. Also, we really need to get God back into the equation. People doing the right thing, following the 10 commandments. Which, btw, has little to do with religion and a lot to do with law.
SORRY BUT YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG HERE!!! This is an example as to why we can't move forward as a people. Not all of us are Monotheist. I have been a practicing Polytheist for 42 years now and will continue to be so. I have had to defend my religion when Monotheist take away my rights to do so. So, the 10 commandments are wrong there. Secondly, the second commandment that is against art. all art. Life without art is stupid. (Just quoting a current bumpersticker around Detroit). Thirdly, the fifth commandment may say Thou shall not kill, but the book of Leviticus gives graphic descriptions on how to kill certain people with explicit details in how to cut them up. IT'S GROSS AND DISGUSTING. So, don't go getting on your might God-horse telling us that is what is needed. and don't go telling me I've got to pray to your GOd. I'm an American.

I think Hymn was just expressing his opinion on it all....not telling you what yours should be....

When The Constitution was written...Men had one shot flintlock rifles that took a minute to reload...and now...we have weapons that can kill 100 people in less than one minute...and are available to teenagers
Exactly and they did not envision what is available now. It's both a mental health issue and a gun issue. Nobody needs assault rifles. Nobody.

I think the situation reported is a criminal act and needs to be addressed as such. love doris

My cousin lives there but fortunately his daughter wasn't in that school. TV, videogames, movies, etc, try to make violence looking cool and it should stop. Now even disney make movies about kids killing each others. 4 months ago I almost died when a crazy git came to the store of my mother that is on our house and had all my family and a coca cola worker in our knees. I really thought he was gonna kill the coca cola worker because he didn't have money. Where I live (Guadalajara, México) people don't use to have guns and it's not easy to get one (in my city is not as violent as other cities that are shown on tv) so I'm almost sure it didn't stop him and he got it illegally. If a crazy person wants to kill someone, he's gonna find a way to do it. I think we should start EVERYTHING in prevention, you know, try to find the crazy people and help them. I don't think it's their fault if they are crazy or psychopaths, remember they are not like us, some of them don't even have feelings as we have.

I agree also. The NRA is holding a live press conference now. They are saying that schools should be protected by armed guards. They just don't get it. They want more guns Then will parents have to hire private armed guards to get their children back and forth from school : The NRA is the monster in the room spokesman just said
"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." .
he said it..God save us from these loonies now says should have an armed guard in every class room sick, sick, sick

That's an exaggeration, isn't it? I'm fine with banning these "assault weapons." Let's do it and move on. Let's move on to the reasons why "little Johnny wants to kill mommy and daddy." -and- why "Bobby feels he should be entitled to forcefully take another's shoes."

and that is not always a mental health issue. It is parental guidence as well as TV shows & video games.

Parenting definitely. Think about it- for every asshole you know, there is a parent at home who thinks they're wonderful! But we all have access to the same games and tv... so by that definition, everyone should be acting out in the same manner. (When I was growing up Motley Crue and Ozzy were the menaces)

I'm all for the banning of certain guns (automatic, etc) as well as placing an armed police officer in every school. I think you do those two things and this crap happens a lot let frequently, and the death tolls when it does happen will be a lot less.

I've been following this conversation closely as I'm in the classroom every day. I will say that arming teachers or having armed officers in school is just NOT the answer. Guns and students don't mix. I'm not for desensitizing students to guns or their presence in those students' lives. That would be like saying that no new drivers' licenses should be given out because there are too many traffic accidents. Guns in schools? No way. Not a chance.
-
One of the other problems with armed guards in schools is who is going to pay for it? Schools are underfunded enough as it is and the 1% don't want to pony up their share to drive on my roads.

You're right. I looked at the transcript and he said an armed guard in every school not classroom. The trouble is there was an armed guard at Columbine, Virginia Tech has it's own police force and you know Ft. Hood has armed people all around so that hasn't stopped massacres. There's no way to stop all shooting but banning assault weapons, requiring background checks , no internet sales of guns or ammo. close the gunshow loophold, and make them reload after each shot. btw: At the exact same moment that the NRA president was displaying his crazy to the world, a gunman in Pennsylvania killed four people and wounded three state troopers. You know those troopers were armed.

We were very shocked & even more saddened to learn a good friend of ours has a friend whose child was killed in the Sandy Hook shooting. And last night, we received a phone call from our kid's school, that there was an emergency shut down of school due to a bomb threat! Is there ever going to be an end to all the violence & horror?
-
Had armed police officers in my high school. While we didn't kill each other, we still beat on each other and had fights. An armed officer in every school is NOT the answer--not to mention schools are already underfunded.

I don't know why you laugh about the suggestion walliebaby. There are schools in Chicago where I'm from that have metal detectors and armed cops in them already, and you don't see this type of stuff happening, even though these schools are loaded with gang members etc. it works. And you all can go around thinking you're gonna change everyone's heads, but I say I'll pay a little more in taxes to have the added protection of an armed officer protecting my kids in school. Arming teachers is not what I'm saying. I'm just saying one or two armed cops is totally a viable option. It would absolutely stop the chances of what just happened from ever happening again. Again, it's not a laughing matter.

Kapoo...I am in Chicago too & we both know it doesn't only happen in scholls. What about all the shootings all frickin year long? Innocent kids & even adults are shot for no reason. Cops at every svhool will not work. There will never be that kind of money available unless the parents pay a special tuition or something. The guns will never be taken off the streets.
