Small Gig Speculation Thread

Bob when you peer into your crystal ball, what type of numbers are you seeing? 2 days? 1 week? Or is it still blurry at this point?
Also for those fortunate to have attended a small gig like Irving Plaza in the past: when it's first-come first-served for tickets (with tickets being sold at 10am for instance), do you need to stay at the venue until the concert or are you free to leave after getting your ticket?

At Irving Plaza, along with another board member, we got wrist bands at around 10AM and then were told what time to be back in the evening.

Secret Gig in Liverpool tomorrow
Yes, Paul has just announced it in the Facebook Live Q and A at LIPA.
Really enjoyed the Facebook Q&A session. Apart from a few old, well worn stories he was on good form and very engaging - lots of laughs. Particularly liked his S&M predilection quip. And I smiled at the irony when he talked about the Beatles in Hamburg playing lots of different songs and varying the set so they didn't get bored night after night! Never going to happen but I'd like to see this format for a tour - Q&A session followed by a short set.
You are right, the irony of being bored with a set list - lol. The shame is it would not be hard for him to do especially now when he still has months before his "tour" begins and he can try things out in the "secret" shows. In addition to the songs from the new album, throw in 3-4 songs from his long solo career never done live and you have really freshened up your set list. Have a few songs that you can rotate in and out every other night and that helps it stop being boring. In addition, stop with the worn stories and tell some new ones even if they are Beatle related. My goodness, you have a lifetime of experience playing music around the world. Let's hear about other times in your life.

With the #underthestaircase concert being at Abbey Road and there being speculation of the Cavern Club being the location for the Liverpool concert, I wonder if there’s going to be a theme of locations that would be significant in Beatles history. Which might be trickier to find in NYC—Ed Sullivan Theatre maybe?
Was thinking exactly the same thing. Of course he did the gig at the ES Theatre in 1992, but he's done return gigs at The Cavern and even Abbey Road too. Other possibilities might be Carnegie Hall or even the Plaza Hotel, but Sullivan is by far the most significant. Who knows though (except Bob).
Bob didn’t think there would be a 2nd Liverpool secret gig, though!
I definitely would have doubted it, but I told someone off board, Absolutely nobody would be expecting it so it would be the perfect time to do another. I had a feeling with Brian on the train that LIPA was going to happen. But no, other than an off feeling, I had no idea. But honestly with everything going on right now, I haven't been trying to find out about shows that I can't go to. Not that I would have been successful anyway, these type things are kept close to the vest until the very last minute. I had friends inside the LIPA show and at least one more friend has snagged a ticket to the Cavern
i've been working hard to angle myself at a mere chance if NYC happens. Because I don't see any invites coming my way!

Crystal ball still very fuzzy, if happening , it could be anywhere from next week until around album release. So much chatter going on right now. Different time frames, different venues. But I did get the first credible lead today so I continue to dig!!

How would that be possible? The tickets for the Cavern were only made available from the Echo Arena box office a few minutes ago. Is there a secret masonic underground network?!

MSG too big for a "small gig". Ed Sullivan Theatre makes sense, except of course it is used for the Stephen Colbert show so would have to either be on a weekend when they don't tape, or tied into an appearance by Paul on the show perhaps.

Couldn't agree more Yankeefan. From looking at the full Liverpool set, I seriously doubt we will get any more than the "Egypt Station" songs.
When you think about it, Paul's Band have had quite a great (and easy) career working with Paul. I'm sure they get paid handsomely, travel all over the world and they have very little "homework". Since they worked with Paul in the studio on many of the "Egypt Station" songs, even these new ones are probably pretty easy for them musically. Imagine if Paul gave them a list of songs to learn from Chaos, Flowers, Pie, MAF, Tug, Press etc., and gave them a series of rehearsal dates. They would have some actual homework. For Brian and Rusty who are trying to establish their own music career/identity, the Macca gig is a dream come true. From a gut feel about all of these nice and talented guys, they would probably like it if Paul actually wanted to do more and different songs on stage.
As far as the "worn stories"... a few new Solo songs (especially those like Beautiful Night, Take It Away, Wanderlust etc. where he worked with the great George Martin) alone would create new stories for all fans casual and hard core alike.

BJ, I have always wondered about his band. Yes, it is a great job for them but they can probably do these concerts in their sleep. Rusty, Brian & Abe have been with him over 15 years and Wix has been touring with him over 25 years. I would think they would be comfortable going to McCartney and saying they really like a few solo songs and would like to do them in concert to break up the boredom. Geez, they have played on his albums since DR in 2001 so it is not like a bunch of these songs are totally new to them. Even if you go back to album like TOW, do we really think it would be hard for this band to learn "Take It Awy" in maybe a couple hours at most. I agree with you about stories, it would be great to hear about working with George Martin on the songs you mentioned. Sadly, if he ever mentions George Martin you know it will be about him working the with Beatles - SMH.

This band does make suggestions, however, bottom line is Sir Paul is in charge. And any lack of spontaneity in the setlist falls squarely on his shoulders.

I am sure they do make suggestions, I wonder just how hard they press the issue but in the end McCartney is the boss.

Because I think these "secret " gigs kind of give you an idea of what he may play when he starts his new tour. I will stop talking about it now in this thread because IMO it is very obvious that the new tour will feature 3-4 songs off Egypt Station and little else will change.
