What are yours? Here's my list, with a short explanation about why each strikes me as special.  A few popular favorites aren't on my list -- your mileage may vary.

And I Love Her. A simple, straightforward love song with what's arguably the first of those lovely, bittersweet, slightly mysterious melodies that lifts the song to a whole new level and that would become a Paul trademark.

Here, There and Everywhere. Paul in dreamy-romantic mode. Pretty close to perfect.

I Will. Another dreamy-romantic tune, but with an odd twist in the lyrics that suggests the object of his affection may not even be real.

Maybe I'm Amazed. I don't know another song that so perfectly captures the beautiful but slightly scary nature of falling in love -- scary because it inherently involves surrendering control. The vocal takes what's suggested in the lyrics and brings it to electrifying life. My candidate for best rock love song (and best rock vocal performance) ever.

Every Night. If those "oohs" don't melt you, you may be made of granite.

I'm Carrying. Another emotionally complex, bittersweet tune. He's trying to patch something up that clearly went awry, and we don't really know how it will turn out.

My Valentine. This has always sounded to me like a long-lost George and Ira Gershwin tune. I love how the music tracks the mood in the lyrics, from pensive to joyous. A neglected masterpiece.

Hand In Hand. This one puzzled me at first: A love song with a melody that feels downright mournful. Then it struck me that the lyrics repeatedly raise the possibility that they may screw it up: "I will try to make it happen," "We can make each other happy if we get it right," etc. This is a love song that could only be written by someone who's lived long enough to see all the ways relationships can go wrong. Haunting. Exquisite.

I agree with all of your choices, especially Maybe I’m Amazed, which of course was for/about Linda. I Will was also written about her and makes perfect sense as he wrote it while still technically with Jane, but in love with her. HTAE is inarguably his best Beatles love song. Even John Lennon thought so. 😉

              "Maybe I'm Amazed"

              "Calico Skies"

              "My Love"

              "Silly Love Songs"

              "Warm and Beautiful"

              "And I Love Her"

              "Here There and Everywhere"

              "I Will"

              "Every Night"

              "Eight Days a Week"

              "Beautiful Night"

              "Let Me Roll It"

"I Shoulda Known Better with a girl like you"

              "I Wanna Be Your Man"

"Baby You Can Drive My Car"

              "1985"

(Maybe the last 4 aren't considered "love songs" but they have the word "Love" in the lyrics, so hope they'll get a pass to be included on the list, lol)

He's written so many beautiful songs to choose from, but those are my favorites

Also wanted to add "All My Loving" - the opening words are very sweet "Close your eyes and I'll kiss you, tomorrow I'll miss you, remember I'll always be true..."

I was watching a documentary about John Lennon's death, and one of the hospital staff that worked on him when he arrived said, ironically, that "All My Loving" was playing on the waiting room speakers of the hospital when the ambulance brought John in .

I remember reading about that! 😢

I believe Paul wrote All My Loving for Jane. He had just started seeing her in April 1963 and the song was recorded in July.

I'd never heard that story before. Wow.

And -- veering off-topic for a second -- can you imagine working in an emergency room and realizing the patient they just wheeled in is John Lennon? This is why I could never work in medicine -- I'd have totally lost it.

There was a young reporter there on a stretcher in the E.R. with a broken leg or something from a motorcycle accident. He saw everything and realized it was John being worked on. He somehow got to a pay phone and called his boss to report it. He remembered the Beatles song being played too.

I don’t think the nurses or doctors realized it was John until Yoko was brought in. Now I think I would have realized it was him, but as an O.R. nurse, when you’re in a situation like that you go on automatic pilot and just do what needs to be done, regardless of the situation. I have had patients who were fairly famous (not as gunshot victims or accidents) and believe it or not, I was the circulating nurse for the gallbladder removal of the guy who wore the glasses who was flying the 2nd plane that hit the World Trade Center. Prior to 9/11 they took flying lessons near where I live at a small airport. He admitted himself under a false name but after 9/11 happened his floor nurses put 2 and 2 together and we figured it out. I specifically remembered taking care of him because in pre-op there were like 3 other Middle Eastern men with him - no women. And he was so hairy it took me about 15 minutes to shave his chest!

I've said it before, and I will say it again... I have the utmost respect for people working in the medical profession. Particularly the nurses, because they are horribly underpaid for what they do....that being said, you could pay me a million dollars a year and I couldn't do it. I'm not strong enough to do it. I know a few nurses and they are heroes.

                          Paul love songs:

                          And I Love Her

                          Here, There and Everywhere

                          My Love

                          Maybe I'm Amazed

I could argue "Why Don't We Do it in the Road" and certainly "Oh! Darling" (a fear of losing love)

                          Here Today

Got to Get You into My Life

                          Put it There

                          Little Lamb Dragonfly

I haven't given it an 'excess' of thought, cos I am sure I am missing many. I'm just throwing them out there. And obviously, I am extending 'love' beyond romance.

I can only be in total agreement with you there. Its just a shame Paul doesn't think the same as he's virtually ignored Waterfalls since the day he recorded it nearly 40 years ago now.

I have been married to a nurse for almost 32 years. It is for the most part a thankless job (long hours, working weekends and holidays, lack of respect from doctors etc) but there are some moments when you help someone that make it worthwhile.

Particularly the nurses, because they are horribly underpaid for what they do....that being said, you could pay me a million dollars a year and I couldn't do it. I'm not strong enough to do it. I know a few nurses and they are heroes.

I have been married to a nurse for almost 32 years. It is for the most part a thankless job (long hours, working weekends and holidays, lack of respect from doctors etc) but there are some moments when you help someone that make it worthwhile.

We're way off topic here, but my late husband was a nurse. His last job was in the oncology unit of a very famous  hospital in Los Angeles (that treated him horribly when he got cancer himself, but that's another story). Some of the stories he told me would curl your hair. One of the toughest jobs in the world.
