What made you join?

Curious, what made you join this forum and when? I joined in 2005 - the very next day after seeing Paul live for the second time in DC. I wanted to relive that night over and over and came here to share my experiences with others and hear more about theirs. Been coming here off and on ever since and always enjoy the discussions. Coincidentally I also joined on what would've been John Lennon's 75th birthday. Kinda cool.

Just wanted to chat with like minded Beatles fans like myself. And also to chat with Paul fans also since Im a fan of his. I also joined to because this forum is very very active unlike other Beatle forums I've been on in the past.

I joined back in '09, I think. a friend had sent me a link to a strange PID forum and it weirded me out. it was crazy. THere were links on it to other forums including this one and I first came to read it just to clear my head with some Paul Positive postings. Stuff that at least wasn't nothing but the ranting of lunatics who claimed that Paul and Brian were murdered together in France by the Rolling Stones who were thwarted when the Beatles continued and girls claiming to psychically contact Dead Paul and find his grave on a map where they looked at the area with Google Earth. I read the forum for a few days before I decided to join it and then I jumped right in. and right now, this is the only forum attached to a Beatle's official web page. John never had one and George's is gone. I heard Ringo had one once but it dissappeared too back before my time. I love this forum. Even the downs as well as the ups.

I joined in 2002 initially, because I wanted to talk about Macca and good music. It's been an interesting journey. I've made a couple of close real-life friends here and learned a lot about the 'online world' and dynamics, as it was the first message board I signed up on. I'd just finished Uni in 2002 and lots has happened since. Lots has also stayed the same, including my love of music. Cheers, VM

I joined in 2006 not long after my Mom passed away, Paul had put out the album Memory Almost Full, I needed those songs to get threw...and I did, I sang sang sang all the songs, memorized every word...especially the one 'That Was Me'.... his screaming is awesome on that one, at least to me....I didnt get to go to the Albany Show, but I would have liked to hear a few songs off that album...

I joined in 2007, the year that I crushed my foot and was in intense pain for 4 years. This forum made me forget the pain and I really enjoyed the people and learning more about the music. I couldn't walk for about a year, so this was a very enjoyable way to spend all my free time.... just listening to music for hours. I remember I was really into Rushes and Chaos and Creation and Memory Almost Full. Great memories through a difficult time! I have met many great people, some lifelong friends and traveled quite a bit, to see Paul shows and Paul McCartney like minded friends. A Paul McCartney person, is really the best kind of friend!!

Although my "Joined" date is listed as March 2002 I'm quite sure I joined a month earlier. Paul performed "Freedom" at Super Bowl XXXVI (36, Patriots beat the Rams) and afterwards he said that he would be going on tour for the first time in 9 years. Later that week I went and bought the "Driving Rain" cd and noticed his website was on it. So I decided to check it out, discovered this forum where people were talking about the long awaited tour and decided to register. This forum was quite different when I first joined. I think it was called the "Wingspan" forum which had started in 2001 when Paul released his Wingspan greatest hits cds. The amount of traffic that Paul's announcement of the 'Driving USA' tour generated probably made the 'Wingspan' forum crash several times. At one point everyone's "Joined" date was reset to March 20/21, 2002 and eventually the forum switched to how it is today. Here's what it used to look like (none of the links work http://web.archive.org/web/20020327145201/http://mccartney.artscience.net/vbb/ The activity in those early forum days was amazing. You would post in one thread and before you knew it there ten other threads that had bumped ahead of the one you had just posted in. You'd be involved in so many topics it was tough to keep up with things. Amazing stuff and long lasting friendships developed. The number of political arguments that took place back then were incredible and often got quite vicious. I'd sometimes lurk and read what was going on in the political threads but never posted in them because of how heated things would get. I always felt bad for the mods who had to deal with it all. Sometime around 2006 a huge argument tore this forum apart: A few board members felt the mods displayed favoritism towards/against a few. Not 100% positive but I think the claims were politically based. Anyways, those who felt slighted left to form their own McCartney board called "Strawberry Fields". I'm sure they had their reasons for leaving but I decided to remain here mainly because this was the "official" Paul forum... and because I didn't care for a few of those who led the revolt to leave. I did miss a few who decided to leave - especially those who love to talk about my other favorite subject, international football/soccer - but not to the point where I felt the need to join the new forum. I don't even know if the "Strawberry Fields" forum is still around. I trust others will do a better job of explaining what exactly "the revolt of '06" was all about. I rarely post in this forum anymore. If I do it's usually in a sports-related thread, mainly football/soccer.

You explained it so well, Unclesox. The speed of posts and discussion was more like a chat room at times; like conversations going on in real-time. That was pre-Facebook et al so, to me, it was quite interesting. Being a mod between 2004 - 2005 was also an experience, to say the least. I was a student and had some time on my hands. But - quite simply - starting to work full-time, I didn't think it was right to keep the 'mod' status and never be around throughout the day. Still I have made some friendships here too. As for Strawberry Fields, yep, that's around but on Facebook. It's a pleasant group and there's lots of music discusssion and polls going on there. I didn't initially join the SF forum proper as I thought some of the issues were, well, not something I wanted to get involved in. Sometimes I miss the old Maccaboard days, and friends who no longer post here much. Cheers.

While working on my doctorate, I was looking at message boards in the hope of finding points of view I would not otherwise hear in my community. This was back when message boards were popular. I looked at a few political sites, all of which seemed to be populated with sociopaths. This one had people talking about Paul McCartney and The Beatles. It was an easy choice. Sadly, most of the people with whom I most associated no longer visit this site.

I joined in early 2000's when I found the site but lost my password immediately. Years later I rejoined. I've been at PaulMcCartney.com to check out news and read stuff at least once a week for years.
