McCartney 3?
-
Picked up the CD yeaterday
Half way through it
Pretty good.Production quality very good.
Pleased to see Paul producing again
Always said his best post Beatle songs were the ones he was the Producer
The art work cover is not appealing.Boring, I think more work should have gone into it.Considering Mary is a renowned photographer.

Just been checking the latest UK & US Album charts and in the UK McCartney III has dropped out of the top 100 and in the US its still (just) hanging in there at #90.
We had hoped for it too hang in there longer but I don't think anybody is that surprised. I am glad that for the most part it has received critical acclaim and it is an album that I like a bunch.
Its going to be interesting to see in six months time what theglobal sales are for McCartney III . Unfortunately I fear that they're going to be the worst in Paul's solo career, but like you, I'm glad its received the well deserved critical praise. I certainly prefer Paul to continue releasing top notch albums that sell poorly than a rubbish album that sells a lot.
Saw this the other day that was in article by ABC News the first week "McCartney III" came out.
" The 104,000 copies of McCartney III sold also is the highest figure for an album sold by a solo rock artist since Sir Paul's previous studio effort, 2018's Egypt Station, which sold 147,000 copies. "

Guess what I heard on Sirius today? And NOT on the Beatles channel? Fond My Way!!! I was shocked. I think it was on Spectrum.

I played my guitar along with some of the songs on the album. From years ago into today it is fun in the music way to play some parts here and there ... another way to enjoy the music.

Glad to hear that news, thanks for sharing.

^ Yeah, I wish more stations would pick it up!

^ I wonder if Bob & Bruce's early original fans continue to buy their new albums. Most people at Paul's concerts barely know his solo work. All they know is his Beatles work. That's what they come for. That's why he is so stuck in the past in his concert choices.
In 2010, my wife and I were standing in line for a Paul concert in Utah (Rio Tinto Stadium). A couple behind us in line stated that they had no idea that Paul was still performing or recording. They thought that Paul had retired when Wings broke up. Think of that (this was 30 years after Wings broke up).

Yep, all they know is Beatle Paul or Paul & Wings. AND one of the reasons he should be doing more of his current songs in concert. Yeah, they won't know the songs that night but maybe they will go out & buy the cd (which he doesn't even sell at the show).

Not only do the current songs but be bold and open with one of them like he did in 1989. (Figure Of Eight). For example, if he toured again, open with "Find My Way" and follow it with uptempo Beatle song for the first timers. In addition, actually tell a story about recording your solo songs. McCartney just says something like "this is a new song" and IMO gives the impression he is not really excited about the song. As I have said several times not selling his current or any other solo CD at concerts is just plain stupid and what the heck is his management thinking.

Not just the current songs but anything from the last 20-30 years!

Paul doesn't want to see the Hey Jude, Let It Be fans do a concession run when he does new material. * If only he had someone tell him they aren't leaving. I liked when he opened with Figure Of Eight. Paul can quickly wrap a few Beatle songs among the new material and the first timers would get pumped up quick. I used to hope that long ago he would rotate some of his unheard in concert songs ... and that includes Wings songs. In the last 10 years I am glad to just see him do anything and the regular or expected songs. There could so much untapped material that would get the deeper fan woo hoo yeah fist pumping inside yes alright ... and weave it all in a concert for everyone. I can say I even liked when he rotated in a few surprises ( I say surprises, but I usually find out about them well before the show as much as try not to hear or read advance leaks)... I agree with many suggestions above with newer material. Now this bleeping virus F'd a lot of this up. (Yes I do hope for everyone's health disclaimer here). *

Maybe that was because Paul had never played in Utah before the Rio Tinto gig???? People were overcome when they saw him on stage....almost in disbelief. Finally, a Beatle came to Salt Lake City!!! God knows when I was growing up we wanted The Beatles to play there!!! We got the Beach Boys all the time, Herman's Hermits and such, but not The Beatles! The recording part is a mystery, however. My many relatives live in Utah and they are well aware of his recordings since Wings because his songs are played on the radio all the time......well, maybe not his most recent ones. His albums are still reviewed in the Salt Lake Tribune, however.

I think people were overcome because he opened with Venus Mars! I know I shed a tear when I heard it...and I was just on setlist watch here.

Yeah, & it's his own fault they take bathroom breaks when he plays unfamiliar songs. All he had to do was play them all along & they would not be unfamiliar. Everyone would sing along just like the Beatles songs.

In the US Billboard album chart, in its 4th week, McCartney III has dropped from #90 to #200. Just as a random comparison, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album has dropped from #131 to #177 ...in its 957th week.
Meanwhile, here in the UK, McCartney III has dropped out of the Top 100.

I think comparing any current album to the sales of "Dark Side Of The Moon " is a but unfair -lol

There has been a "Setlist" thread (Rock Show) with these same complaints for many years and I know myself and BJ have beaten this subject to death. It is what it is (lol) and what we hoped for will never happen.

We can just look ahead and hopefully Paul and Band can play some dates later this year. No matter where they can play I think Paul and the guys will definltely be anxious. I look for Paul to play a bunch of songs from McCartney 3. Here is my guess of specific McCartney 3 songs they will play:
Automatics
Find My Way - one of the featured songs on the album so Paul will want to play this one
Slidin - Actually Rusty and Abe were original performers on the track and I can almost guarantee they will play it. It is a natural replacement for Helter Skelter.
Seize the Day - Sounds very Beatlesque and Wingish so I think Paul will want to play this one
Maybe's
Pretty Boys - should be easy for them to do and I think it would go over very well
Women and Wives - one of the piano songs that Paul should be able to easily do
Kiss of Venus - could be one of the songs in the acoustic set
Lavatory Lil - One of the rockers that should be easy to do and is short.
If they did them all, it would be 7 McCartney 3 songs. That would be great.
-
BJ, your selections sound good and make sense but I gave up years ago trying to predict what he would do. By the time they might be able to do shows he is going to be 79 so I hope people understand it might not be that easy for him to crank out 2 1/2 hr shows anymore. He is not like Ringo and has All-Starr band sharing the show.
