MCCARTNEY III IMAGINED
-
"At this point in his great career (Beatles, Wings and Solo) I just hope he could get a true "Album of the Year" WIN. He came close with Chaos, Tug of War and Flaming Pie but he never has actually won an "Album of the Year". 2022 might just be his best chance. "
Let's face it BJ, this is his last shot at possible Grammy award and even that is quite doubtful sadly. Albums released late in the prior year tend to be forgotten come time for voting for Grammy nominations. I don't think artists doing cover version of his songs is going to really help McCartney get votes and keep his album in their memory. You would like to think he might be a sentimental favorite because by the time they vote he will be 79 and the clock is definitely ticking to honor him. I thought "Egypt Station" would actually get some nominations and it did not so I am quite pessimistic about "McCartney III". If there was ever a album I thought he might win the award it was CHAOS. It was a critical hit, very somber/deep and had a highly thought of producer. Not going to discredit U2 for their win, it was just a shame that McCartney lost. BTW - McCartney did a "killer" performance that year of "Fine Line" and "Helter Skelter" at the award ceremony that year !!
"EOB's version is very true to Paul's original except at a faster pace and I love the guitar solo's on both versions. The market for "Slidin" is more targeted to "rock" radio formats than new music or Top 40 formats. There's at least one "rock" radio startion in every market. I'm not an expert but I think the success ratio of getting airplay on specific "rock" station is better than competing against all the new music released from all genres."
I think by now people on this board know I am not interested in these cover versions and will once again say it is a shame that MPL seems to think other artists need to promote "McCcartney III" as much as Paul McCartney. Even if their cover versions get played on the radio, I think the artist doing the song will get more publicity than Paul McCartney.
"Personally, I think that Paul's version of Slidin is the 2nd best song on McCartney III after "Seize the Day". After those 2, I think the next best songs on McCartney III are, in my opinion, toss-ups between "The Kiss of Venus", "Find My Way" and "When Winter Comes".
No major disagreement with you, I just like "Find My Way" a bit more than you and it might be my favorite with "Slidn" a close second. I think "Find My Way" is pop/rock perfection and absolutely love the official video.

I have to say that I like both versions of "Slidin" about equally. I was singing "Slidin" to myself during my bike ride this morning.

I wonder if MPL made a slight mistake of not putting out EOB's remix/cover of "Slidin" first rather than the Beck and/or Dominic Fike covers. EOB's version is very true to Paul's original except at a faster pace and I love the guitar solo's on both versions. The market for "Slidin" is more targeted to "rock" radio formats than new music or Top 40 formats. There's at least one "rock" radio startion in every market. I'm not really concerned if McCartney III Imagine does well in the charts. My hope is that at least one of the tracks get sufficient airplay to help Paul's teriffic album (albeit short lived) continues to hang around long enough to help him get Grammy nominations for McCartney III. At this point in his great career (Beatles, Wings and Solo) I just hope he could get a true "Album of the Year" WIN. He came close with Chaos, Tug of War and Flaming Pie but he never has actually won an "Album of the Year". 2022 might just be his best chance.
I want some of whatever it is you're smoking!

Ditto!!! Sad to say, the chance of Paul ever winning an Album of the Year is sliim to none. Chaos may or may not have come close. Fact is, it didn't even win best Pop Vocal Album, a category it was also nominated in, and one that it should have been a sure bet. He lost to Kelly Clarkson. She's a good singer, but to beat Paul? The writing was on the wall. In large letters!

TOW - Lost to Toto (Toto IV)
Flaming Pie - Lost to Bob Dylan ( Time Out Of Mind)
CHAOS - Lost to U2 ( How To Dismantle An Automic Bomb)

It seems the high fidelity download will be available before the album! Have to get a computer so I can check it out!

Just listened to it on Spotify in UK. Liked all the tracks except 'Find My Way (feat Beck). Got it on repeat on the nightshift.

Just listened to a bunch of the McCartney III Imagined tracks that I hadn't heard previously.
Just listened once or twice, but here are my likes and dislikes so far:
LIkes
When Winter Comes (Anderson Paak Remix) - Surprised how much I liked this one
Seize the Day (Phoebe Bridgers) - Don't know much about Phoebe but I love her vocals on this cover)
Wonen and Wives (St. Vincent Remix) - Very trippy and psychedelic, but I liked this one on 1st listen
Lavortory Lil (Josh Homme) - Another one that surpised me; really liked this one with great guitars)
Slidin (EOB Remix) Heard this one over the last week and like Ed Obrien's faster version)
Dislikes
Deep Deep Feeling (RDN Remix) - let me warn Yankeefan; this 11 minuted jam mixes in a bit of Temporary Secretary in the groove. Didn't like it upon first listen but I'm sure some might.

Have to say that the Lavortory Lil song featuring Josh Homme is really good. Josh Homme to me soiunds like Jim Morrison and the track has that "Doors" feeling. AS good as Paul's original to my ears.

BJ, I think I will pass on even attempting to listen to this song. Adding bit of "Temporary Secretary" which I despise and making the song close to 3 minutes longer makes it a no brainer to ignore. I a sorry but I am not really into other artists doing "McCartney III" songs. Like I said several times, I prefer to listen to Paul McCartney sing and play his songs. To each their own. On a side note to you, see "Take It Away" thread and my most recent post to it. There will be episode for "McCartney III" in the near future - yeah !!

Some additonal comments:
Anderson Paak's version of "When Winter Comes"- LOve the piano intro. Sounds like Elton John playing the piano. They keep Paul'great vocals and I like this version a lot.
Khruangbin remix of Pretty Boys - Have to say the bass and drums are fantastic on this one along with its psychodelic flavors. Another potential gem

Thanks Yankeefan. Please keep us up to date when the "Take It Away Podcast" featuring their review of McCartney III airs. Would love to hear it!

Thanks so much Oobu. Still think that Josh Homme sounds like Jim Morrison and gives this track a "Doors" feel.
Do me a favor and if you have time...can you post a couple more IMagined tracks like:
Seize the Day with Phoebe Bridgers
When Winter Comes with Anderson Paak
Women and Wives with St. Vincent
I like all of these. There are some I'm not crazy about but these 3 are all good in my opinion.

I don't care for either verson of When Winter Comes. Sounds very dated to me.
Seize The Day (Visualizer) ft. Phoebe Bridgers
When Winter Comes (Anderson .Paak Remix / Visualizer)
St. Vincent - Women And Wives (St. Vincent Remix / Visualizer)
