Thanks for that, Nancy, it's a reasonable affordable cost for what sounds like a truly outstanding John Lennon offering. He certainly deserves this high quality rollout for his best songs.  "How Do You Sleep" is included--ouch ! But it IS a very striking song pleasing to the ears, despite its dodgy subject matter (!).  The song "Gimme Some Truth" is a great protest song that really grabs you and sounds very "John."  It especially addresses these dire days with a pathological liar in the highest office in the U.S. I'm glad they dubbed the collection that name.

They say that truth is the first casualty of war, and that's certainly true in this war against an unseen enemy. Over here in the U.K. it's a bit difficult getting at the truth, with confusion and incompetence in the corridors of power. John's song was never more apt.

Gee that last bit sounds familiar!

Somebody said John already had a compilation or something out called Gimme Some Truth so they should have named this one Instant Karma. Has anyone heard this other GST?

Not sure about "Mother" and "Cold Turkey"...listening to the screaming.  I may have to delete them.  I love both songs  right up until John starts wailing and moaning.  I realize it's his art and it's what he wanted to say.  But.......

I'm disappointed that "You Are Here" didn't make the cut.

Te new mixes are spectacular.  Everything sounds rich and full.  I was not aware of I Know (I Know).  Not sure how I missed it.  I could have done without Angela.  Don't think Miss Davis was worth all the attention then....or now.  I always thought Whatever Gets You Thru The Night sounded tinny and John seemed to be singing backup to Elton John....maybe because in 1974 Elton was the bigger star and they made him the prominent vocalist.  Now, it all sounds much better to me and John's vocals sound more up-front.  He's now singing lead.  All in all, nice group of songs which all sound great.

They are far more than remastered.  They are remixed using the original analog tapes.  Creates a much richer sound.

Actually, I have read many times that John said he really didn't feel that way about Paul in "How Do You Sleep?"  He just needed a song.  While I Iove the mixes, BeatleFan Mag points out that while John's voice has been moved up in this edtion of his songs, (thank God for that on "Whateve Gets You Thru The Night," where the original made John nearly inaudible.  He was singing backup to Elton John.  Now he gets to sing lead!!!  laugh) all of the reverb John so loved has been  largely removed, as has some backup vocals and big drums here and there...particularly on the "Double Fantasy" songs.  Sean made all those decisions.
