Regarding taxes on large companies...think about it. Let's say a large company (company number one) makes an item like a bolt that they sell to other manufacturing companies. The majority of "manufacturing" is no longer done in the US. This large company which makes the bolt has it's taxes raised. They pass that tax increase onto the cost of their bolt. Large companies making bolts no longer operate in the US. Company number two - a manufacturing company that needs this bolt to create a product that they sell to the general public now has their supplies increased (from company number one) and most likely their own taxes as well. To cover the loss, the manufacturing company in turn passes this increase onto the consumer. If they can't pass the higher cost onto the consumer and remain competitive, that's when layoffs occur in order to recoup the loss. Basic manufacturing is not done in the US....it is done in lower cost countries.....perhaps you haven't been paying attention over the past number of years?? Your taxes may go down but your cost of living has gone up! From what I've read, Obama's tax plan to small businesses is a $3,000 dollar hiring incentive. No business is going to hire someone for a $3,000 dollar incentive when the average cost of just a blue collar worker in the States is around $40,000 to $50,000. Depends on what you term "blue collar" and what part of the country you're in. Hiring new employees is the last thing on a business owners mind when their cost of goods and or taxes are substantially increased. or when their availability to gain access to credit is impended... Higher taxes are fine on companies as long as you as the consumer don't have buy goods or services.
...which is why manufacturing is no longer done here sparky.

And here is text taken from Obamas speech today in Tampa, Florida And let me be crystal clear: If you make less than a quarter of a million dollars a year ? which includes 98% of small business owners ? you won't see your taxes increase one single dime. Not your payroll taxes, not your income taxes, not your capital gains taxes ? nothing. That is my commitment to you.
Except that your supplies and or goods to operate your company are going way up which are supplied by large manufacturing companies anything from paper clips and paper products to food to any manufactured good you need to run your business large or small. If your operating costs go up so does the price of the product or service you provide in order to stay in business and to pay your overhead. You seem to not know?? that goods are not solely obtained here in the US...also the majority of "goods" are no longer manufacturered here.
To create more American jobs, I've proposed a tax credit for each new employee that companies hire here in the United States over the next two years.
His tax credit is $3,000 per employee. Talk to any accountant and they will tell you the actual cost of hiring employees especially in blue collar industries is $40,000 - $50,000. $3,000 does not make a dent. One more time......it depends where you are in the US. $40-50K is like $100K in Arkansas.
I'll help small businesses get back on their feet by eliminating capital gains taxes and giving them emergency loans to keep their doors open and hire workers. And I will create a Jobs and Growth fund to help states and local governments save one million jobs and pay for health care and education without having to raise your taxes.
Pay for health care for who? Everyone? Where is the money going to come from if he does not get it from taxes. He states without raising taxes. Is he going to print the money? Wake up and smell the coffee......Japan, China, et al Emergency Loans from the government? Great another government loan program the tax payers get to pay if the company defaults. Wonderful! Defaults are a fact of life with any loan....Chrysler paid the government back in spite of that. So did the airlines after 9/11.. Tax payers don't pay for the government they already have....Japan, China, et al do. Personally I think who we need to eliminate are "Politicians"!
LOL! Good luck....better to not buy the nonsense they sell.

I don't know how much money the McCain campaign and the RNC are paying Joe Biden, but whatever it is it's not enough. Biden should demand a raise.

Can't lose: Obama backs Rays, Phillies By KENNETH P. VOGEL & CARRIE BUDOFF BROWN | 10/20/08 1:51 PM EDT Barack Obama, campaigning in the key swing state of Florida, is seeking to capitalize on the excitement over the World Series-bound Tampa Bay Rays, telling a Tampa crowd he was ?showing some love for the Rays,? several members of which joined him onstage. Only problem? Obama, a self-avowed Chicago White Sox fan, declared his allegiance earlier this month for the Rays? National League opponent in baseball?s championship, the Philadelphia Phillies. On Oct. 11, Obama told a crowd in the City of Brotherly Love ? the biggest city on the key swing state of Pennsylvania: ?My White Sox are gone, so I?ll go ahead and root for the Phillies now.? Yet in Tampa Monday afternoon, where he was introduced by Rays? players Fernando Perez and David Price, Obama also seemed to express support for the Rays, telling the crowd that he had just met with several members of the team backstage. "I have said from the beginning that I'm a unity candidate, bringing people together. So when you see a White Sox fan showing some love for the Rays and the Rays showing some love back, you know we're onto something here,? Obama said. complete article with pictures & video: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14750.html
As a fan of an American league team, the White Sox, he should automatically root for Tamp Bay to win. Baseball fans across the country should be laughing at him right now, but it's not happening because there's been very little coverage of this story. If McCain insulted the intelligence of voters who are fans of either team his ability to lie anytime anywhere about trivial crap like sports would be a big news story.

We only throw overboard the people who want to raise taxes in the midst of hard times (we don't discriminate based upon the party) - those idiot/fools (the axis of taxes) need to be thrown overboard

I agree, Mike - the news coverage given Obama has been full of hush, hush & omissions. If Obama were given coverage equal to Republicans they would be calling B.O. consistently worse than Dan Quaile on his worst day

Yawn! : Are we going to have to debate until Nov. Can't we just start calling O-b-a-m-a, President Obama and move on to other topics. : Like were will Palin go from here. I thinking Fox news or desperate housewives.
Don't get cocky. It ain't over 'til it's over! Obama and his team are smart enough to realize that and they'll keep campaigning hard up through the last minute. Two weeks is a long time in politics and you never know what could happen.
Yes there still those damn chads. We need to go to the thumb in ink bottle voting system so we don't have another Florida. I'm getting lots of calls from friends worried the election going to be stolen again threw ballot tampering.

So...how about this 150,000 dollar wardrobe the Republican National Committee has spent on Vice Presidential candidate Governor Palin's wardrobe in only six weeks?! I know the woman needs clothes but GEEZ!

I voted in the Early Election Yesterday . The Second day of early voting in my neck of the woods Had abig turn out. The News said there was an average of 20,000 voters an hour. love doris.

at this point of the campaign -- I am still feeling -- like voting none of the above --- (less than 2 weeks to see if that changes) usually by now ..... if I feel this way -- I have a general idea which way my vote is going to go -- as of now -- I am going to vote --- probably throwing away my vote to none of the above and having it land on a third party (instead of skipping the voting all together - because I still want to vote and also - to vote on local issues etc...) and of all times --- I hope that the campaign promises made by the winning candidate -- DO NOT COME TRUE ....... (I do not like the promises made by the 2 main candidates). [I have read their stances on the issues - and many articles, and debates -- and have found them only to be saying what they think you want to hear]

The Republican's priorities have for a long time been on tactics to get elected and nothing more; no concern for the actual harm their policies bring to countless people. As their philosophies have been completely discredit in any mainstream audience, they have only the outside package left and it's what they've been selling to those poor "Joe six-packs" these last few weeks. If we can get people to vote for McCain because Palin looks good, people won't realize that once more they've had the wool pulled over their eyes and are voting for a party that will harm all but the vry wealthy.

It's the Dems who will say anything to get elected. That's why they play class warfare every four years by telling the masses that we'll go after the rich and make them pay their fair share. They are already paying most of the taxes. The Dems know they can't squeeze much more out of them because it's the rich that create jobs. I know one guy who created 900 jobs over the past 20 years and if his taxes go any higher he's gonna stay even by laying off people. He will cut back on charity donations too. He and his wife already give far more to charity every year than most us would give in a lifetime. They even opened the doors to their home to put up families from Central America who brought their children here for surgery they couldn't get at home. Hospitals, doctors, and staff donated their time and facilities for the surgeries and the people I told you about opened the doors to their homes. One family came in there times a year for almost three years for surgery for their child. Each time the stay was about 2 to 4 weeks. They were fed, driven around, and treated with more dignity than the Democrats ever gave to their own constituents. Stuff like that goes on all the time and we never read about it. Instead, we have Democrats, most of whom are multimillionaires, telling everyone we'll go after the evil rich. :

Great video. McShame should be ashamed of himself. As for doing anything to get elected, the Governor Palin $150,000 dress professionally enough to get us elected fund is pathetic, though not illegal. Doesn't McCain trust her enough to choose her own clothes in these rough economic times? I think the answer is an $150,000 "NO"! When asked by a third grader Monday what the Vice President does, Governor Palin gave the kid the wrong answer! She told him the VP "is in charge of the United States Senate"! : She doesn't even know what the job description is for the office for which she is running. : And she's a Governor whom McCain picked to be second in line for the Presidency! And McCain says Obama lacks judgement. : Give me a break! : Obama and Biden will govern as a team for all Americans whereas McCain will govern for Americans he deems wealthy enough for his consideration - in between giving Gov. Palin additional tutoring sessions because she's still rough after her all but 5 week crash course of coaching and teleprompter reading. : Here's a link: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/10/palin-says-vice.html

Would the Last Honest Reporter Please Turn On the Lights? By Orson Scott Card Editor's note: Orson Scott Card is a Democrat and a newspaper columnist, and in this opinion piece he takes on both while lamenting the current state of journalism. An open letter to the local daily paper ? almost every local daily paper in America: I remember reading All the President's Men and thinking: That's journalism. You do what it takes to get the truth and you lay it before the public, because the public has a right to know. This housing crisis didn't come out of nowhere. It was not a vague emanation of the evil Bush administration. It was a direct result of the political decision, back in the late 1990s, to loosen the rules of lending so that home loans would be more accessible to poor people. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were authorized to approve risky loans. What is a risky loan? It's a loan that the recipient is likely not to be able to repay. The goal of this rule change was to help the poor ? which especially would help members of minority groups. But how does it help these people to give them a loan that they can't repay? They get into a house, yes, but when they can't make the payments, they lose the house ? along with their credit rating. They end up worse off than before. This was completely foreseeable and in fact many people did foresee it. One political party, in Congress and in the executive branch, tried repeatedly to tighten up the rules. The other party blocked every such attempt and tried to loosen them. Furthermore, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were making political contributions to the very members of Congress who were allowing them to make irresponsible loans. (Though why quasi-federal agencies were allowed to do so baffles me. It's as if the Pentagon were allowed to contribute to the political campaigns of Congressmen who support increasing their budget.) Isn't there a story here? Doesn't journalism require that you who produce our daily paper tell the truth about who brought us to a position where the only way to keep confidence in our economy was a $700 billion bailout? Aren't you supposed to follow the money and see which politicians were benefiting personally from the deregulation of mortgage lending? link to complete article: http://www.linearpublishing.com/orsonscottcard.html

Well it looks like McCain finally gets a major endorsement (article taken from the BBC): Supporters of al-Qaeda have said they would prefer Republican candidate John McCain to win the US election because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In a message broadcast on the password-protected al-Hesbah site, the group said they would also welcome a pre-election terror attack on the US because that would make a McCain win more likely. In an endorsement that will not be welcomed by Mr McCain's flagging campaign, the group said that if al-Qaeda wants to exhaust the USmilitarily and economically, the "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate is the better choice. "This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said. "Then, al-Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush."
