The KIss of Venus
Hey Oobu...I've watched the video of "The Kiss of Venus" a couple of times. First impression is that I am sadly underwhelmed.
The artist (Dominic Fike) doesn't seem like a "singer-songwriter" to me. He seems to be more of a "You-tube" star or Boy Band guy. I don't like the fact that he added his own words to the song ("I read the newspaper part"). The singing is ok and then they added the lady for a small vocal part in the end. I saw Paul's part with the whistling at the very end which was a nice touch..
This being the first track of "McCartney III Imagined" being released on Youtube I am disappointed to say the least. I hope the next ones are more "true" to Paul's "McCartney III" songs. I want to see "musicians" playing their instruments to the individual song and no made up additonal lyrics to Paul's song please.

"McCartney III" is not even three months old and I personally don't care to hear other artists interpetation of songs on the album. If others enjoy that type of thing, that is great but it is just not my "cup of tea" -lol.

I hear you 100% Yankeefan. Worse yet, the guy seems to be an unknown You-tube "made up" type of artist. I don't mind if a true music star (e.g. Elvis Costello, Dave Groel, Jason Mraz, Mark Broussard) ) does their interpretation of a McCartney III song but not a "Boy Band" type of guy. I hope I'm wrong because I don't want to put down the guy and don't want to say he's not talented but this is my first impression. The guy didn't even do the whole song and added his own made up lyrics.

I like it. And the guy has 2 albums out. I never heard of him before but this is good for both him & for Paul too. I wouls assume that Paul ok'd all of these people & the songs. I have always liked when artists put their personal spin on a song. If I wanted to hear the exact original song I may as well just listen to the original. But different strokes for different folks as they say.

Oobu...thanks for your opposing view on Dominic Fike. Glad to see that he already has 2 albums. I want to think that the guy has a lot of talent but couldn't tell from this first video.
I loved Earth Wind and Fire's cover of "Got to Get You Into My Life" because it was different and done in their vocal and music style. But to me, they're cover was still the complete Paul song. As I said, I could be wrong about Dominic Fike's talent but I'm already looking forward to the next artist on tap.

Paul has 2 videos on youtube for Kiss of Venus & they have about 246,000 views since December. This new version has been up for 24 hours & has 225,000. Great exposure for both Paul & Dominic Fike.

Same here.
I've never heard of most of those artists anyway. Damon I know of though....I once helped his mum to carry a sink across her studio !!

Brilliant! I love the concept of the new McCartney III Imagined album. I had been wanting to post my own thoughts for a while about the first release, but just haven't had the time to get to it yet (busy busy!). But I had wanted to touch on the delicate issue of Paul's voice (sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't), and I wanted to suggest that Paul might share vocals with some newer artists to give the songs some proper treatment. Now we have this album, and I think that's great, on a number of levels. I'm also excited to see how other artists give their own interpretations of the songs. I'm familiar with some of the artists (Beck, St Vincent, Josh Homme), and others I don't know, but I'm looking forward to their takes. Some of the match-ups are pretty obvious, but I'm still excited about them. Beck on Find My Way is exactly the co-singer I would have suggested for this song, as the song itself has touches of that Beck vibe to begin with (and I hear bits of Buddy Holly, too, strange as it is). Or course Josh Homme would have to do Slidin', haha. One of my big faves of the album, a solid song by any standard. Paul sounded like he was trying to do a Queens of the Stone age song, and that's just cool by me! It's come full circle. I thought St Vincent would be more appropriate for Seize The Day, but I very much look forward to what she's got coming. I've heard the Dominic Fike version of Kiss of Venus (an artist I hadn't heard of til Paul mentioned him recently). I admit I have huge expectations for anyone covering this song, because I consider this a MAJOR Paul composition, and I think it holds up to anything he's done in his prime (the lost cut from the white album?). I was a bit shocked at first when I heard Dominic's version, but I'm patiently listening to it more, and it's growing on me. I love how interesting and challenging the arrangement is. I admire how Paul has brought on someone like Dominic to sing his song. (The video is very cool, too, but....oh, do we really need that cheezy moment at the end? Ah, well.). I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album! Thanks, Paul!

And maybe by doing this it will get him more exposure with the other artists fans.
