Good stuff, BJ.... but come on.... You didn't include "It's Not True"..... one of my absolute faves of the day.
Keep Under Cover somewhere?
The Man?
Great points Toris. You can no doubt quibble over a few of these selections. "It's Not True" is a good song as is "Keep Under Cover". I thought I included enough tracks from Pipes of Peace. But you get my idea on this package.
"The Man" (the Paul/Michael collaboration was too smalltzy for my taste.)
The Man is my guilty pleasure.... brilliantly uplifting!
I stand behind it.... along with Ebony and Ivory.... and Say, Say, Say.
Girlfriend, of course, another guilty pleasure. I love it.

I love your convictions Toris. I also like Ebony and Ivory. It got way overplayed on Radio back in the day. Same with Say Say Say. But when you hear them now occassionally, there both good songs.

BJ... you and I will have to differ...Cos I love the Beatles Anthology...and the John anthology....and I love different versions of all the songs, at their rawest, building into the songs we know as their "released" version. I love alternate takes. I love raw takes.
I have far more interest in listening to that than a release of songs I largely already own.
The new release from John is awesome. 120 songs... apart from the jams, most of them are centred on the 11-track album. All different versions. Brilliant.
That's what I want from Paul.
From every one of his albums. That'd make me happy.
Hey Toris. Thanks for your imput. Yes, we will have to agree to disagree. I bought all the Beatles' Anthology Double Cd's. Problem is that I liked Anthology 1 a bit for a few listens especially hearing some of Paul's early stuff he wrote for other artists but I found that I never went back to these "packages" especiallly the way they did them. In Anthology 2 (the 2nd Disc) they had 3 tracks for Strawberry Fields Forever alone. I realize that tastes differ and music is very subjective but just give me the best studio version or if you're looking at "live" renditions, just give me the best "live" one. It's just me but I'm not interested in 3 or 4 takes of the same song.
As far as my 70's and 80's Lists (the best Paul tracks from both Decades)...you have a much better record collection than I do. A CD like Pipes of Peace or Press to Play that I bought like 20 years ago...I have no idea where they are now. I moved several times in my 30's and 40's. And do you own all the B-sides and Unreleased songs I have listed. That is why I would want this type of package. It's for songs I would love hear and it's for the convenience that a package like this would bring to a fan like me.
I have to confess that I'm far more of a Paul fan than the other Beatles. All of them were extremely talented but I easily like Paul the best.

^ Always amuses me when people say "I have no idea where they are now." I've moved numerous times in my life but each time I put all my Beatles albums together in chronological order, and the same with the solo albums by Paul, John, George and Ringo. And all the other artists too have all their albums together in order - Elvis, The Moody Blues, Badfinger, Tom Jones, etc. Same with CDs.

Some things are more important to one person than to others... OR some people have so much stuff they give up on trying to organize it.

You know my friend Jennifer you met in Chicago at the Fest For Beatles Fans? She probably has 3 times more Beatles-related stuff than I have, but if I ask her, do you have such-and-such, she always knows if she does and where it is! She's truly amazing. I finally started a binder to catalog all my Beatles books A-Z. I have a bunch I need to add that I haven't read yet. When I was younger I catalogued ALL my albums and 45s, but lost track somewhere in the 1990s! Probably too busy taking care of twin toddlers!

The 80's (2nd Half)
Disc 2 (From Press to Play through Flowers in the Dirt)
Final (I added a 23rd song...Only Love Remains; see at the bottom)
1. Stranglehold - I always liked this Paul-Eric Stewart collaboration. Good opener to the Press to Play album
2. Good Times Coming / Feel the Sun - 2 songs mixed into 1. A "feel good" sunny type song that I also always liked.
3. Footprints - One of the real hidden gems on Press to Play imo. One of the album's best songs and great lyrics
4. Once upon a Long Ago - "Single"for the Compilation Album "All the Best" and Produced by Phil Ramone. It was released in Mid-Novermber of 1978 and had a good Christmas feel. Beautiful song.
5. Back on My Feet - B-Side to Once Upon a Long Ago. One of the early collaborations between Paul and Elvid Costello. Paul had most of the song done and Elvis added lyrics to the "single" version. Another hidden gem that I really like.
6. Move Over Busker - One of the best rockers/up-tempo songs on Press to Play
7. Tough on a Tightrope - One of the best extra songs on "Press To Play". Not on the original LP but added to the CD Edition. Always liked this one. Another Paul-Eric Stewart collaboration.
8. Yvonne's The One - Unreleased extra song ftom the Press to Play Sessions. One of Paul's best unreleased songs ever. People should know this song with a classic McCartney melody. Never understood why it was left off Press to Play.
9. Lindiana - Unreleased Song. Associated with the scrapped album "Return to Pepperland" around the 1986-1987 period where Paul was working with Producer Phil Ramone and for a little while with David Foster. Lindiana was one of those ballads with Paul working with David Foster. Nice song but never saw the light of day as did "Return to Pepperland." Many of the songs from this period later resurfaced on Flowers in the Dirt and later even on Flaming Pie.
10.My Brave Face - One of the best Paul-Elvis Costello collaborations. The opening track to Paul's new "Flowers in the Dirt" album
11. Flying to My Home - B-Side to the "My Brave Face" Single". Nice Paul up-tempo song.
12. Put It There - One of the best songs on Flowers in the Dirt and one of the best all time Paul Solo songs. Paul always played it "live"on his subsequent "Flowers" tour.
13. Distractions - Great hidden gem on the Flowers in the Dirt album.
14.. This One - Another of the great album cuts on "Flowers in the Dirt" and performed on the "Flowers" tour.
15.. Figure of 8 - A great rocker on the album "Flowers in the Dirt'. Paul opened his Flowers of the Dirt" tour with this track. I always liked the shorter studio version the best. The "Single" version is a bit too long for my taste.
16.. Loveliest Thing- Very good B-side to the "Figure of 8" Single.
17. The Lovers That Never Were- Paul and Elvis Costello Original Demo Collection. While this track later appeared on Paul's subsequent "Off the Ground" album in 1991, this acoustical version is still the best imo. Great vocals by Paul.
18. Tommy's Coming Home - Paul and Elvis Original Demo. Great Paul=Elvis cowritten track.
19. So Like Candy - Another great track from Paul's and Elvis's Original Demo's.
20. Twenty Fine Fingers - Love this Paul=Elvis Acoustical Demo.
21. You Want Her Too - Flowers in the Dirt album version. Like this version the best.
22. We Got Married - Great album version with David Foster producing. Auto-biographical iin nature about Paul and Linda' s marriage. Great lyrics and great guitar solo by David Gilmour
23. Only Love Remains - Great ballad from Press to Play album
Disc 1 (First Half of the 80's)
1. Squid - Unreleased from 1987
2. Coming Up - Single (Live version from Glasgow (Wings European tour)
3. Smmer's Day Song - from McCartney 2
4. One of These Days - from McCartney 2 (last track)
5. Tug of War/Take It Away - from Tug of War (1st 2 tracks; I love the way George Martin segways these opening tracks)
6. Somebody Who Cares - great deep track from Tug of War
7. The Pound is Sinking - great rocker from Tug of War
8. Wanderlust - from Tug of War (one of Paul's all time great Solo Songs)
9. Here Today - Live Version (Pick the best acoustical version from one of Paul's tours)
10. Rainclouds - B-Side to Ebony and Ivory Single
11. I'll Give You a Ring- great B-Side to Take It Away Single
12. Pipes of Peace - Opening track to Pipes of Peace and great production by George Martin)
13. Simple As That - unreleased and later appeared on the Anti-Heroin project (great unreleased Paul song)
14. The Other Me - from Pipes of Peace (great deep track)
15. Keep Under Cover - from Pipes of Peace (another very good deep track)
16. Through Our Love - Last track on Pipes of Peace (underrated and great ballad)
17. On the Wings jof a Nightingale - Unreleased and demo of the hit song Paul gave to the Everly Brothers)
18. No Values - from Broad Street Album (great rocker Paul and Band performed on the movie)
19. Not Such a Bad Boy - from Broad Street Album (Another good rocker performed in the movie)
20. No More Lonely Nights - from Braod Street (last big Billboard Paul Hit; great guitar solo from David Gilmour)
21. Waterfalls - from McCartney 2 (another great ballad from Paul)
Give a relook to my 80'selections; pretty good if I do say so myself; I would love to own 2 Discs like these.

"18. No Values - from Broad Street Album (great rocker Paul and Band performed on the movie)
19. Not Such a Bad Boy - from Broad Street Album (Another good rocker performed in the movie)"
I always loved these two songs and sadly they did not get much attention because the movie was a flop. These two songs would also have been great live but I have been down that road too many times before -lol.

Very good selections BJ but the fact is this would only appeal to a small base of Paul McCartney fans like you. Casual fans who will actually give McCartney post Beatle songs a chance would not plunk down money to buy something like this "Compilation" especially with what it may cost. They are more into the "Hits" and I don't think they would really care about having a few demos of songs they never heard before in their life. McCartney barely gets his aging fan base to buy one of his new solo albums. I think this type of project might work as a "limited edition" and he would only sell it to fans on this board for example, first come first serve -lol. For a few extra dollars/pounds (lol), McCartney can autograph a select few of these to make them a collectors item. The only problem with my suggestion would be whether a "limited edition"would be worth the cost of producing this "Complilation".

I agree 100% Yankeefan. I also love the B-sides and Unreleased songs on my 80's LIsts just above. I also love songs like Rainclouds (a McCartney-Laine B-Side and I'll Give You a Ring (another lost B-Side). I also love, love the unreleased songs like Squid (a great instrumental), Simpe As That (an extra song not on the original Pipes of Peace album), and as you know, On the Wings of a Nightingale. That is why I would buy a 80's Disc like this!

I've always loved Rainclouds. It is on a bootleg called When It Rains It Pours. The different versions shows you how they are working through the chords. There's one version 12 minutes long! I love it!

Thanks for the complement and I appreciate the fact that you unlike others really "look" at my selections.
You are probably right that the audience might be too small. On the other hand, I'm thinking of strictly a CD package with no frills (just the music) that wouldn't be that expensive. The material is already there. Paul and his team don't have to do more recordings etc. Unlike the Archive Remaster packages that include all the expensive packaging, extra stuff they include like the books, DVD's etc etc. I'm thinking of just the CD's like they did with Pure McCartney but with far better "content" as we have said. I think the 4 CD Pure McCartney package was only around $50 or $60 at Target. Overall I'm thinking about a 7 0r 8 CD package covering all of these Decades:
70's - 2 Discs
80's - 2 Discs
90's - 1 Disc
2000-2010 - 1 Disc
2010-2020 - 1 Disc
If the package is just CD's without all the expensive packaging, it might be a lot less than you think.

Thanks Oobu and great find! I'll have to give them a listen. Love these songs and I see that Paul later did some of them on his Unplugged(MTV) Album in 1991. Cage is yet another good unreleased song that Paul didn't include on "Back to the Egg".

I will admit I have no idea what it would cost to produce this type of thing even if you made it kind of "no frills" release. The main question is what is the motivation for the McCartney team to do this after doing "Pure McCartney". You and I may have disliked "Pure McCartney" but the McCartney team may think otherwise, I have no idea how well it sold. I don't think it did very well but would need others to check. I think Paul is probably more into having re-issues done than a "Complilation". I hate to be morbid but I could only see "Compilation" being done after Paul is no longer with us and the estate wants something new to package and make some money.
I love your idea, I like the songs you select even if I might make a couple of subtle changes -lol. It will be fun to see what you select for the next decades especially since there have been a couple of additional albums the last few years. Outside of a demo like "On The Wings Of A Nightengale", we could probably come close to putting something like this together by ourselves -lol.

BJ Conlee, I love the 80's discs you made. Glad to see Distractions made the cut, it's a great under the radar song. I also agree with you on Put It There being one of Paul's all time best solo songs, it's beautiful. I have memories of listening to it with my Dad when I was a kid, and it always makes me tear up a little.
Looking forward to the 90's disc.

Agree with your last 2 sentences.
And as far as sales, Pure McCartney sold 60,000 units in the U.K. Couldn't find U.S. sales number.

I just put the 70's Compilation List above so it would be real close to the 80's Compilation that is also on this page. Both Decades have 2 Discs each. Strictly for convenience so that both the 70's and 80's Compilation Lists are on the same page.
Not onto the 90's.

My last sentence on the post above...I meant to say..."Now onto the 90's".
