Paul McCartney 2015 Rumors

5th-beatle:
Let's do a crowdfunding/kickstarter kind of thing for a McCartney concert. I've got five dollars, who else? We just need another $3,995,000.00 now. Those who believe the legacy has been tarnished will get a special seat at the back of the venue, by the way.
Charging $4 million a show tarnishes his legacy more than any flavor of the day collaboration.

There is no way he is getting $4 million for arena shows. That ain't happening. Maybe for stadium gigs where there are 50,000 people. But an arena show in Lubbock, TX? No.

I thought it was $2 Million a show?

Why would getting four million a show "tarnish his legacy" ?

As much as I love this man...doesn't it bother anyone on here that after fifty years in the industry, he still feels the need to make four million a show? I've paid $30 to see Paul in concert and I've paid $500 for a gold package to see him...I don't regret any of my experiences. But could anyone on this board imagine going to sleep at night with a clean conscience knowing how much you can net with ONE single concert and knowing how many people will never see that kind of money in their lifetime? It's quite a challenge to swallow that really. Paul can make in three hours, what the average Joe will never touch.

I doubt 4 mil is accurate as his arena shows dont even gross that much. No promoter is gonna take a hit like that. Stadium show maybe he gets that. I would think the figure would be close to 1-2 mil a gig. Pre taxes plus merchandise. He should drop the long soundcheck as it effects his vocals during the main gig. Plus, all the fans clamoring for his autograph and holding silly signs at these soundchecks is crazy. And mingling with the average fan is beneath us.
-
I've been hearing that his fee is 3 mil per show for a long time. As a matter of fact, a company I worked a few years ago tried to get him to play in Korea and that was the exact number that came up during a very brief, early stage discussion. 4 mil could be a stretch. But 1 mil? That would be quite an underestimation.

I was being ironic. Or sarcastic. Or something!

It is ridiculous, IMO. Yes, he is amazing and wonderful. But to charge that amount is something that will be written about in his bios in decades to come. I have paid $9, $25, $35, and $250 to see him, and they were all pretty much the same. Great shows, mind you. But the $250 concert was NOT ten times better than the others. It was the same show.

I think that it might vary, depending on the size of the venue. If these numbers here are correct - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out_There_%28tour%29 - it might vary between 1 million and 3 million.

In 2013 promoters in New Mexico put together a proposal guaranteeing Paul $1 million for a show in Las Cruces and he turned it down to play in Memphis instead for $2 million. I think $2 million is his minimum. But I am not sure.

Depends what we are talking about too, like the Stones, he/MPL must be producing the shows too so there is a lot of money coming out of that set fee, musicians, stage design, equipment, permanent personnel, etc... It's not like he gets $2/$3 million wired to his bank account shows up and goes home and the rest is SEP. That's what Chuck Berry used to do but he got paid in cash (before the beginning of the show) and not for the same type of fee

The same can be said for ANY touring entity. Elton John, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Kiss, The Eagles, etc. It's not some magical thing with McCartney. His band uses the same gear as Elton's, the same PA system, the same lighting, etc. It's not better or more expensive.
-
My point was that he's not getting a set fee of $X million into his bank account for his own personal use as some people seemed to be thinking here.

That's what I've always said about the soundcheck tickets...paying so much & not even an autographed cd or a drive by giving us all high 5s. 40 rows back for soundcheck & rows 2-7? for the regular show...for $1500.00. And sometimes they have 200 people at these?

I know that. But if the Eagles charge $1 million for a show and Paul charges $3 million, my point is a McCartney show is not any more expensive to stage than any other artist. He just charges more. How the money is distributed is actually irrelevant. I doubt McCartney's side men make any more than Elton's side men. Same with roadies, sound and light people, etc.
-
Maybe you know but looking at the other messages posted on the previous pages I'm not sure everyone had that in mind. As for the way the money is shared being irrelevant", I'm not so sure, it would make sense for everyone to get a better payday on a McCartney/Stones show/tour than on an Elton John/Who/Eagles show, etc...musicians and pretty much everybody else. These guys have the luxury of being able to work with the best of the best across the board and that comes with a cost...that they're happy/have to pay because they gross the most, that everybody knows that, etc...

IF that is what is happening. But you don't know that.
-
And neither do you...look I'm not sure what your beef is here but I took the time to explain why it would make sense for things to work that way, now if you prefer to think that Paul is exploiting his fans, his musicians, his contractors and the promoters that's fine by me.

Well, good then! It does make sense if only to make more money. And that is the only reason to charge more. Simple capitalism.
