McCartney 3?

Thanks Yankeefan. Feeling good and today we're getting our 2nd Maderna vaccine shots at Publix. Glad it's Friday so my wife and I can just stay close to home over the weekend in case we have any side effects from the 2nd shot. I've seen Covid/Health articles saying that the 2nd shot especially can produce more negative side effects.
As far as Maccaboard is concerned, it seems like you and me (along with Love2travel, McCall, the Fool and maybe a couple others) have any interest in Paul's latest album McCartney III. I'm amazed since the album is only a little over 2 months old. Nobody in general on this Site seems to be interested in Paul doing a "live" concert mainly on playing McCartney III with his full band. Of course we will have to wait till the majority of people get their vaccine shots but we seem to be making great progress. I'm speaking more about the US since that is where I live. Maybe by the Summer or Fall of this year Paul and the band could begin looking at potential venues. I'm still more in favor of a smaller scale show /venue. I'm just hoping that Paul and the Band are thinking along this line. It would be a great show in my opinion and might creat more of a buzz over this album, I know at least you and I think it is pretty great in general.
I did my customary early morning routine of plugging my earphones into my laptop (on Spotify's buy/stream platform right on Maccaboard dated 12/18/20) Thankfully I can listen to the whole album free without any commercials at least on Spotify.
I have to say that "Seize the Day" and "The Kiss of Venus" would make my top 10 or 15 best Paul Solo song list at this point. They're the 2 best songs on McCartney III (only my opinion). Both songs have great chorus's/bridges with great lyrics and melodies in my opinion.
Glad you are getting your 2nd vaccine shot. I got my second vaccine shot (Pfizer) last week and the only side effect was a bit of a sore arm. My wife had no problem with the 2nd Pfizer shot either. It seems to me the people who get the Pfizer shot do not have a reaction in general but the Maderna one people seems to have more chance of issues.
Your concert idea is probably liked a lot more than expressed here because IMO people know it has about as much chance of happening as me becoming POTUS -lol. How many times have all of us kept hoping for more solo songs on another newly named tour only to be disappointed again and again. If McCartney tours again, he will do the usual and plug a few songs from "McCartney III" into his Beatle heavy set list. The "McCartney III" songs will probably replace the "Egypt Station" songs and not one Beatle song will be eliminated. At his age, I think shorter shows in smaller venue is the way to go but it would not make tons of money so you know that is not happening. Artistically, the type of show you proposed is IMO even better. McCartney has nothing to prove doing his normal tour with mostly Beatle songs so doing something different would actually get some attention IMO. I definitely could see concerts happening again late summer or early fall. The US is getting over 1 million people a day vaccinated and by late this year everybody that wants vaccine should be able to get it. The Super Bowl had over 22,000 people in attendance and that was over a month ago.
As for the general interest of this board in "McCartney III", I think it has been the same as his other recent albums. Just like the Billboard charts, interest is very high the first couple of weeks and then it fades fairly quickly. A few of us may like to get into more detail and discuss it longer but that is not the same as the rest of this board. I don't have a problem with that and I am fine with discussing it with 4-5 people who are interested.
I love "Seize The Day" and "Kiss Of Venus" but "Find My Way" is the song that really sticks with me, it just IMO so very catchy. I remember feeling the same way the first time I heard "My Brave Face" many years ago. I have not given the songs on "McCartney III" any thought about where I would rank them, I will think about it in the near future and let you know -lol.

Just an observation (or two) regarding potential concerts and the inclusion of new songs etc. My main observation is that Paul is pushing eighty and remembering the words of new songs and how to play them won't come as easy to him as it would have done 20 years ago for example. Remembering older songs would be a lot easier but at the age he is now, remembering new songs won't be as easy as the ability to form new memories diminishes with age. Maybe he'll need a teleprompter on stage for any future concerts?
Personally I'd rather Paul retired from live work. McCartney III is a great album and I hope he can deliver several more like that. So rather than Paul waste his time repeating studio work in a live setting, I'd sooner he spent that time more productively by writing and recording new material.

Great points Kestrel. And your one of the "few others" I referenced that loves McCartney III as much as we do.
As far as "live shows" I think the main reason we love the idea of a "couple special, small scale and more intimate live" concerts and doing "recent" songs is that there is a much better chance for Paul remembering and playing those songs. That's why I love the idea of Paul with his Band playing almost all (or possily all) of McCartney III. if they came out with a CD, the album would have enough subtle differences in sound which I would also love. But I'm with you as far as Paul touring full tilt again. I would much rather him work in the studio on new songs/albums any day.

Thanks Yankefan...I'm with you. I like "Find My Way" a lot too. In fact, I think Find My Way, Seize the Day and The Kiss of Venus are all very good songs as well as Slidin and When Winter Comes. 5 very good songs on a new album is what we were originally hoping for. And as you said, the rest of the songs are all good album cuts. No clunkers in my opinion.

Paul always uses teleprompters in case he forgets the lyrics - he has done this for many years.
I don't think he'll give up performing live, though. He loves it too much.

Years ago at concert, I took picture of him on stage and later on I noticed that I got his teleprompter in the picture and you could see the words -lol

I agree with you, I rather see him do some more new music if possible instead of performing live. I do think if he got the itch to perform live, the proposed concerts by BJ are the way for him to do it at his age. Shorter shows, smaller setting and with doing newer material it would make it a nicer experience for him and the band IMO.

This is said in fun (but not for me) and looks like it doesn't apply to some you ...
Let's say they lift the "lockout for concerts" ... but,,, you have to have proof of a COVID vaccination...
Paul announces a return and
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! * I haven't had one yet.
okay that is over.* I have also noticed the monitor / teleprompter near Paul when he was playing piano. (It was nineteen hundred and eighty-five when I saw the words).
I get it how Paul could remember a Beatle song, probably where he was and how it felt recording, could almost do it in his sleep and then try and guess how he did McCartney III and what the words that he just wrote recently don't click as easy ...
I have always hoped Paul would play as long as he wanted and if he chose to do lesser all on his own terms and not the terms of these lockdowns or restrictions ... but, that is today's world at this time.

I agree with those saying they'd rather Paul stop the touring and focus on recording in the studio, it's his studio albums that are the most important to me. I was worried that New might be his last album, then that Egypt Station might be last, and now that McCartnet 3 might be last. I love all of them so the more the better as far as I'm concerned, especially since the quality of the albums is not dropping off at all.
Of the three most recent albums I think Egypt Station is the best (and one of the best of all Paul's albums) with New and McCartney 3 about tied just behind it.

okay that is over.I'd be willing to bet that Paul (and other performers) won't tour again until the majority of the people in the countries he's going to have been vaccinated, and that is looking like about June in the U.S.
I have a cruise next March that I HOPE requires everyone to have been vaccinated! But mostly I hope Beatleweek in August is not cancelled and they let vaccinated people into the U.K. without any quarantine!

The song that sticks with me the most is probably Kiss of Venus. As far as ranking, it would be very hard for me to place each song individually, but using tiers I'd say something like:
Tier 1-
Find My Way: would have been a great single, very fun song
Pretty Boys: I love the guitar picking and the melody is absolutely beautiful
The Kiss of Venus: my favorite song on the album and a classic IMO
Seize the Day: great song, very catchy, and I think it sounds a little Beatles-ish
When Winter Comes: I love Paul's farm/country type songs, this one feels very cozy and comforting to me
Tier 2-
Long Tailed Winter Bird: I love the riff and how the guitar sounds a bit like a Mandolin
Women and Wives: good song, I think it sounds like it's from the Chaos and Creation album
Slidin': I'm glad Paul put at least this one rocker on the album, I like it a lot but not quite as much as some of the others
Lavatory Lil: a fun song and I enjoy it
Tier 3-
Deep Down: at first I disliked this one but I've come around on it a little bit, so now I'd say it's ok
Deep Deep Feeling: the only song on the album I dislike
-
"Deep Deep Feeling: the only song on the album I dislike"
That is the one song that seems to divide people, it is one of those love it or hate it songs. It has grown on me but I will admit if it was cut by 2 minutes it would be better.

Thanks for your great imput McCall on McCartney III.
I'm still listening to the full album but only once a day first thing in the morning. I'm just going on Paul's website and clicking on the All News portion and dropping down to December 17 when you can click down on the Buy/Stream tab of McCartney III. I then go to Spotify where recently I've been able to listen to the whole album without interruption or commercials. Thank God for Spotify.
I find it very interesting comparing my experience with Deep Deep Feeling to yours. Initially, like you, it was my least favorite track on McCartney III. But as I have fully digested McCartney III, my opinion has changed dramatically. Initially on the 2 long tracks, I thought that I liked Deep Down "better" than Deep Deep Feeling. But now I feel that "Deep Down" is much more repetitious and monotonous than Deep Deep Feeling. I now find that the latter song had far more changes (both vocally/lyric wise and musically) than Deep Down. Once I got into Deep Deep Feeling, I started to love the piano chords at around the 2:25 - 2:50 mark simultaneous to the Earth,Wind and Fire like vocals in the "so intense the joy of living, so immense the thrill of living" parts. Further on, I began loving the electric guitar parts followed by Paul's bass guitar coupled with his intense "drum parts". Vocally, this is when Paul sings the "Sometimes I wish it would stay, sometimes I wish it would go away" parts. I even like the "post" false ending when Paul changes to his acoustic guitar and brings back the intro vocal parts "When you love someone so much, you feel your heart's going to burst" parts. Now I think Deep Deep Feeling is one of the best songs on McCartney III. Now when I listen, it doesn't seem long at all. But you have get into the full song, close your eyes and just listen to the music.
Conversely, I would love to hear the full band's "live"treatment to Deep Down especially utilizing the added "horn players. While the album track becomes a little monotonous, I think the live version could potentially be a great "soul" track with the live horns and the Band's back-up vocals. Instead of an almost 6 minute track on the studo album, it could be more of a great 3-4 minute soul track. I can hear the Band singing the "Get deep down" parts.
The reason I'm hoping that Paul follows up McCartney IIi with a "live" full Band Concert is that I don't feel the pressure is on Paul. He can just enjoy himself which is where Paul generally does best. For the most part, he just needs his Band to follow his lead on McCartney III. I still think on the whole, McCartney III it is a brilliant album
At this point I agree with your Tier 1 and Tier 2 summary for the most part but I do love Slidin and Deep Deep Feeling now. I would love to also hear the full Band's "live" treatment of all the songs. As I said, the part where McCartney III really peaks to me is at track 6 (Deep Deep Feeling) followed by the next 3 tracks (Slidin, The Kiss of Venus and Seize the Day). I would absolutely love to hear all those tracks in a "live" concert. How exciting would it be to hear "The Kiss of Venus" and "When Winter Comes" in the acoustical part of the show.
Thanks again for teriffic imput.

I couldn't agree more McCall. I think Paul's latest stuff and last 3 albums specifically have been fantastic.

I love Paul... as I love John... I cannot split their music..... I love them both equally (and I love George's contributions)...
But I listened to McCartney 3 again after a break...
and it just doesn't do it for me...
Doesn't mean I don't love Paul.... it's just this is the first new album of Paul's I've listened to over almost 40 years that I've never grabbed on to.
Some good songs, but just doesn't do it for me.

Sorry you're not liking McCartney III as much as Yankeefan, Kestrel and I do. Just curious...are you listening to McCartney III with Headphones. I found that I could hear the various instruments that Paul plays a lot better using headphones and it gave me a greater appreciation of the songs/album.
I just put a "Best of McCartney Post Beatles" list thread up this morning. I had 3 McCartney III songs on it (Seize the Day, The Kiss of Venus and When Winter Comes) on my best 25 Paul song list and Yankeefan had 2 on his best 20 list (Slidin and Find My Way). I believe they are all great songs. My hope before McCartney III was released that he would have at least 5 very good to great songs on his new album and in my opinion, he did it with those 5. Just my opinion.
Paul is easily my favorite Beatle so I like his Post Beatle discography as much as I like his Beatle stuff.
