Interesting article from yesterday: Paul McCartney's 30 best post-Beatles singles http://www.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/music/2014/08/12/best-paul-mccartney-singles-solo-wings/13918013/
wow...very surprising to read this! Good on them!
Wow, I'm so impressed with the songs that made it to this list!! It's very hopeful that things start to trend like this! Audi I'm in agreement with you on the English Tea! Don't understand why anyone has a problem with that one!? Anyway thanks, it was great to see that great list of songs in print!

Good list, but the problem is that most of Paul's best post-Beatles tracks were never singles. But then, that's the way it is with most artists.
True - and back in the day (at least 'my day' in the 70's), these non hit songs were like hidden treasures that felt very much like our own find. I recall thinking I had Billy Joel's Scene's from an Italian Restaurant all to myself for a number of years after The Stranger was released...that kind of thing doesn't happen anymore since it's all out there on the internet these days....

About Little Lamb Dragonfly... who sings in the intro? (before the la-la-la-la...)... is Paul or Denny?

Sounds like Paul to me, with Linda in the background harmonizing.

This is a very appropriate thread for me. Recently I bought a Tablet and have been downloading Macca songs through the MP3 Player Pro. I wanted to focus on Post Beatles Paul and all the songs I had not listened to in a long time. Obviously, they're not played on the radio. The Macca library was quite deep so it was great to hear these songs. Here's just a few songs that to my ears have aged very well. *Souvenir - Not the most popular song when Flaming Pie first came out, but I love Paul's Soul voice and the melody. I think if a young soul singer with the right voice covered this song, it could be a massive hit. Combines soul and rock. *Daytime Nightime Suffering - One of Paul's great B-Sides. He should have put this on Back to the Egg. Great thing about Paul diversity is this is a hard song to define. What genre is it? Sounds different than anything else but is great on its own *I'm Carrying -- So beautiful...one of the songs from Londontown that George Harrison described as one of his favorite Paul songs. Beautiful guitar *Little Willow -- One of my all time Paul solo songs...in my estimation, right up there with Paul's greatest Beatle songs. Boy, did Flaming Pie have some great songs. For anyone who has lost someone, the line "always came too soon" always gets to me *Maybe Baby -- Obviously a Buddy Holly cover and I first heard it on U-Tube. It was on a movie sound track (the actor in the movie had a big TV medical show)..can't think of his name. Love Paul and Jeff Lynn's take on this cover that is decidedly faster than the original. *Mistress and Maid -- Paul and Elvis Costello's song on Off the Ground. I was surprised how great it sound after not hearing it in a long time. *My Soul -- Paul teamed with Nitin Sawhney (London Undersound) CD Love the melody and Paul's older voice works really well. Love the lyrics..."My soul, Your Heart, Two Worlds Apart etc. *Single Pigeon -- Always loved this piano one from Red Rose Speedway * Lovers That Never Were -- Another great Paul/Elvis one from Off the Ground *This Loving Game - I woke up the other morning with this song in my head. Great melody from the Jenny Wren EP I'll come back with more...There are so many Hidden Gems from his Post Beatles' Career

Coming up with the most underrated song might take some long thought, but it has always puzzled me that a lot of fans dislike "English Tea" and "Get It." Love 'em.
Love them both. In fact, I used Get It years ago for I video I made for WWF. And in English Tea music and lyrics fit perfectly together... I was in heaven for a moment when I saw it live in 2005.

I'm happy to see This One on the list of his 30 Best Post Beatles songs. I've loved that song since the first time I heard it.

Some songs are just too good for radio.
__________________________________________________________________ Great point, Audi. This List is another example of how great of a Post Beatles' Catalogue Macca has. It is a good list and I realize that the author based it only on songs that did come out as singles. But when you include all of Paul's Solo and Wings songs, I'm not sure that most of them would be on my personal top 30. Surely, Maybe I'm Amazed, Band of the Run and Live and Let Die are givens on practically everyone's list but after that, I suspect there would be serious debate putting together a Top 30 All time list. And as we know there is no right or wrong answer. It is all subjective because Mr. Mccartney is such a gifted songwriter. As for my Top 30 (and I realize how difficult picking the best 30 would be) here is a partial list of songs that would have to be in my Top 30 that are NOT on this "singles" list. Beautiful Night Calico Skies Early Days Ever Present Days Every Night Golden Earth Girl Hope of Deliverence House of Wax I'm Carrying Little Willow Little Lamb Dragonfly Magneto and Titanium Man Mull of Kintyre 1985 Put It There Queenie Eye Somedays Take It Away Too Much Rain Tug of War Wanderlust

Meant to say "Ever Present Past" in my list above.

Well, is not exactly a top 30 of underrated songs. For some reason I changed the theme of conversation is my top 30 of Paul's songs, counting underrated and overrated songs
-
My list... -Calico Skies -Vanilla Sky -Ever Present Past -English Tea -Every Night -Save Us -I Can Bet -Only Mama Knows -Heather -Freedom -Mull of Kintyre -Hope of Deliverance -Rubber Soul13

Most of the songs I would have chosen as underrated have all been mentioned except for one of MY favorites.... "Waterfalls" I think it is beautiful, and I never get tired of hearing it.
-
Ooh, and of course, Sing the Changes!
-
Not sure how underrated some of these are but here's my non-hits favourites early 70s to early 80s: Junk Monkberry Moon Delight Eat at Home Dear Boy Heart of the Country The Back Seat of My Car Wild Life Some People Never Know Tomorrow Big Barn Bed Bluebird Love in Song Magneto and Titanium Man London Town Girls' School Don't Let it Bring You Down Girlfriend Getting Closer On the Way Nobody Knows Summers Day Song One of These Days Tug of War

^ Great list!

I think Spirits of Ancient Egypt is a great song. It has a nice sound to it and always seem to manage to get stuck in my head.
