McCartney 3?

I agree with those saying they'd rather Paul stop the touring and focus on recording in the studio, it's his studio albums that are the most important to me. I was worried that New might be his last album, then that Egypt Station might be last, and now that McCartnet 3 might be last. I love all of them so the more the better as far as I'm concerned, especially since the quality of the albums is not dropping off at all.
Of the three most recent albums I think Egypt Station is the best (and one of the best of all Paul's albums) with New and McCartney 3 about tied just behind it.
I couldn't agree more McCall. I think Paul's latest stuff and last 3 albums specifically have been fantastic.

I love Paul... as I love John... I cannot split their music..... I love them both equally (and I love George's contributions)...
But I listened to McCartney 3 again after a break...
and it just doesn't do it for me...
Doesn't mean I don't love Paul.... it's just this is the first new album of Paul's I've listened to over almost 40 years that I've never grabbed on to.
Some good songs, but just doesn't do it for me.

Sorry you're not liking McCartney III as much as Yankeefan, Kestrel and I do. Just curious...are you listening to McCartney III with Headphones. I found that I could hear the various instruments that Paul plays a lot better using headphones and it gave me a greater appreciation of the songs/album.
I just put a "Best of McCartney Post Beatles" list thread up this morning. I had 3 McCartney III songs on it (Seize the Day, The Kiss of Venus and When Winter Comes) on my best 25 Paul song list and Yankeefan had 2 on his best 20 list (Slidin and Find My Way). I believe they are all great songs. My hope before McCartney III was released that he would have at least 5 very good to great songs on his new album and in my opinion, he did it with those 5. Just my opinion.
Paul is easily my favorite Beatle so I like his Post Beatle discography as much as I like his Beatle stuff.

Yeah, I have to agree, sadly. The only one I really love is When Winter Comes. And that was recorded in 1992!

Mate, not about whether I am hearing it with headphones or not... but I am... I just don't particularly like the "feel" of the album...
Doesn't matter. Lots of albums and songs I love that others do not... and vice-versa...
At the end of the day, we all love Paul!

That's the one that I don't like. It doesn't sound the same as the others because it's older.

BJ, I wish everyone liked it as much as us but to each their own. Honestly, I care mostly about critical acclaim of his new albums than most opinions on this board. The critical acclaim is what will determine his legacy many years from now, will he be just seen as "Beatle Paul" or will he also be recognized as a great solo artist. The reviews of the solo albums is what will be there historically, not our opinion -lol. Two songs that I think are the biggest pieces of garbage McCartney ever recorded (Bip Bop, Temporary Secretary) are liked by some people on this board. It just shows that everybody has different taste.

Great point Yankeefan and yes the critical acclaim for McCartney III was very good. I'm still hoping that Paul decides in the future to do a "special smaller scale show" with his full Band when they can. The other thing I hope is that the large majority of songs would be from his latter era albums like McCartney III, Egypt Station, New, Memory Almost Full and Chaos and Creation. He has enough good to great songs from those albums to do only songs they've never played on tour before. I think he can do it if he puts his mind to it and I think the Band would be in total favor. What a show that could be!! And I think the McCartney III songs would sound different (and maybe even better) with the full band playing their instruments and providing their added vocals. I know it's a long shot but we can only hope.
Talk later!

Ha! Yep, I'm one who likes Temporary Secretary.... I didn't when I first heard it those decades ago... I found it confusing... didn't like the "electronics"... but a few years later after I heard it, it really grew on me... and now, I love listening to it.
But, correct, different tastes for all!

I like Temporary Secretary too! But I also like most of Mac3. Different strokes for different folks.

I understand your point Oobu to a degree. On the other hand, I love "When Winter Comes" because I love the chorus in the song and I think it's a terrific closer bringing the album back full circle. I just had added the song in my updated Top 25 Paul Solo song list. Yes the track sounds different vocally than the others because the song is older (from 1992) but Paul places it wisely as the last song. It's not as though you hear "When Winter Comes" in the beginning or middle of the tracklist.
The best part of McCartney III, in my opinion, is track 6 (Deep Deep Feeling) followed by 3 brilliant tracks (Slidin, The Kiss of Venus and Seize the Day). I understand any fan not liking Deep Deep Feeling or Deep Down (the 2 long and jam-like tracks) but those 3 tracks in my opinion are very Beatleque or Wingish with great middle's or bridges.

The track sounding different vocally is not the problem for me. It sounds like a kid's song. I just don't care for it.

I believe BJ we will see some shows and smaller tours mid-summer early fall. It seems like the US for the most part will be totally vaccinated by June/July. I don't see any artist doing a world tour type of thing but maybe 10-15 shows in their home country or place like the US. I also think shows will not be held in sports stadiums and artists will stick to outdoor venues or small clubs. Paul still seems to want to perform live so it will be interesting what direction he would take. Is he still able to do a 2 1/2 hr show since he will be 79 in a couple of months? Personally, I think he would be able to do a "killer" show like the one you proposed at different locations in the UK. Shorter show, less travel and doing newer songs may invigorate him and the band. My personal opinion which I stated before is that if he does tour, he will do the usual show and the only real difference will be plugging in some "McCartney III" songs which IMO would probably replace the "Egypt Station" songs. I guess we will see what happens in a few months.

Sadly I agree with your last point. Probably a typical tour show with 3-4 songs from McCartney III and the rest being Beatles and his 70 hits/Wings. We can certainly hope that Paul changes direction in his "live" shows but like you I doubt it. After we did our latest Best McCartney Solo songs on Maccaboard, they have the opportunity to do an all-Solo show from his recent albums with a great setlist of "songs never being done before on tour". He's got a great band who can help him greatly on the vocals. I know, I'm a dreamer.

No problem Oobu. Glad you like McCartney III as a whole.
