On top of that, two words: Tony. Bennett.

Or Cleo Lane or Pavarotti...or.... Tony Bennett...now THERE'S a cocaine addiction. Bennett - not much chop. Overrated. Became cool with the youngsters thanks to MTV. Matt Monro, Andy Williams, Al Martino and a heap of singers I rate above that hack. Cue the "Sinatra said he was..." line.

Listen to Marianne Faithfull. She's got the smokey voice and it's GREAT. Generalization is never good. Anti-smokers hate all smoke filled. One could say that they did not hear the voice of just smoke. There are plenty of great smokey voices.

Don't blame age. Blame cigarettes and pot.

Nup. I put it down to age. 70 is NOT the new 40.

Then why did Tina Turner, who was nearly 70 the year her comeback tour ended in 2009, sound remarkably, vocally fit after an eight-year hiatus from touring?

For the same reason Keith, Brian, Elton, Rod, Dylan, Plant and so many others (and heaps from the 70's do not.) Luck of the draw (nature) along with lifestyle (self inflicted) Actually come to think of it Tina's voice was always pretty raspy and weathered So I'd be hard pressed to notice if it was in decline.

You have not been listenin', my friend. The woman's got tremendous pipes. The rasp is only one dynamic of a fantastic vocal-range.

I'll add that Rod Stewart and Robert Plant have been sounding like crap for a good 20 years now.

I think we listen to different things when we hear singers. You are more concerned about a crystal clear voice than I am. Smoothness. Even though this will also be a generalization. I still love the sound of Bob Dylan and buy every new record while Rod Stewart I stopped listening to years ago. Bob makes art, Rod makes 'product'. Of veteran female voices I'd rather listen to Marianne Faithfull now than Tina Turner. I just love the soul of her voice, and her "damaged" voice captures so much emotion, it sends shivers up my spine, she's one of my favorite singers ever, while Turner to me is more like an artist, a vocalist and energetic performer. As Madonna, It's showbiz, one must keep in shape, otherwise the audience leave. Paul McCartney is perhaps a mixture of this. Commercial one moment, but "Early Days" the next.

In Philadelphia, everyone bowed after "Hey Jude". The stage cleared, lights down...lights up and everyone came back with flags. Then everyone except Paul and Wix left for "Yesterday". In Charlottesville, everyone bowed after "Hey Jude". The stage cleared, lights down...lights up and everyone came back with flags then right into "Another Girl".

Thanks. He's been experimenting quite a bit with the placement of some songs in the setlist this year.

No problem! He has been playing around a bit recently. I hoep that means he's itching for a new tour soon... Comparing the PA & VA sets, I think I preferred the Philly set. VA was missing Listen To What The Man Said, but it was nice to hear One After 909 for the first time. I also think Another Girl works better as the 3rd song than in the encore. It's really not THAT popular.

I thought that was strange too. I have noticed from my experiences, that the smaller venues tend to be more strict, and the big-city venues are much more lax. Strange, you would think it would be the other way around! For instance, in Columbus in 2005, OSU's arena was VERY strict upon entry.. Granted, that was 10 years ago.. they were also heavily forceful on the no-picture policy too. I will never forget being on my ancient flip phone, snapping a pic, and getting screamed at by security! It was quite embarrassing. Funny, now. Can't even imagine how poor the quality of those photos would have been!

Anyone know the guy who was pulled up on stage for a photo with Paul? I think his name is Dave. With 10o shows thought i might find him here somewhere. Susan H Smith finally got "signed". She got her tattoo done right away. Congrats to both!

Dave is a big fan who I've met and hung out with at quite a few concerts. At the Jacksonville concert or sound check Paul read his sign which said he was at his 90 something concert. When Paul read his 100th show sign at sound check I told him he would be going up on stage, he had his doubts. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy! Also very happy for Susan. She was still enjoying her trip on stage and new tattoo in Columbia. We had a great time with her and the rest of the FOTR crew!
