"2001-2010 Post Beatles' Paul McCartney New Proposed Compilation
(Arguably Paul's Best Post Beatles' Decade)"
I love every song listed and glad you included some lesser known favorites of mine "About You"(Driving Rain) and "Dance Til We're High" (Electric Arguments). I think this is his best post Beatle decade and understand it is a matter of taste. Just curious if you would use any live recordings of any of these songs?

Great list! I'm glad to see Your Way included, I love that song but it doesn't seem to get much recognition.
I'd also want to include Dance Tonight. I know not everyone likes it, but I think it's beautiful.

Thanks Yankeefan. There are a few good "live" versions where you could easily substitute. The first track, Lonely Road, he did on his Driving Rain tour and that was just as good as the studio imo. He also did "How Kind of You" a few times and as you know, he did "That was Me" and "House of Wax" at a few shows as well. And he did "Jenny Wren" on the Chaos tour. I like some of the B-sides I've included and the Bonus Track on the Japanese Edition..."She is So Beautiful". I also really like "Why So Blue" that was a bonus track on the subsequent Memory Almost Full CD. All in all, I have to agree with you that the 2001-2010 Decade is arguably the best one.

Yea McCall..."Your Way" is a great hidden gem. I always liked it too and one of the best songs on Driving Rain imo. Dance Tonight was also on my original list. I only dropped it because Paul played it a lot on his tours. I like the song too but once I got up to like 23 songs, I felt that I needed to make some cuts. How about those B-Sides and Bonus tracks?

BJ, I love the B side "Summer Of 59". Short uptempo song that is just puts me in a good mood -lol.

As far as bonus tracks, I love Why So Blue. IMO, it is one of Paul's very best songs.

BJ Conlee: Your 2001-2010 track listing is superb.
Your choices would be almost exact to mine. You did well mixing in some B sides as well.
He has a live verison of "That Was Me" live from the Olympia in Paris and that version is wonderful (though Brian is playing the great bass line from that song).
There a few songs that might swap in. I love "See Your Sunshine" on MAF (the middle bit is wonderful). Then from Electric Arguments, I really like "Two Magpies" (but I would definitely include the three songs that you did). From the Chaos sessions, I love the B-side of "Fine Line" --"Growing Up While Falling Down."
With Chaos, MAF, and Electric Arguments, Paul delivered three great albums between 2005 and 2008. Just as I said that the 1980s were underrated for Paul when you look at the totality of his output, I am not sure that outside of his most loyal fans, most people know that perhaps Paul did his best post-Beatle work between 2001 and 2010. That is remarkable and in the next decade, you will have songs from New, Egypt Station, and McCartney 2 which were three solid to very good albums. I do think that you see this reflected in critical music sites like allmusic.com as that website always discusses Paul's late career resurgence. But then there are too many people who think that Paul has not done anything great since BOR and that is so, so, wrong.

BJ, this exercise of yours is proving one thing... Paul is excellent across all decades!
It inspired me to put on my headphones and listen to Driving Rain again.
From Driving Rain, I just have to have "I Do".... and if not for the (let's say) ordinary lyrics, the title track....
The first minute of From A Lover to a Friend was so promising - before it gave way to too many "laah, laaahs".
And I absolutely had no liking of Freedom when I first heard it.... tripe.... oddly enough, again through this exercise of yours, I listened to it again... Freedom... it's not as bad as I remembered.... I almost kind of liked it.
Heather could've been a great song if it veered away from the instrumental aspect.
-
ps. I never really liked Electric Arguments.... maybe I need to give it another listen.
Chaos... what an album... but I would add Friends to Go to your list... and Anyway... even if it means striking off Riding to Vanity Fair.
Memory Almost Full - I need Vintage Clothes. Strike off House of Wax. For me, that's one of Paul's worse.
-
I was thinking as I finished off my initial tracklist for the 2001 to 2010 Decade that maybe Paul would need 2 Discs for this period just like we had for the 70's and 80's. I'm certainly not an expert on CD technology. I had always thought that around 20 tracks would be the maximum. Malybe someone knows more than I do.
Anyway based on the feedback...maybe we need 2 Discs. I know I had to cut several songs I initially wanted and you guys really confirmed that to me. From Memory Almost Full I love certain songs like "See Your Sunshine, Vintage Clothes and The End of the End. And of course "Dance Tonight" is always a good choice. Looking at Driving Rain, you could easily add songs like "I Do, Tiny Bubble, She's Given Up Talking and Back in the Sunshine Again". Finally, for Paul's arguably best Solo album (Chaos and Creation), you could add "At the Mercy, Friends to Go and Anyway". Those additions alone would probably make a 2nd disc totalling around 32 to 34 songs. I didn't even mention Electric Arguments where I only listed 3 tracks. Someone mentioned Two Magpies but you also have other good songs like "Traveling Light, Highway and Nothing Too Much" (the opening track).
Thanks to all for the imput. I'm pretty sure that the younger demographic wouldn't buy a Compilation like I'm suggesting but I think the older generations (and Paul fans like us) would like something like this especially for all the deep cuts, live versions, Bonus Tracks/B-Sides and last but not least, the unreleased stuff. I would think that Paul himself would have access to demo's and the like that I haven't even listed.

It is time more than the amount of tracks you can have on a CD. I think you are pushing it if you have more than 70 minutes.

For some reason I totally forgot to mention Traveling Light, that one definitely needs to be included! Two Magpies is great too.
When you're limited by run time on a cd, it's very hard to pick, I end up wanting to include way too many songs!

Standard CDs have a diameter of 120 millimetres (4.7 in) and are designed to hold up to 74 minutes of uncompressed stereo digital audio or about 650 MB of data. Capacity is routinely extended to 80 minutes and 700 MB by arranging more data closely on the same sized disc.

Looking at Paul's last Compilation, Pure McCartney, it was released on June 10, 2016. Next month it will be 5 years old. Assuming that Paul and EMI used the latest CD technology at that time, the Pure McCartney Standard 2 Disc package had the following:
Disc 1 - 19 Tracks with total length 1:17 and 21 Secouds
Disc 2 - 20 Tracks with total length 1:12 and 40 Secouds
Based on this exercise of a "proposed and new" Paul McCartney Post Beatles Compilation By Decade, I think the package would need 2 Discs per Decade just to have a minimally Complete New Compilation.. My first 2 Decades (70's and 80's) already had 2 Discs each but I think the subsequent Decades need 2 Discs Each Also. I will revise my 90's and 2001-2010 Decades with 2 Discs.

I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with the Revised 2 Disc Package for the 2001-2010 Decade above. What a great Decade and having the 2nd Disc makes it very well rounded imo. One Disc has 18 tracks and the other has 19. Love all of your suggestions and I think I've added almost all of them. As we have said, you can quibble about a selection or omission of 1 or 2 tracks but overall I think it's very good. LIke the B-Sides and Bonus tracks in particular.
-
As good as the 2001-2010 Decade was, I think the final Decade in Paul's fantastic Post Beatles' Career is just as good. I'm including McCartney 3 in this Decade since it came out December 18, 2020. Other great later period Paul Solo albums include Egypt Station and New.
