Small Gig Speculation Thread
-
Hey everyone.
I figured I'd create this thread so that all of the small gig rumors and info are contained within a single thread instead of being scattered around some of the existing ones. It also seems as though they will be separate from the Freshen Up tour. (If this is an issue, mods: feel free to close this one out or merge if possible)
So far the speculation seems to be heavily on LA, New York, and possibly England. Maybe even a gig in between the Austin City Limit shows?

All seems to be quite on the small gig front.
Can't find the article, but Paul seemed to suggest at the end of June that the small gigs were still in the very early planning stages. (He was quoted as saying something along the lines of "Note to self: get those planned becaues they are almost here".) I speculate that the gigs may occur near the very end of July (in other words, July 20-31) to allow for his management team to sort out the details. Just a guess!
Any other cities that may be possible candidates?

Well he does jet-set all over the place, but he is usually in Liverpool at the end of July for the LIPA graduation ceremony. I don't know the date this year. I still think NYC, LA and London are the prime places for one of these gigs.

Yes, the graduation is usually at the end of July sometime, but dates probably vary every year. I don't think LIPA puts dates for graduation ceremonies on their website because it's no doubt by invitation only, and if Paul will be there, they want to make sure parents and families of the graduating students get first priority of course as far as entry and seating to the event. Somehow there's always fans outside LIPA though to watch Paul entrance and departure.
Since he did a surprise gig in Liverpool on the James Corden Carpool Karaoke, do you think he might do another surprise gig there? Since he'll be doing concerts in the UK probably wouldn't be impossible later this year.

If history means anything, the last time Paul performed "secret" gigs back in 2007, he started in London on June 6, followed by New York on June 13 and Los Angeles on June 27.

I would think the secret gigs or pop ups would coincide with the release of the new album.

Agree, but here's what Paul said, from whatever interview this came from recently:
Finally, on the subject of retiring, McCartney comments: “I was talking to — name dropping, clunk — Willie Nelson. I was talking about this whole retiring thing, ‘cause you know he’s older than I am even! And he says ‘Retire from what?’ and I think that just says it, you know ‘Retire from what?’
“So no, I love it, I enjoy it…so we’re going to do some little gigs in July, don’t know what those are going to be yet. Note to self, must try and figure it out ‘cause they’re approaching fast and then we do some bigger productions and things after that.”

Thanks for that info, DrivinFan! Something to think about.

Thanks for the quote. I had been looking for that one but couldn't seem to find it.

I would hope so, otherwise Paul's getting all of our hopes up for nothing! Thanks, Bob. Too soon for another Liverpool one in my opinion, so maybe NYC or LA? I guess time will tell.
Also, does anyone know if there is a way to include multiple quotes within a single reply?

There is, but I don’t know how to. PM LadyLeslie - she knows how.

London around release date of the new album, for sure.
-
I think they are coming. I have a good guess for the first one but we all know I don't spill beans
-
My hunch is NYC next week. Billy Joel is at MSG Wednesday so I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up there as well.
-
Maybe San Diego Comic-Con?
That has become much more less about cmoics and more about entertainment in general...plus it would cater to a differernt audience and draw in new fans.

Yeah, he could come dressed as Magneto or Titanium Man!

This is the perfect type of show to "wing it" (lol) and do solo songs never done before live. People are not paying big money and little gigs are less formal. I am not saying he does not have to play some hits but I think these type of shows give him more freedom and wish he would take advantage of it.
