Former Secretary Of State Gen. Colin Powell Endorses Obama For President As of about 5 minutes ago on "NBC's Meet The Press" Gen. Colin Powell has endorsed Obama For President! Here is the link to the article on his decision: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27265369/ I heard an interesting bit of information this morning. Sen. Obama raised a record breaking $150 million in September. This is more than John Kerry and George W. Bush put together spent on their 2004 campaigns and this is more than President Clinton spent in 1992! As a caution Sen. Obama is taking nothing for granted and is urging voters to not be complacent. Go to the polls and vote. We need the "Change" Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden are offering. If pro-Obama voters stay home on election day because they think his victory is a done deal we just may end up with a McCain victory and that is outright scary. I hope that Gen. Powell's decision to endorse Obama will help undecideds and Independents make the choice to go to the polls and vote for Sen. Obama.

If you would like to calculate your tax savings under an Obama administration click on: http://www.barackobama.com/index.php then click Obama/Biden tax calculator There is a cool calculator there and it's fast and easy to find out just how much you will save
A single person making $20k or $30k gets a $500 tax cut. That's wrong because $20k and $30k incomes pays no federal income tax. Obama should tell the truth that he's taking money from one person and giving it to another. The government will be cutting checks to people who don't pay taxes. $50 to $75k gets $500, while $75 to $100k gets $250. WOW, an extra 5 or 10 dollars in your weekly pay. $100 to $150k gets nothing. $150 to 200k gets $34. That's an extra 79 cents a week. $150 to 250k gets no tax cut. When Joe the plumber confronted him about paying higher taxes because he wants to buy the business where he works Obama assured him he's gonna cut capital gains taxes on small businesses. That's worth nothing to Joe unless he sells his business. Joe the plumber will make up what the government steals from him by cutting wages, laying off people, and/or raising prices. So when the government confiscates his money to give to people who pay no taxes there are several painless ways he can recoup his costs. And all of them will hurt customers and workers. When big companies face higher corporate taxes, we pay the second highest in the world, the make up the cost by laying off people and demand that fewer people do mo work. If he gets elected, and I think he will, he should try to become the best president in history. That's what I hope he does. He can go back on his tax cutting promises because the economy is getting worse and history has shown lowering tax rates increase tax revenue and creates jobs that grows the economy.
I'm all for corporations paying no income taxes so that it's employess can be given raises. They in turn will pay more taxes. And the cost of goods & services will drop - but the consumer spending will in turn rise. Along with the rise in spending includes a rise in sale tax. Everyone benefits with a smaller government, less taxes to be paid - more money available for individual & family needs.
According to the IRS: 2007 Federal Tax Rate Schedules Note: These tax rate schedules are provided so that you can compute your federal estimated income tax for 2007. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Schedule X ? Single If taxable income is over-- But not over-- The tax is: $0 $7,825 10% of the amount over $0 $7,825 $31,850 $782.50 plus 15% of the amount over 7,825 That is, if you make $20-30K, you do pay federal taxes. btw, companies are legal entities and as such are regarded as the same as individuals....if individuals pay income taxes so do companies. It is true that US companies pay higher corporate taxes than do other countries. Having said that, it is difficult for me to reconcile why the US should try to compete with lesser developed countries by copying their tax policies.

I'll bet the media and its readers know more about "Joe the Plumber" than Barack Obama Just goes to show you what they can do if they put their minds to it -- and what they refuse to do if they put their minds to it ...
Looks like Joe a fibber. He never made 250 in his life. Why do I get the feeling the IRS is going to want to talk to Joe pretty soon. :

Don't get cocky. It ain't over 'til it's over! Obama and his team are smart enough to realize that and they'll keep campaigning hard up through the last minute. Two weeks is a long time in politics and you never know what could happen.

Regarding taxes on large companies...think about it. Let's say a large company (company number one) makes an item like a bolt that they sell to other manufacturing companies. This large company which makes the bolt has it's taxes raised. They pass that tax increase onto the cost of their bolt. Company number two - a manufacturing company that needs this bolt to create a product that they sell to the general public now has their supplies increased (from company number one) and most likely their own taxes as well. To cover the loss, the manufacturing company in turn passes this increase onto the consumer. If they can't pass the higher cost onto the consumer and remain competitive, that's when layoffs occur in order to recoup the loss. Your taxes may go down but your cost of living has gone up! From what I've read, Obama's tax plan to small businesses is a $3,000 dollar hiring incentive. No business is going to hire someone for a $3,000 dollar incentive when the average cost of just a blue collar worker in the States is around $40,000 to $50,000. Hiring new employees is the last thing on a business owners mind when their cost of goods and or taxes are substantially increased. Higher taxes are fine on companies as long as you as the consumer don't have buy goods or services.

CNN does a Fact Check on Obamas Tax Plan & small business. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/09/fact-check-obama-tax-plan-and-small-businesses/ As for large business we are now living through the results of extreme advantages for large business including very low tax rates and low regulation. How has that turned out?

Thanks for "getting it!" - Nobody does anything for a tax incentive. It's like saying to borrow more money for a home because you can "write it off your taxes" - what you write off is nothing compared to actually just having cash. No disputing that tax is basically redistributing money, albeit the government takes your $1, spends .40 of it hiring people to figure out what to do with it, another .40 in government secrets noone hears about and sends .20 from your $1 to where it is "best used" I prefer to determine myself where the $1 I earn is best used. I prefer McCain's approach to lesser government, lesser taxes, attract companies to invest in America (no more 35% tax rate, - why do you think all the companies are in Ireland and Singapore?) and increase our overall GDP. Just taxing these companies keeps they from investing their capital here, offshores jobs and what's left is an increase in our consumer prices. Couple that onto the idea that the dollar continues deflating. Please don't vote for Obama for your "$700 tax credit" - if that amount significantly changes your "opportunity", you are missing point!

And here is text taken from Obamas speech today in Tampa, Florida And let me be crystal clear: If you make less than a quarter of a million dollars a year ? which includes 98% of small business owners ? you won't see your taxes increase one single dime. Not your payroll taxes, not your income taxes, not your capital gains taxes ? nothing. That is my commitment to you. To create more American jobs, I've proposed a tax credit for each new employee that companies hire here in the United States over the next two years. And I'll stop giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas and invest in companies that create good jobs right here in Florida. I'll help small businesses get back on their feet by eliminating capital gains taxes and giving them emergency loans to keep their doors open and hire workers. And I will create a Jobs and Growth fund to help states and local governments save one million jobs and pay for health care and education without having to raise your taxes. These are the steps that we must take ? right now ? to start getting our economy back on track. But we also need a new set of priorities to grow our economy and create jobs over the long-term.

It's worse that the "Read My Lips - No New Taxes" - what Obama proposes, he can't do without increasing taxes. Guess what happens when all of those who make >$250k a year and the companies that employ all those that make <$250k a year end up paying for the government to run.... they will take their business elsewhere! Nice one Obama! Bottom line- this guy is just trying to win an election. He doesn't have the experience to think through the consequence of what he says. That's why he flipped on Iraq/Afghanstan, taking public Financing etc.. he says one thing, then when he sees the consequence, he changes direction. Is that the leadership we need? The Obama campaign song should be "Taxman" !

It doesn't matter what either of them say, once they get into the White House, they will be singing the same song and it won't sound like anything either of them are saying now.

I agree completely. The trouble is people are not thinking about it and/or they really don't care

Can't lose: Obama backs Rays, Phillies By KENNETH P. VOGEL & CARRIE BUDOFF BROWN | 10/20/08 1:51 PM EDT Barack Obama, campaigning in the key swing state of Florida, is seeking to capitalize on the excitement over the World Series-bound Tampa Bay Rays, telling a Tampa crowd he was ?showing some love for the Rays,? several members of which joined him onstage. Only problem? Obama, a self-avowed Chicago White Sox fan, declared his allegiance earlier this month for the Rays? National League opponent in baseball?s championship, the Philadelphia Phillies. On Oct. 11, Obama told a crowd in the City of Brotherly Love ? the biggest city on the key swing state of Pennsylvania: ?My White Sox are gone, so I?ll go ahead and root for the Phillies now.? Yet in Tampa Monday afternoon, where he was introduced by Rays? players Fernando Perez and David Price, Obama also seemed to express support for the Rays, telling the crowd that he had just met with several members of the team backstage. "I have said from the beginning that I'm a unity candidate, bringing people together. So when you see a White Sox fan showing some love for the Rays and the Rays showing some love back, you know we're onto something here,? Obama said. complete article with pictures & video: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14750.html

Except that your supplies and or goods to operate your company are going way up which are supplied by large manufacturing companies anything from paper clips and paper products to food to any manufactured good you need to run your business large or small. If your operating costs go up so does the price of the product or service you provide in order to stay in business and to pay your overhead.
To create more American jobs, I've proposed a tax credit for each new employee that companies hire here in the United States over the next two years.
His tax credit is $3,000 per employee. Talk to any accountant and they will tell you the actual cost of hiring employees especially in blue collar industries is $40,000 - $50,000. $3,000 does not make a dent.
I'll help small businesses get back on their feet by eliminating capital gains taxes and giving them emergency loans to keep their doors open and hire workers. And I will create a Jobs and Growth fund to help states and local governments save one million jobs and pay for health care and education without having to raise your taxes.
Pay for health care for who? Everyone? Where is the money going to come from if he does not get it from taxes. He states without raising taxes. Is he going to print the money? Emergency Loans from the government? Great another government loan program the tax payers get to pay if the company defaults. Wonderful! Personally I think who we need to eliminate are "Politicians"!
