Where would he even play in the US this year?
There must be a few cities he hasn't been to for a few years by now?
He hasn't played Atlanta since 2014!
A whole three years!!
I guess you were being facetious (and/or you're from Australia!) but three is "a few years" as 5th-beatle said.

Steffen, It is still kind of early and common for things to be extremely quiet. And trust me, right now, things are dead silent. I hear possible additions to the Tokyo shows. As for Europe, America and everywhere else? At this point everyone has a chance. Impossible right now to rule anyone out or in. Hopefully things will open up in March, we'll see As for new album. According to Steve Marinucci's site, a source told him a possible single released in June and album shortly after that (think it said July/August) but don't hold me to it. You have to remember that these things change sometimes until they finally pick the actual date. We are all excited about new album and tour and my advice for now is to hang in there! That's what I'm gonna do

July/August the industry is on lock, and in the past no high profile artist would've released an album in those months (or after early November/before early January). And McCartney never did. But it's 2017, and the industry has changed a lot and release dates don't say much any more, some of the biggest albums of the past few years were given away for free or dropped at a random Wednesday night in December with no advance notice. It seems McCartney is still doing it the old-fashioned way: months in advance first a teaser, then an album name, then a tracklist, release date, press promos way in advance, and so on. I can't see him changing that, and that makes me doubt he would release an album in the summer months. But it actually would do him good and I would applaud it, with him being able to crack the charts again, with not much competition those days. An opportunity for a #1 spot is gone forever though since they messed up the 'New' release so bad and the charts rules changed since then. Streaming is now counting heavily to give a more representative view of what's actually popular, meaning it could happen a half year old Drake album took away the #1 spot from best physically selling album The Xx a few weeks ago.

So in your opinion we will probably have to wait until the October-November tour dates (if any are confirmed) to hear new songs performed live?

Not necessarily, Paul performed songs from "Off The Ground" a few months before the LP was released in 1993. IIRC, he did the same thing for his latest "New" cd.

Do you remember which NEW songs were played before the cd's release? -Rubber Soul13

New, Queenie Eye, Everybody Out There, and Save Us were played at a surprise "pop up" show in Times Square a few days before the album was released.

No, not at all. But I also don't think he sees new material as anything relevant to his current show, and if he will play a song or two before the album release it's only because he feels like it, not because he wants to promote anything. The last time he played a new song months in advance must have been 'Follow Me' in 2004 for Glastonbury, and that was something bold, as encore even. These days he doesn't even play his new work, and even when he's got a single to promote he finally adds it months after the release and drops it soon after.

'Save Us' and 'Everybody Out There' got debuted in mid-September during the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. 'New' and 'Queenie Eye' were already released by then. He then played the same selection - bar the upcoming single 'Queenie Eye'!!! - at Jimmy Kimmel the same week and Jimmy Fallon and the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts 2 weeks later.

Perhaps he will play in Japan this year not doing songs from the upcoming album and then return to Tokyo next year, adding 3 or 4 of those new tracks

Ahh, that's right. Thanks! My memory escapes me, but weren't some of the songs on the album already made available (not for buying, just for listening such as through this website) before the Times Square show? Times Square wasn't the first time we were hearing those four, right? -Rubber Soul13

that was only NEW, not the rest

Right, that's the only one that I remember hearing on this website. But I remember someone in the audience for Paul's Times Square show was shouting for him to play Early Days. Which makes me think that maybe that one was released earlier too? -Rubber Soul13

See my post above. 'New' shock-released 28 August 2013, 'Save Us' and 'Everybody Out There' debuted live mid-September, a 5-track sampler (including 'Early Days' and 'Queenie Eye') leaked 5 October, full-album listening events in the form of drive-ins at 6 October, samples of all tracks including the bonus tracks arrived 9 October, and with the album having no buzz whatsoever the album eventually leaked in full just one day before Dutch street date (which at the time was stil 4 days before UK/US/rest of the world). The Time Square gig was in the afternoon of 10 October, local time, so the album had leaked by then and all songs he would play were available for at least a week already, some even for weeks.

Check out this map I created of all Paul concerts since 2002 in the United States and Canada... Sort by tour by clicking name of tour. This might provide some insight into where he might tour should he do US or Canada in 2017... https://batchgeo.com/map/96c3db2d9f94b8832ac9f3f43084c71e You can interpret this as places he frequently tours or try to find places he might not have done for a while. Enjoy!!

I was in Liverpool when Paul played iHeart, and lots of the people around already knew the songs names...
-
Paul also played a couple of tunes from the then upcoming Driving Rain cd at the Concert For New York City...held a month earlier.

Nothing new? Everything is quiet till March, I suppose?
