BJ, YouTube wasn't created until 2005, so no "hits" until then! P.S. I admire your passion on this subject, but I'm afraid you're bordering on beating a dead horse, my friend.
_________________________________________________________ Funny thing, I was thinking the same thing last night. I've made my points so I'm going to give it a rest for a while. I'm just going to wait and see what he plays in Miami. Thanks for the correction about YouTube. Just think however of the # of hits of the very good to great solo songs (that Paul has ignored) would have received from 2005 on. My only point is that it might have created a different (and better!) perception of Paul's music after Wings. He certainly couldn't depend on any radio airplay on his great songs after No More Lonely Nights.
We both have been beating a dead horse for a long time my friend. I am ready to admit defeat - lol.
__________________________________________________ Thanks Yankeefan. You're right...we've been frustrated for a long time. Turk Thrust really summed it all up a few posts back saying "there are some artists from Paul's era who want to challenge their audience and others who want to play the crowd pleasers. Paul is clearly in the latter category". You and I have repeatedly argued that because of Paul's unique position, he could have done "both" throughout his tours since 2002 by just playing 3-4 different and great solo songs each year/tour. Because Paul's Solo career (Post 1980) has consistently been maligned by many (unjustly I might add) it does baffle me. While I'm going to drop the subject here (I'm sure some are pleased) I'm actually very excited because I will be attending a 4 Day Beatles' Festival (along with a couple other Boardies) just outside of Louisville KY in about 2 weeks (Abbey Road on the River). They have all kinds of performers (some known, some unknown) who will be playing all facets of the Beatles' as a group and as individuals. Hopefully one or two will be specializing in Solo Paul and I can hear some great Paul songs Post 1980. I will report back in the "Band on the Run Section" with highlights.
BJ, AROTR is 5 days long! I can't wait! Not sure if there will be much solo Paul since Wingsbanned will not be there this year. Laurence Juber and The Cryers with Steve Holley should break out some Wings stuff I hope! Here's the lineup: http://www.arotr.com/site/?page_id=5498 Oh, and an old boardie wanted me to mention that Stevie Nicks is doing the setlist that her solo fans have long been waiting for. She's doing songs they thought she'd never do and the fans are loving it. Too bad Paul can't/won't follow suit.

Stevie Nicks solo tours were never "Fleetwood Mac" dominated and I am glad she is doing "deep" cuts for her fans. I am sure she loves doing these solo tours because it gives her the freedom to do whatever music she wants, I love her music.
I can neither confirm nor deny.
Gotcha. If you do ever "talk" with him, tell him I said hi and I hope all is well with him.

_______________________________________________________ Yankeefan, Yes I did see them on You Tube playing the whole Ram album and they were great. Can you imagine if they did about 15-20 songs from Tug of War, Flowers in the Dirt, Flaming Pie, Chaos & Creation, MAF etc. It could be one hell of a concert.

BJ, It said they did that concert as tribute to his 70th birthday, would be neat if they did something for his 75th. Out of the albums you mentioned, which one would you pick for them to do the entire album. Tough call for me, thinking FITD or MAF would be awesome. Bet they would just do killer version of "House Of Wax".

_______________________________________________ I would probably prefer a mix of the best tracks of all the albums because in combination there are so many great songs they could do and "bill" it as Paul Solo but if I had to pick one album for them to do, I would also pick MAF. Again, I think the variety of music from MAF would be great as a live performance. How about the "loose" medley before House of Wax followed by "End of the End". Then you would have Only Mama Knows, You Tell Me, Mr Bellamy, Ever Present Past, See Your Sunshine etc. And then they could add the bonus track Why So Blue. O'h yes, I would be there if I was close enough.

I heard during the (open field) soundcheck in Dublin in 2010 he already couldn't sing it any more, but since it's 7 years later and he's still singing 'Maybe I'm Amazed'... just imagine being so legendary you can do a concert without doing 'Penny Lane', not part of a tour since 2005 !!! If anyone else would write a song like that it would be played twice, and a third time as a reprise.
-
Also, how can 'Another Girl' be not a staple for a few years... Such a highlight. Not even a rotation song. Ok, I will leave now.

I wouldn't call it a staple...in fact, it got a really underwhelming reaction in Charlottesville when it was played during the encore. Definitely NOT an encore song. It got a huge reaction in Philly when earlier in the set and Paul announced it had never been played on US soil.

No, this was all about 'Penny Lane'.

Weird, I thought it worked amazingly well, in both early set and encore. Uptempo early Beatles rock always works in his set for me.

It's the bottom of the barrel and it's Ringo's lead, regardless of who wrote it. It's like when Paul does "Yellow Submarine". It's just weird...especially since Ringo is still actively touring just as much (and sometimes more) than Paul and has a limited selection of material...and Paul could play almost ANYTHING else from that era, or that year, or even that album.

It's a familiar early Beatles tune, primarily written by McCartney, I don't have a problem with that at all. And "bottom of the barrel" Beatles material is his thing now. One of the reasons why the Out There wasn't my favourite tour at all: 'All Together Now' AND 'Mr. Kite' AND 'Lovely Rita' and the (then) 5th year with 'Ob-La-Di'? My point, 4 years of 'Mr. Kite' is just too much, but a leg with an early Beatles tune like this added, no problem.

It's familiar as a song Ringo sang while he shook his head and pounding at the skins OR as the first single from that other band from England, recently making waves around here All four of the songs you mentioned received a great deal of excitement when they were debuted around here and were all greatly received live every time I heard them. Plus, "Lovely Rita" is NOT a bottom of the barrel Beatles song...this board had been begging for that one at least since I joined and probably way before.

We saw different gigs. And what is 'A Hard Day's Night' or 'Eight Days A Week' then? McCartney wrote it, he plays it, it's a fun song, no harm done. Would love to hear it, just like 'One After 909' or 'Your Mother Should Know'. No, those don't get a proper outing and we are stuck on 'Got To Get You Into My Life' (great song, shouldn't have been part of all EU gigs in recent years). From all current songs which should've been cut ages ago I simply don't see why a recent addition like this gets criticism. I would understand it if it get's stuck for years, with more songs in that category. But at this moment, a nice addition, that's all. The fact that it "replaced" 'Here, There & Everywhere', now THAT is a problem...

I'm not going to simply praise Paul because he put a new song in the show. That's the easy part. It has to be one worth playing and be played well. Now, this is all in the eye of the beholder as well.

Do you think he could still sing Fixing A Hole or Getting Better? Please get rid of Mr. Kite! If he wants to do a John song, do Good Morning, Good Morning! He just really needs to do something from Sgt. Pepper (besides the title song and reprise that he's done before) in honor of the 50th anniversary!

Having seen Paul in Tokyo, I would say that I Wanna Be Your Man was a good choice and one that suited Paul's current voice. I don't hear too much wrong with this version and a fun 2 minutes:
