What a load of crap.
Tell us how you REALLY feel toris!
I was perhaps a little harsh....
Some here would agree, but not me and Yankeefan.

Exactly, this album has not even been out three months yet !!
And maybe by doing this it will get him more exposure with the other artists fans.
Who very likely will buy "McCartney III Imagined" and not "McCartney III" - lol
You don't think McCartney is getting a cut of this?
Of couse he is getting a cut, I was talking about sales figures of his album. The "Imagined" album will not help sales figures of the "McCartney III" album IMO.

LOL. I hate every bit of this Nancy. This is not some album 20 years old and major artists are doing cover versions of these songs. It is a album that is fairly new and these artists are not exactly household names in music. It saddens me that Paul signed on to this being done, it is almost like he thinks he needs other artists to make his album more popular.

" I loved Earth Wind and Fire's cover of "Got to Get You Into My Life" because it was different and done in their vocal and music style. But to me, they're cover was still the complete Paul song. As I said, I could be wrong about Dominic Fike's talent but I'm already looking forward to the next artist on tap. "
BJ, the major differences are the "Earth Wind And Fire" cover was not done three months after "Revolver" came out and they are in the "Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame" and not an artist with 2 albums to their name.

Paul has often recounted that he was thrilled when Jimi Hendrix covered Sgt Pepper's the same weekend it was released. Hmmm, not sure if Jimi even had his first album out by this time.

Hey Yankeefan...I was a little harsh on this "The Kiss of Venus" cover too. Hearing it a couple more times, I can see that the artist Dominic Fike is giving the song a more R&B spin. The part where he makes up his own lyrics (the I read the papers part) sort of reminds me of the Bonnie Raitt song when he sings the "People talking"part.
I understand your point about these artists doing covers of an album that is only 3 months old. It is crazy but I think Paul's point of view is that commercial radio has basically "ignored" the songs on McCartney III after receiving great reviews. I think Paul is probably thinking that these relatively unknown artists singing their intepretations of McCartney III will get more younger people listeining to the various tracks. While this 1st video is different, it's already getting as many "hits" as Paul's original version of "The Kiss of Venus" has done on the Internet. While I'm not in love with this particular cover for the reasons I already gave, I am looking forward to hearing a couple more of the covers.

Bottom line is bottom line. MPL & Capitol (or whoever) are making money. As they sang...Money, that's what I want.

Big difference, Jimi was playing at a small theater and not releasing his cover commercially to the public.

Speaking of "hits" on the new video...he is up to 468,000 hits. Paul's lyric video is at 166,000. I don't know this kid but it apparently is bringing attention to Paul & his music & his writing abilities. Even if it only opens a few eyes of a new generation...all is good. AND maybe that's why Paul's team released this one 1st. Look, we're all even discussing it... again!

BJ, I sincerly doubt young people listening to this cover version is going to help the sales of "McCartney III" or get young people interested in his music. Paul did songs with Kanye and Rhianna, did that suddenly translate into young people wanting to hear Paul McCartney music, think the answer is no. Like I said in reply to Nancy, it saddens me to think that Paul believes he has to resort to having other artists do cover version of his songs to make them popular.

Maybe it is me but I would rather open the eyes of younger people about Paul McCartney music by playing them the music written and performed by Paul McCartney. To each their own -lol

Totally agree!
Same here.
I've never heard of most of those artists anyway. Damon I know of though....I once helped his mum to carry a sink across her studio !!
I was under the impression that Paul selected the artists he wanted for the project. I like Idris Elba a lot. (When I first saw him on "The Wire," as a drug lord in Baltimore, I just assumed he was an American actor...but then on "Luther," he, being British, was really impressive. Hearing his British accent was great! It always seems the Brits can master our American accent easier/better than we can their's.) But I have no idea whether he can sing or not....but will soon find out....on "When Winter Comes."

I don't know why I am defending this artist & his cover but I had to respond to your comment. Back when Jimi did it there was no internet or spotify! lol And he was not asked by Paul to do it. Who would refuse Paul and/or his people?

Hey Beatles4ever... I've become a "late"Idris Elba fan too. I've liked him a lot in "The Mountain Between Us" with Kate Winslet as well as some other movies. I have also seen quite a few episodes of Luther (The British Drama/Crime series. Man is he intense in that role.
Apparently he is yet another one of these actors whose other love is "music". I think that the McCartney III cover he's doing is actually "Long Tailed Winter Bird" (the opening track) but he's listed as a actor/singer/rapper/songwriter/DJ on Wikipedia.

I have to say that I'm looking forward to hearing some of the other covers on McCartney III Imagined. I don't keep up with "young artists" nearly as much as I should but Phoebe Bridgers is getting a lot of praise from none other than Elton John. Looking forward to Phoebe's take on Paul's "Seize the Day" easily one of the best songs on McCartney III.
While Beck's obviously been around for a long time, his take on "Find My Way" should also be very interesting.

First, I have not knocked the artist or his version of "The Kiss Of Venus". I just personally prefer the original song to any cover especially when the original is only a few months old. Like I said two times already, I think it is sad when somebody like Paul thinks he needs other artists to do songs of his very recent album to promote it. I did mention that usually when songs are covered and they are done by more famous people than this artist they IMO gets more attention. What would get more attention to a song, somebody like John Legend for example doing "The Kiss Of Venus" or the artist who just did the cover. Ok "Oobu24", I am done and let's just agree to disagree.

I would rather listen to young artists own material than hearing them cover a recent McCartney album. People like James Bay, Ed Sheeran, Sarah Bareilles or a group like "Fleet Foxes" are "younger" artists I enjoy. I can even handle a few Taylor Swift songs, depends on the song -lol.

I did not say anybody said I knocked someone. I pointed out I did not "knock" the artist or the cover version to show I just don't like cover versions being recorded of an album not even out three months yet and it does not matter who is covering a particualr song. You could have had somebody like Adele do a song and I still would have not liked the idea. It is just my personal opinion that McCartney being all for this is sending a message that his album needs other artists to "seize the day" for this album. (pun intended). Once again, if people want to enjoy and buy "McCartney III Imagined" go for it. It is just not my "cup of tea" and I stand by my opinion.
