The ..2012.... Political thread

Since our current president seems to have been elected by low-information voters, it seems like a good idea to bring forward as much factual information as possible so that we(not me-I voted Gore ) won't make the same mistake again. Here is Obamas Emergency Economic Plan delivered in an address today in Florida. http://www.scribd.com/doc/4385783/Barack-Obamas-Emergency-Economic-Plan

Almost all politicians are like the muffin co: "Thomas' Promises" ~ but once in office they fail to deliver the goods.

Some of us know that we will find peace by peace...and some of us think that we will find peace by war!

I like that SurSteven Things are looking very good for Obama and barring some huge unforseen event I think he will be elected, I also think he will have some major coattails which will help him to implement his policies. I think he will be a transformation leader like FDR, because the times demand it and he has the leadership ability to carry it through. Enough people are waking up to realize that there is no way we can solve our major problems by continuing with the same policies as those policies are what got us into this mess in the first place. Peace

Whoever wins this election, I'll just be very happy when George W. Bush is no longer president. I very much doubt either Obama or McCain could do a worse job than Bush has done. I'm an Obama supporter, but I can live with McCain. I think Obama would be better on foreign policy, while McCain would be better on the economy. In general.

War is still not healthy for children and other living things. The campaigning is getting worse & worse.

Yep, McCain is going very negative. He said he was not going to do that. He doesn't really talk about issues so, I guess that's all he has. Here are articles about how negative McCain has become:

I agree with you about foreign policy, but I would love to hear about how you think McCain would be better on the economy?

Shit, Mccain admited himself, that he wasn't much on economics. This should be 'a layup.' There is no way a Republican gets in the white house... no matter who the opponent was/is. The biggest obstacle facing Obama, is getting his supporters to actually vote.
-
Looking at a snap shot of McCain and Obama's record show that their vote is "Not voted or present" nearly 50% of the votes --- Does this mean that if they become President of the US -- that they will be "present" with no substance *at least half the time ** the less they vote on ..... the better for all

Here is McCain trying to answer a question in Panama City, Florida on August 1. This is sad and dangerous

Republicans all over the earth are usually the biggest hometeam religion and nation supporters. The only trouble is! Is that we have 1,000 religions and 100 nations!

Yes, but we also have dozens of different political parties but basically only 3 when it comes to the top office holders Democrat Republican Independent

Let's face it - there hasn't been any really good presidents in decades.

I know what you mean--usually voting seems to be a choice for the lesser of two evils, rather than for someone you're actually rooting for.

There is a huge difference in the philosophies of the democratic and republican party and that is basically what the election is about. It's an economic distinction.

The republican party is for privatization and deregulation that has led to the mortgage/housing crisis. Led to the private war contractors in Iraq that have demoralized our military by making more money and having no constraints. And led to the situation in our health care system which is controlled by the insurance companies, who are making health decisions based on their bottom line. Their low tax policy toward the very rich has left the middle class with the burden of paying for basic services and a very expensive war which they do not want. Our states are in such bad financial shape they are having to greatly reduce services. That is basically what the election is about. McCain will continue with the republican philosophy which has broken the back of our economy. Obama is for smart regulation of the mortgage/housing business. And lessoning the tax burden on the middle class and seniors etc. He's for getting us out of Iraq and using the money from the war to create jobs to rebuild our infrastructure. And more Basically that's what it's about: continuing the policies of privatization and deregulation which has been a failure or making the necessary changes to get our economy back on track. The changes can not happen with the repubs continuing the same economic policies. The current state of the economy has shown the failure of their policies.

perhaps some clairification for balance?? the status of the health care system is the result of both the democrats & republicans; Deregulation is not due to the Bush administration but the Reagan administration in the 1980s; Part of the real estate issue belongs not only to the banks/mortgage companies but also to those individuals that borrowed more than they should have. Obama is not a reformer as alledged in the media....neither is McCain. The US government does not "create jobs" as such.... Clinton, as president, left the office with a surplus and worked with a republican congress (not a democrat congress). Currently the polls read: 44% for Obama and 44% for McCain...neither has a mandate. Bush didn't have one, neither did Clinton. As I said 20 pages ago , Obama will not get anything done even if elected as long as the senate doesn't have a super majority. btw, Germany doesn't have any electoral college votes
