He won't reach his 2008 total, but he still has the two highest popular vote totals in presidential election history.
Johnson won 61.1% of the popular vote. Both Nixon and Franklin Roosevelt won over 60%. Several presidents have won well over 51%.

If the population always gets higher, the vote count will always get higher. Bush had more votes than anyone at that time. As did Reagan, Nixon, Johnson, Eisenhower and etc. The next Republican president will probably win more votes than anyone ever has. Should his future supporters grasp at this straw when their man wins? Percentage is a far greater indicator than number of votes.

Since links to articles written by others rather than our own words are de rigueur, here is an article written by someone else. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/17/world/middleeast/suspected-collaborator-with-israel-executed-in-gaza.html?_r=0 (Graphic image warning) Some ask why negotiations between Israel and Palestine always fail. How do you negotiate with terrorists?

Obama?s re-election forces Florida governor to seriously address health care reform: "Gov. Rick Scott doubled down that he could outlast Obamacare. He lost. ... "...re-election of President Barack Obama, along with the return of a Democratic-led Senate, guarantees the Affordable Care Act will keep moving forward, including here in Florida, where Scott has been among its staunchest opponents. Scott placed his bet just days after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the law in June, saying Florida wouldn't implement two key provisions: the expansion of Medicaid for poor adults and the creation of a state-run marketplace where residents shop for and buy commercial health insurance policies. He was confident Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney would win the election and promptly repeal the contentious law. But experts from both sides say Obama's win -- and wide voter sentiment that there should be an end to partisan bickering -- will force Scott, Florida's Legislature and the U.S. Congress to seriously address health care reform. ..." http://medcitynews.com/2012/11/obamas-re-election-forces-florida-governor-to-seriously-address-health-care-reform/

I am definitely not a Middle East expert, but I think it is a human rights failure of the world for the Palestinian people to be living in the conditions they live in day in and day out. Hamas might be designated a terrorist organisation and so they are, but what are right wing Israeli leaders? It is just the same thing with a different political spin to it. The Palestinian people are relegated to live in what is no more than a Reservation, just like what happened to the Native American Indian's of the USA. I wonder why the other Arab states do nothing to help the Palestinian people, like the rich Saudi's or whomever? If no one ever helps the innocent Palestinian people who are not involved in Terror campaigns, Israel will never be happy until they push them into the Sea. If the world would just fix this human rights disaster, which is the Palestinian condition, at least there might be some type of calm in the region. What does the world expect when the Palestinian people have no future for their lives or the lives of their children? jmo.

Palestine is more complicated than one side against another. It is not a sovereign state, but generations of people are living their lives there. The people have no control over their government and are not free to criticize those in power. Those who speak out against their rulers face street executions without trial. There is no single government in Palestine. The Hamas and Fatah are at war with each other and there are different factions within the Hamas. Gaza is controlled by opposing gangs of murderers, not by experienced world leaders. It is difficult to negotiate with Palestine because there is no unified leadership between the West Bank and Gaza, and only chaos within Gaza. Arab states have no more control over this than does Israel, the US, the EU or anyone else. It is easy to blame Israel, but without their stability and support, the West Bank would be like Gaza. If Israel were wiped off the map tomorrow, all of Judea would become a free for all for every terrorist group willing to fight to the death for control. As always, the people of Palestine would suffer the most.
-
I am not blaming the Israeli's or any one person or group of people. I was just making an observation about the unacceptable conditions that the Palestinian people are forced to live in. The parallels with their existence and what happened to the Native American Indians are there. I just wish the world would stop identifying themselves as a particular race or religion against another race or religion and kill each other over it. We are all the same, it is just sad.
-
I want to embrace the American Indian reservation analogy because that would make it easier to explain to others. This would make it more relatable to Americans if it were apt. However, the British never divided the American colonies into three separate territories, with two becoming stable states while the other was in a constant state of civil war, eventually dividing itself into two territories, one of which was controlled by rampaging Indians who ruled through murder and fear. Unless that is what happened. In which case, my knowledge of American history is weaker than I suspect. The main issue from my point of view is not one particular race or religion killing another particular race or religion, but some very bad people treating the people they control very badly.
-
al Sabah, I guess you are the expert on all global history, so I have nothing to add. This poor fool here, being me, was only making the point that in the end of all of this history and political football, is a genocide of a particular people. That imo, is what the two have in common. One word = Genocide.

Reading this thread reminds me of a song titled blinded by the light! Go right ahead and celebrate the unGodly reelection of Obama, but the tsunami is coming, just you wait and see! Allen West is a war hero, and a very reasonable and intelligent man! Where are the racist claims when it's the liberals calling conservatives and especially conservative blacks all kinds of disrespectful names, like Oreo, Uncle Tom and sell out? Bill Maher calling Mrs. Palin the S word, I don't hear anyone up in arms about that? I mean they just come right out and say it, and don't get me started on the media! They kissed Obama's butt so much I thought they were apart of his body! Talk about biased. Let someone disagree with Obama and they are automatically called racist, let's also talk about a double standard! The left uses this tactic so much it's become ridiculous, if you don't like chocalate cookies you're a racist. The left love to throw words like bigot, racist, prejudice and intolerent at you, but don't see it when they do it. They get a pass, but let a conservative even begin to say something like that and they totally freak out! That's why I don't pay their cop out any attention, and that's exactly what it is, a cop out, an excuse they love to use when questions are asked about their unGodly President, practices and policies! No one has been more racist then the left, the Ku Klux Klan were Democrats, liberal is just another word for the unGodly!! Pray for America, because it's going to reap what it has sown!!

I was going to ignore your rant until I read the portion in bold. Technically this is correct, but in regards to the current political climate, it is epitomizes misleading information. This particular segment of Democrats were known as the Dixie-crats. And guess what happened when LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act into law? They became Republicans. So, using your logic, if driving home the point that Democrats are racist because the KKK WERE Democrats, does this also mean that Republicans ARE racist because the Southern Democrats BECAME Republicans? Oh, and on a personal level, you can kindly shut up about interjecting God's name with your political agenda. If Jesus were alive today, he'd be a socialist. This isn't a religion thread, but the idea of calling the party that looks after the interests of the poor, hard-working and disadvantaged "unGodly" simply because the other guys have manipulated the issue of abortion into a black-and-white, good-vs.-evil problem is laughable, until it becomes infuriating because of obnoxious know-nothings such as yourself. President Obama won. The majority of Americans are happy. Take your Diet Coke version of the Westboro Baptist Church schtick and go spew your erroneous, judgmental hate speech elsewhere.
