THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL
-
I haven't bought the Tug Of War remaster yet, but I surely intend to. There's a YouTube upload of the 2015 mix, and one thing that jumped out at me was a clearly, totally remixed "Be What You See." Is that how it is on the release, or did the uploader just mix in a bootleg version?

I haven't either. I'm just waiting for the prices to drop in line with the earlier remastered albums.

Thank yew. Wish there had been more. But these are inviting. Enticing.

I know the TOW and POP releases are still new, and while I'm a little disappointed in the jumping around chronologically, I am pretty excited about the potential extras in a Flowers In The Dirt deluxe edition. I was just brainstorming what might be included. As for songs that were officially released in that era, besides the 13 track CD, here is what I am thinking: 1. Once Upon A Long Ago (although this might well end up on a Press To Play reissue, assuming that happens eventually - there are also long and extended versions of this - the completist in me wants all officially released tracks included) 2. Back On My Feet (probably goes with the song above since it was on that single. 3. Flying To My Home (from My Brave Face single) 4. The First Stone (#4, 5, and 6 were all on incarnations of the This One single) 5. Good Sign 6. I Wanna Cry 7. This One (Club Lovejoys Mix) (from Figure Of Eight 12" single) 8. Ou Est Le Soleil (I believe there are at least 6 different alternative mixes on various singles) 9. Loveliest Thing (from Figure Of Eight CD single) 10. Mama's Little Girl (although this would probably be on a Wild Life/Red Rose Speedway reissue since it was recorded then) 11. Same Time Next Year (also recorded previously - I think in London Town era) 12. A bunch of live stuff, so it depends if there would be a separate Tripping The Live Fantastic - things like All My Trials, PS Love Me Do, Let 'Em In, C Moon, Mull Of Kintyre, and Strawberry Fields Forever/Help!/Give Peace A Chance 13. Figure Of Eight 7" Remix 14. Party Party Then there is the Return To Pepperland tracks recorded just before this, which has several tracks that would be released a little later: 15. Love Come Tumbling Down (from Beautiful Night CD single) 16. Same Love (from Beautiful Night CD single) Parts of a few others were on the Oobu Joobu tracks on the Flaming Pie singles as well, such as I Love This House, Beautiful Night (Original Version), Love Mix, Squid, and Atlantic Ocean. Are there other possibilities as well? I would imagine there are some cool demos with Elvis Costello that could be included. I just think this has a chance to be a really good reissue if done correctly.
Actually I have a list that I think would be a bit better. It includes all officially released tracks from all the Flowers in the Dirt era stuff...and here it is! 1 ?Flying to My Home? ("My Brave Face" b-side) 2 ?The First Stone? ("This One" b-side) 3 ?Good Sign? ("This One" b-side) 4 ?I Wanna Cry? ("This One" b-side) (could be placed on a СНОВА Б СССР reissue, but honestly I don't see such a reissue happening) 5 ?Figure of Eight? (single version) 6 ?Rough Ride? (single version) ("Figure of Eight" b-side) 7 ?Ou Est Le Soleil? (7? Mix) ("Figure of Eight" b-side) 8 ?The Long and Winding Road? ("Figure of Eight" b-side) 9 ?Loveliest Thing? ("Figure of Eight" b-side) 10 ?Mama?s Little Girl? ("Put it There" b-side) (could be placed on a Red Rose Speedway reissue, but who knows) 11 ?Same Time Next Year? (could be placed on a Back to the Egg reissue, but who knows) 12 ?Party Party? (single, included on two-disc Flowers in the Dirt in Japan) 13 ?P.S. Love Me Do? (studio version, included on two-disc Flowers in the Dirt in Japan) As far as what I'd do with "Once Upon a Long Ago" and "Back On My Feet" I really don't know. They really don't "fit" the Flowers in the Dirt era, but then you do have the Costello co-write on "Back On My Feet", and I don't think they should be split up like the 1993 reissue campaign did. So....I still don't know. Ha! All I know is that as far as this reissue is concerned they should do a multi-disc type thing, with one disc filled with all the b-sides and whatnot and then another disc with unreleased songs from the Flowers in the Dirt era and a few (or all!) of the McCartney/MacManus demos!
-
There are also possibilities from the Elvis Costello sessions that Paul is on 1 So like Candy which was released by EC but the demo version has Paul singing lead 2. Tommy's Coming Home ( still unreleased) 3. 20 Fine Fingers (still unreleased) Sure we're forgetting some! Bob

Added Tug of War & Pipes of Peace to my archive collection this Christmas Just as it always has been, Tug of War is the much better set of the two. I find both the original and the remixed versions of the album included to be pleasing in their own ways but ultimately, I think I actually prefer the remix. Both books included do a stellar job of informing the listener on the making of the album through words, interviews, and plenty of photos. The bonus audio sounds especially great as well. The stand-out for me was the demo for "Wanderlust". I've always felt Paul's vocal was a bit harsh for the song and it isn't at all on the demo. I much prefer the way he sings it in the film in '84. Lastly, the DVD was...well, necessary I guess. The McCartney Years takes care of the music videos and I felt the "making of..." for Take it Away was pretty boring. I would have much preferred footage of Montserrat....OH! Wait! Cue Pipes of Peace Deluxe Anyone know why they saved the footage for THIS DVD instead? My guess is because it otherwise wouldn't have had much else to offer up and the other two discs and book offer far less than Tug of War does, so they shifted it over here to give us a reason to buy this one too! I stand by my feelings for years that Pipes of Peace is done after the first four tracks. It didn't help that the book in this edition had a lot less to say. I'd be quite interested in seeing how these two albums could have been combined into one release in the early 80's. You could drop Tug of War's two clunkers (AKA Stevie Wonder), swap in "Pipes of Peace" and "Say, Say, Say" and use "The Other Me" and "Keep Under Cover" as NICE B-Sides! Okay.....rant/review complete!

Somewhere along the line (I forget which single), but the 'Put it There' version of The Long and Winding Road was included with some FITD related release...I know for a fact that it's the double CD Japanese version of FITD...Also, I've heard a demo for 'This One' that was pretty cool...given the tendency to add demos to this Archive releases, I can't imaged this demo being left off:
Edit***I overlooked your inclusion of The Long and Winding Road ops: -
Heard some work was done on Flowers in December!! Let's hope for a quick turn around
-
I'm hearing rumblings (nothing official) that FITD could come out in April. IF that were to happen (and maybe it won't) then that would indicate to me that Paul has some kind of major new release in the fall... or maybe a live album.

could be, I have heard that he spent some time in the studio in December

add to that, one of his interviews in August or September said that he had a lot of songs built up and needed to spend time in the studio and finish them off
-
To be honest FITD doesn't seem sufficiently old enough to me to be of much interest, even though it is 27 years old and is one of Paul's better albums. I'd much rather have those remaining Wings albums given the deluxe treatment.
-
There is quite a lot of bonus material to choose from though. I think it will be fine
-
Yes, I think it's an album that Paul is proud of, and it's the album that set him on the path of getting consistently good reviews again, and it's associated with a successful world tour, and so on. This is why I think Flaming Pie will be the next one after this, since a) there was so much positive feeling about it, coming right after the Anthology project, and b) it's the only post-'80s Capitol album that his current label has not re-released in any way. I'm guessing they'll circle back to Wild Life/RRS and London Town/BTTE after that.
-
I would love Flaming Pie to be coming. One of my favorite albums. But I wish he'd stop the one album release...keep going at least 2 at a time! And I DEFINITELY want the rest of the Wings albums finished!

Yes twice yearly, in chronological order.
