Wings 50th Anniversary
-
I think Wings absolutely belongs in the R and R Hall of Fame. At the same time though I agree that Wings was mostly Paul and I don't make much of a distinction between Wings vs Paul Solo. Maybe they could change Paul's solo HOF entry to call it something like "Paul McCartney/Wings". That way Wings could be officially included as a part of Paul's solo career.

Yankeefan, please don't get bent out of shape. I know it's a common mistake, but it's Jimmy McCulloch:

and Henry McCullough:

(both fantastic Wings lead guitarists, imo)
P.S. Thanks for the support BJ!
Thank you. I always just assumed they spelled their last names the same: McCullough. When I think of Henry, the one song that comes to mind is: "My Love." He did a very good solo guitar. Nothing else really comes to mind. Wasn't his stint with the band a short one? Jimmy? Many more good songs, including his great guiar work on "Junior's Farm," among others, on more albums than Henry played on. Too bad he died so young. One lead guitarist Paul had was from the Pretenders, wasn't he? Can't think on his name. Robbie something.... Remember him as being of the 1989-90 Wings Tour. Saw that concert in Atlanta. Their guiar duel on "The End" was the first time I heard Paul include that....and, for me, it was the best version of the many he has done since. It was more faithful to how each Beatle (first Paul, then George, then John) played his solo parts. You knew exactly which Beatle was playing which bit. And I loved how they shoved/pushed against each other while playing it. I don't mean the Beatles!

You're welcome! Henry was 72, almost 73, when he died, which the older I get (I will be 66 tomorrow!) seems young! He was with Wings for 2 years and also played on Hi, Hi, Hi and Live and Let Die.

Jimmy was WAY too young (26) when he died of a morphine and alcohol overdose in 1979.
I saw Wings in Atlanta several times, including 1990 as you can see at the bottom of my post!

Wow! I had no idea Henry had such a varied, lengthy and intersting careet....and that he played on Hi Hi Hi and Live and Let Die. Oh, and Happy Birthday! Yes, as one gets older, ages that once seemed old.....don't seem to be when one reaches them. I've noticed that too!!!! And it's not just wishful thinking!!! I'm sure of it!! They even sound younger when I say them! (I mean when I was 18, being 25 seemed sooooo old. Then 30! Can't trust someone 30 or older!!!! 40 was the last straw. Being 40 is still being a kid!!! )

Yeah, I was just thinking about the band he had in 1990 & 1993 with Robbie and Hamish. Senior moment! Give me a break, I'm 66 today!

Oh dear, so what are you going to be like when your 96? John Lennon was the Wings drummer in 1999?
Happy birthday, Nancy.

Thanks - I did! My daughter got me the John Lennon Plastic Ono Band deluxe set! Mom got me the CD single Real Love/Baby's In Black with color sleeve of the Beatles from 1965 (originally released in 2007), Elvis: The 1968 Comeback Special (3 disc deluxe edition), two nightshirts and a top. I got a phone call from my son who is fantastic buying me Beatles-related Christmas presents, but never gets me anything for my birthday. Well, that's okay, he makes up for it in other ways.
This is what my son created for me for Christmas 2020:

I respect Bruce Dickinson's view of the Hall. (google if interested). Paul & the Beatles are there & that's fine. As far as Wings well they had a number of personnel changes throughout their short career which may prevent them from getting voted in.& Denny & Paul were the main talented musicians but perhaps Denny will get in someday. Although I'm not a fan of the album BTTE; guartarist Laurence Juber has had a successful career; too bad the stars weren't aligned for him when Wings were taking off. Having said all that if Jay-Z can get voted into the Mausoleum Wings should be there but that's for the Americans to decide.

Denny was inducted into the hall of fame in 2018 as a member of the Moody Blues. And he was only with them for a couple of years which seems a touch ironic.

He was included probably because he sang lead on "Go Now" which I believe was their first hit.

Hey Beatles4Ever..Great discussions .I started appreciating Henry far more when Paul came out with the Archive Editions of Red Rose Speedway and Wildlife in 2018. The 2 CD special package of Red Rose Speedway was sold at Target. Besides the original remastered Red Rose Speedway CD, it also included the extra CD that had so many songs that Henry played on while he was a member of Wings. On top of his great Solo Guitar on "My Love" that you mentioned, Henry played superb "bluesy" guitar on songs like "The Mess", "Best Friend", "1882" "Live and Let Die" and "Hi Hi Hi". Another one that he played great on was the single "Give Ireland Back to the Irish" which was promptly banned from radio play. Jimmy was also a great guitarist. i couldn't believe his "live" performances on the Wings Over America tour. He replicated Henry's "My Love" guitar solo perfectly on that tour. Like you, I love Jimmy's guitar work on Junior's Farm.

Denny was also a founder member of the Moody Blues, who were basically his group to begin with.
A similar situation arose when Syd Barrett was added to the Hall of Fame as part of Pink Floyd, despite only being with them for a year when they were releasing records.
