Never a big fan of that song. The sax is out of tune and it was more often than not John singing backup to Elton John rather than the other way around. Never was quite sure why John thought it was okay just as it was. His desire to do things fast didn't always work out for him. It was likely more popular than it would otherwise have been because Elton John was at the height of fame in 1974 when the song was released. IMO

John honored Elton’s bet to perform the song LIVE if the song was a #1 hit, went to #1, And John and Yoko reunited that same night and venue.

Didnt work out for him? It went #1, cant do any better than that. Sure Elton was hot at the time, but its a good track.

That doesn't change the fact that the saxaphone is out of tune throughout the song. Going to No. 1 with the help of Elton John does not change any of that. It's not terrible. It just isn't well done....in my opinion.

If this is the same writer of the McCartney #1 songs, he/she does not like anything. Is this a great song, the answer is no. That being said, it is a good song that is commercial and radio friendly. Of course, it got help commercially when Lennon was tragically murdered but still would have done well. In addition, why does writer have to take digs at McCartney when supposedly reviewing a Lennon song?Once again, if you really want good analysis of the individual Beatle solo songs you need people like the guys who do the "Take It Away" podcast. People like this writer are just hacks.
