Really want to see "Love and Mercy" again for the acting, the emotion and sensitivity shown for Brian Wilson, and marvelous scenes depicting music being made and the creative process. I complained, before viewing, that John Cusack doesn't look like Wilson, but it turned out he captures his essence, his soul. This all really reached me. Elizabeth Banks was also moving. The recent bio pic of James Brown is as good or better than "Love and Mercy." Still waiting for the long promised movie about Janis Joplin. A bio pic on her.

Three new ones out on DVD, "End of the Tour" lead actor Jason Segal really channeled the brilliant writer David Foster Wallace, should score an Oscar nom. He usually acted in comedies before this, I think. Jesse Eisenberg also turned in a stellar performance as the "Rolling Stone" journalist. "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl"--excellent movie, stunning. "Magic Mike XXL"--rather lurid and disgusting in parts (in too many parts), not much of a plot at all, should have shown the guys on stage dancing and stripping more often. Heap bad juju when they are shown taking "Molly" and its effects. Maybe would have done better at the box office if not for that bad drug karma. Sets an awful example. Their big dance scene near the end is very entertaining, but then the movie just peters out (bad pun, sorry), but wow Channing Tatum can really hoof it The boy can really dance and prance

"Paper Towns" comes out on DVD Nov. 17--"Rickie and the Flash" starring Meryl Streep on Nov. 24--"Amy" documentary on Amy Winehouse, Dec. 1. I re-rented "Magic Mike XXLL" to see the big spectacular dance scene at the end again, and to determine if the movie was as jaw-droppingly stupid as I recalled--it is. It's a sleazy, trashy tribute to heterosexuality that could turn anyone gay (LOL). Andi MacDowell and Jada Pinket Smith really lower themselves in this, but Jada does get to say just about the only useful line in the film--"Ladies, use birth control"-- I saw "End of the Tour" again starring Jason Segel as the late author David Foster Wallace (he seems to actually become Wallace, as if channeling him) and the also-wonderful Jesse Eisenberg. This film is a tribute to D.F.W. in the most understatedly effective poignant and bittersweet way. A film to be seen again and again--also saw "Love and Mercy" again for the third time--can't wait to see "Amy" and "Rickie and the Flash" and the documentary on the late funny man Chris Farley.

Probably the most beautiful cover of Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven ever!!! HEART (Ann and Nancy Wilson) @ Kennedy Center Honors

"Rickie and the Flash"--Meryl Streep plays a Bonnie Raitt-like rock singer! And songwriter. She taught herself to play guitar for this role. From playing Margaret Thatcher to Rickie Flash--awesome. Meryl could play just about any character. The movie is very entertaining and also quite touching in parts. A real winner Lots of music, too, as you'd expect. And her band is good including Rick Springfield and an old black man and an old Indian. They all rock Her daughter Mamie Gummer can act, too. She plays Meryl's movie daughter in this delightful film. Rickie is always true to herself, no matter what, and that's inspiring.

Amy the Amy Winehouse documentary out Tuesday Dec. 1 on DVD ! Also found out there's a new Ingrid Bergman documentary. Fantastic actress, so natural in her acting

"Paper Towns" --a well made wryly humorous movie about teens based on the novel by John Green ("The Fault In Our Stars")--30 Something Star Polly Draper's son Nic Wolff (he's very likeable) stars, also Cara Delevigne. A good film for adults is "Five Steps" Diane Keaton and Morgan Freeman. Freeman is awesome in this. It's well acted by everyone, and heartwarming, moving. Cynthia Nixon co-stars and does remind you of Miranda in "Sex in the City" as it's set in New York City. The intense "August: Osage County" is worth repeated viewings. Will see "Amy" the Winehouse documentary and a new romantic comedy with Pierce Brosnan, Salma Hyek and Jessica Alba. Procured "Admissions" with Tina Fey and Paul Rudd and "Betsey's Wedding" with Alan Alda and Molly Ringwald. I want to find "Fatso" with Anne Bancroft and Dom DeLuise, it was so funny and "True Stories" cool musical with David Byrne and John Goodman, another one of my favorites, had it on VHS, now want those on DVD. "Trainwreck" w/ Amy Shumer and Brie Larson out on DVD Dec. 8, saw it on the big screen, was fairly amusing. Liked second banana Brie Larson in that more than Shumer. Larson might win a slew of awards for "The Room" which I would be able to take better on my tiny portable DVD player's tiny screen better than on the big screen, it sounds harrowing.

TV show Vicious season 1. So funny! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicious_(TV_series)

"Mistress America" with Greta Gerwig in a delicious quirky character study of a thirty year old floundering, trying to figure out what to do with herself and her life when she just can't seem to follow through on things. "Into the Woods" another new DVD release starring Robert Redford, Emma Thompson and Nick Nolte--rather charming and humorous in a low-key way, subtle. At first it was kind of a shock to see Redford so aged (he's 80 by now), but upon second viewing you realize he's still kind of handsome albeit in a weathered manner. His writer character is disarming and grows on you as the nature loving plot (based on a true story) progresses. Nolte has some amusing moments. Time magazine named this flick one of the year's worst movies, but I disagree. They also relegated "Aloha" and "Hot Pursuit" on the "worst" list and I enjoyed both those films, although the latter could have been made more screwball. "Aloha" brimmed with fun screwball elements.

"Into the Woods" starred Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, James Corden and Johnny Depp plus many others. You meant "A Walk In The Woods." P.S. Robert Redford will be 80 next August 18.

Yes, that's right "A Walk In the Woods" (a very long walk, it was a famous hiking trail that started in Georgia and ended up North). I was glad to see Blythe Danner singled out by Time magazine for her great performance in the very touching "I'll See You In My Dreams"--her co-star Sam Elliott was also highly praised by Time (also for his turn in "Grandma" starring Lily Tomlin). Greta Gerwig was quite endearing in "Mistress America." Co-star Lola Kirk also made an impression, but Greta's Brooke was irrepressible. Now I want to see "Francis Ha" that stars Gerwig and Sting's daughter Mickey Sumner. Sumner has sort of a Cate Blanchett look to her visage. She was also in "The End of the Tour" which I loved, about the late writer David Foster Wallace. Maybe the Independent Spirit Awards will honor these performances and films which seemed to be overlooked by the major awards venues--Blythe Danner could be nominated for an Oscar, though, and Jason Segel as David Foster Wallace ought to snare a nom also, he deserves it.
