Nancy...we will have to agree to disagree. I remember when the subject came up about which songs Paul should play for the upcoming "Got Back" tour and a couple of fans were listing songs like "Monkberry Moon Delight" or even "O'h! Darling". Now for anyone to think that Paul could sing those kind of songs with his current voice is pure "Fantasy". I admit I don't know anything about the costs involved in releasing a new CD but what I'm talking about is using the same audios' of old songs when Paul could really sing is something totally different. It may not be a "realistic" idea but it's not pure fantasy.
Thanks for pointing out when Paul and his Run Devil Run Band did the "Cavern" Show. I was close but should have looked it up before replying.
I side with you on this one BJ. Your compilation idea as you put it may not be "Realistic " but I would not classify it as a "Fantasy". In fact, most other arists who have had a fairly succesful solo career after being in a famous group probably would welcome this type of project. I am a big Lindsay Buckingham fan and he embraces his solo career. He put out great solo anthology recording (3 disc) a few years ago. Heck, he even included two songs he wrote for movie soundtracks (Back To The Future, National Lampoon's Vacation) and added new song. IMO your idea is not realistic is because of Paul not truly embracing his solo career and wanting people to hear all of his music. As for Nancy's "Fantasy" mentioned on another post, "not going there" -lol. Just teasing Nancy !!!

B J, yes, agree to disagree. And I never said your idea was "pure" fantasy. I said it was "your" fantasy (which was improbable by definition)

It's too bad because this compilation should be very realistic. IMO it should be an obvious choice for them to release something like this, but unfortunately it's probably not going to happen.

I'm kind of done with this subject (Many here will be happy I'm sure). As I look over my lists (like 57 songs including the Starter CD and 2 CD follow-up on page 4 of this post) I like most of these songs a lot. Music is subjective but one thing for sure...for whatever reasons, they didn't get their just due during the time when they were recorded. Almost all of them were "Leftovers" and didn't make their respective original albums. That really hurt their chances of getting "known"to say the least. All I'm saying is that if I was Paul or his kids, I would want many of them to be highlighted in some special way. This woujld be the best way in my opinion.

I said it before and will say it one last time (lol), this type of CD might get done after Paul is no longer alive. The estate (Paul's children/Nancy) might decide to just kind of wrap up his music career with a compilation like the one you suggested which is much different than "Pure McCartney". If it ever happened, it would obviously be after all the re-issues which I assume are very profitable. One final thought is I wonder if his children like his solo songs or just Beatle/Wings songs. I could understand them really liking Wings songs a bunch due to their Mom was on these records also.

1 CD Starter Tracklist for "Leftovers and Rarities" (REVISED)
1. Goodbye
2. A Love for You ("In-Laws Soundtrack" version)
3. The Mess
4. Sally G
5. Waterspout
6. Daytime Nightime Suffering
7. Rainclouds
8. On the Wings of a Nightingale
9. Yvonne's the One
10. Flying to My Home
11. Loveliest Thing
12. Love Come Tumbling Down
13. I Can't Imagine
14. Whole Life ("One Year On, Nelson Mandela" Tribute Album version)
15. Home Tongiht
16. In a Hurry
Maybe Target or Walmart would have a $9.95 Sale Price in the first week. I think it would be a big seller for Paul and it would be a great release for Paul's Legacy. If it sells well, a 2 or 3 CD package would be a natural follow-up.
-
If possible (another great song on the 1 Cd Starter Album) above would be:
Give Ireland Back to the Irish
What a great CD for all Paul McCartney fans in my opinion.

I don't know if any of the songs above are potential "singles" but it would be great if "Spotify" would pick up many of these songs. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think any of these songs have been played on Spotify in the past. I still can't believe the quality of these "Leftovers". Most of them are "unknown" to many casual Beatle or Paul fans.

Rarely disagree with you BJ but this song is one of the few times I do. Never liked it and IMO Paul does not do "political" songs well.

Hey Yankeefan
I kind of like "Give Ireland Back to the Irish". I like Paul's "Ram" like vocals and Henry McCullough's blistering guitar solo's. Anyway, to each his own. But when I look at the Revised "single cd" tracklist above, I love many of the songs. 4 or 5 of them could be potential "singles" in my opinion.
Still haven't seen how Paul's latest package of McCartney 1, McCartney 2 and McCartney 3 is selling. Even though the 3 CD package is reasonably priced, I can't see the set selling very well. Most fans already have these albums individually.
Hey my friend,,, my Alaska Land and Sea trip is less than 2 weeks away. Can't wait.

"But when I look at the Revised "single cd" tracklist above, I love many of the songs. 4 or 5 of them could be potential "singles" in my opinion."
It boggles my mind that the two songs from "Egypt Station" (Home Tonight, In A Hurry) were left off the original album and IMO they could have been good singles. I thought they would have been excellent addition to live set list but not going down that road again -lol. I thought "The Mess" was once a B-side and it is good rocker which usually makes good single. If Paul had ever recorded his own version of "ON The Wings Of A Nightengale" then I believe it could be a single, demo version is not good enough. To wrap it up, your list has a bunch of songs with "singles" potential.
"Still haven't seen how Paul's latest package of McCartney 1, McCartney 2 and McCartney 3 is selling. Even though the 3 CD package is reasonably priced, I can't see the set selling very well. Most fans already have these albums individually."
I agree with you 100%, can't imagine this selling well for the reason you stated. I don't think they added any additional music to the package which might be the only thing to attract people to buy it.
"Hey my friend,,, my Alaska Land and Sea trip is less than 2 weeks away. Can't wait."
You are going to have the vacation of a lifetime, just the sheer beauty of Alaska will "blow you away". You also got some neat activities planned so I am sure you are counting down the days!!! I think I will be heading to NYC for a quick trip (Aug 30) about the same time you will be leaving. Of course, I will want to see pictures when you get back and are settled at home. BYW - Did you get my email with some Biltmore House pictures? Sent it a couple of weeks ago?

^ Yankeefan, I've been to Biltmore twice! Love it! One time was in 1991. They used to let you drive through the grounds and I opened up the sunroof and got out my camcorder (remember those?) and stood up through the sunroof to film. I saw someone I knew from work walking and you can hear me yelling "I know you!"

You still can drive around the grounds but there have been many changes over the years and especially due to COVID. Best time to visit is springtime when the garden is the prettiest and Christmas when the House is decorated. We have season's pass and usually go 3-4 times a year. I recently gave my camcorder to my brother in-law since I know longer needed it. I had converted all the tapes I took with it to DVD's. My brother in-law said he would use it so figured it was getting rid of some stuff for me and giving something he could use.

Got the email you sent with the Biltmore pictures. Thanks Yankeefan and they look great. We are thinking that we can get up there sometime in 2023. Maybe next year during Christmas we can go. As you said, that would be an ideal time.

Since I have already done my "Starter CD" for LEFTOVERS AND RARITIES (on this page a few posts above) Here would be my 2CD package for the Follow-Up -- LEFTOVERS AND RARITIES.
LEFTOVERS AND RARITIES (CONTINUED)
2 CD PACKAGE
DISC 1
1. Oh Woman, Oh Why (B-side of Another Day single)
2. Give Ireland Back to the Irish - Early single for Paul but promptly banned in Great Britain. Love Paul's vocals and a great electric guitar work by Henry McCullough.
3. Goodbye - Hit single that Paul wrote for Mary Hopkin. I love Paul's simple demo here and should be better known
4. Country Dreamer (B-Side to Helen Wheels). Great little country tune and a track that Linda really loved
5. Soily - Live version on Wings Over America (final track).
6. I'm Carrying - Great deep cut on London Town and later released on the "In-Laws" Soundtrack. I like the "In-Laws" Soundtrack version the best.
7. Mull of Kintyre - The single was a huge seller in many countries (not the US however). Paul played "Mull" quite a few times at his Canada Shows. Pick the best "live" version.
8. Cage - Unreleased song from the Back to the Egg Sessions. Great relatively unknown track.
9. Wanderlust- Great deep cut on Tug of War. I love the "Give My Regards to Broad Street" Album and Soundtrack. Youtube version is the best with the little snippet of "Here, There and Everywhere" at the end. One of Paul's very best and should be far better known.
10.Tough On a Tightrope - Extra track on Press to Play but never was on the Album Press to Play. Great song and should be better known.
11. Write Away - Another Extra track on Press to Play and not on the Press to Play Album. Great song in my opinion and should be far better known.
12. Only Love Remains - "LIve" version on the British Tube Show. Linda and Judith Light (from "Who's the Boss" TV fame) sing back-up for Paul. Great version and Paul plays a little snippet of "Great Balls of Fire" (the Jerry Lee Lewis classi at the end.
13. Simple As That - Extra song from the original Pipes of Peace Sessions but not on the album. From what I remember most of the McCartney kids sing on this song. Simple As That later appeared on the "It's a Live-In World...the Anti Heroin Project.
14. Put It There - "Live" version on Tripping the Live Fantastic Album. Great version
15. Mama's LIttle Girl - B-Side to the Put It There Single.
16. This One - "LIve" Version on Tripping the Live Fantastic Album. Great version.
17. Love Mix/Waiting for the Sun to Shine - Old Paul song that was added to the Flowers in the Dirt Archive Edition.
18. Back on My Feet - One of Paul and Elvis Costello's early joint- written songs and B-Side to "Once Upon a Long Ago". I like Paul's demo the best.
19. Once Upon a Long Ago - A hit and single in Great Britain but was hardly ever played in the US. Another great relatively unknown song.
20. That Day is Done - "Live" version from the Paul and Elvis Costello original demos. Far better than the "Flowers in the Dirt" album version.
Disc 2
21. Hope of Deliverance - "Live" version from the "Up Close and Personal" show done at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in NYC. Paul's vocals are great here and the overall song is better than the studio album version.
22. Lovers That Never Were - "Live" version from the Paul and Elvis Costello original demos. Far better than the "Off the Ground" studio version. Paul's vocals according to Elvis Costello are one of his best from his entire career.
23. Sweet Sweet Memories - Another leftover from the Off the Ground Sessions and added to the Off the Ground Complete Works CD. The Off the Ground Complete Works CD was only manufactured in Germany.
24. Long Leather Coat - B-Side to Hope of Deliverance and was on the Off the Ground Complete Works CD.
25. I Owe It All to You - "LIve" version from the "Up Close and Personal" show at the Ed Sullivan Theatre. Better than the Off the Ground Studio version.
26. Same Love - Another leftover from the Flowers in the Dirt Sessions and added to the "Flowers in the Dirt Archive Set"
27. Broomstick - B-Side to the "Young Boy" single and added to the Flaming Pie Archive Set.
28. What It Is - one of the original rockers that Paul wrote for the Run Devil Run Album. "Live" version done at the Cavern Club in LIverpool. Great version and even better than the album version in my opinion.
29. Try Not to Cry - Another Paul original written for the Run Devil Run Album. "Live" version done at the Cavern Club in LIverpool with Paul's Run Devil Run Band. Great version and far better than the Run Devil Run Album version.
30. Run Devil Run - Title Track for Run Devil Run and Another Paul original written for the same Album. "Live" version done at the Peta Los Angeles Show. Great verslion.
31. No Other Baby - "Live" version done at the Cavern Club. The Definitive version in my opinion.
32. Fabulous - B-Side to "No Other Baby" and not on the original Run Devil Run album.
33. Brown Eyed Handsome Man - "Live" version done at the Cavern Club. Great version
34. Lonesome Town - "LIve" Version done at the Peta Show in LA. Great version.
35. India - Unreleased track and done on The Secret Website Show in 2003. Great track featuring all members of Paul's currrent Band.
36. Celebration - One of Paul's best "Classical" songs on the Standing Stone Album. Love this instrumental version with Paul at the piano.
37. Comfort of Love - B-Side to the "Fine Line" Single
38. Growing Up, Falling Down - B-Side to the "Fine Line" Single
39. This Loving Game - B-Side to the "Jenny Wren" Single
40. Summer of 59 - B-Side to the "Jenny Wren" Single
41. She is So Beautiful - Extra Song on the Japanese Edition of Chaos and Creation
I stopped here with the Chaos and Creation album and its subsequent B-Sides. I love these tracks that really show how great a composer that Paul is especially considering that most of these songs never made it on their original respective albums. The other thing I added are "LIve" versions that in many cases are better than their "studio counterparts. That is the "Rarities" side of these collections.
If this is successful (And I'm sure with the right publicity it would be) you would have another CD or Two featuring many of Paul's Leftovers or Rarities from Paul 's very fruitful writing period from 2007 (Memory Almost Full) all the way to the current times with McCartnly 3.
Again, I think Paul really needs this from a "legacy" point of view. He was far more than just Beatle Paul in my opinion.
Another song you could add to this 2 CD Follow Up Package for this "Leftovers and Rarities" Album would be:
Maybe I'm Amazed (Live version from 1976 Wings Over America CD). Since American Radio always seem to play the Mccartney 1 Studio Version, this would be more of a Rarity Version. This "live" version was released as a single in 1976. This is a great version showcasing Paul's raw vocal skills.

The live version of this song is fantastic, I believe it reached #10 on the US charts. Years ago, I listened to Charlotte radio station on my way home from work on Sunday mornings (worked night shift - IT) and they had a great format. For one hour, they would play acoustic songs and or solo songs from artist in famous bands. I remember hearing acoustic version of Lennon doing "Imagine" which was very cool. This station played the live version of "Maybe I'm Amazed" which I loved, his vocals of this song were amazing back then. See link below, got a kick out of Jimmy introdicing the song as a "piano" tune -lol. I agree with you, this would be very nice addition to your compilation CD idea.

Thanks Yankeefan for the "link" to the "live" Wings Over America version of Maybe I'm Amazed. While I love the studio version of MIA on McCartney 1, I also really like this version from Paul's 1976 tour. And you are so right...Paul's vocals are spot on during this period when Paul could really sing. I also love Jimmy's nice introduction if they could keep it in.
I like the idea of putting different "versions" of some of Paul's big songs from back in the day. Putting this very recognizable song but in a different version makes this type of "Leftovers and Rarities" package more saleable. Fans will definitely notice thei difference on his "live" MIA version than what they often hear on American Radio.
You could also do something similar to "Mull of Kintyre". Instead of choosing the big hit "single"you often hear on the radio, you could purposely include the best "live" version of "Mull". Paul really sings it well and he did the song on many of his Canada shows still using local bagpipe players. I have heard these on Youtube and they are quite good. Again, this could be the "Rarities" part of "Leftovers and Rarities.
The last song I would want to specifically include is "Once Upon a Long Ago". While this song was released as a single in Great Britain and was a pretty decent hit (I think it went to #10 or 12 in GB) it never was released as a single in America. Consequently, it is hardly known by casual Beatle or Paul McCartney fans throughout the USA. It would be a great inclusion.
You could quibble with a few of my choices that I posted above but Paul being so prolific there are always good alternative choices. For example another really good "unreleased" song in my opinion is "Lindiana". It was originally to be on the "shelved" Return to Pepperland album. Squid is yet another really good choice that was again suppose to on "Return to Pepperland and it never happened.

I think "live " version of songs is perfect for this type of CD. First, it is always a bit different than the studio version and in most cases much better IMO. I think "Mull" is another perfect example of this idea. I agree 100% that "Once Upon Long Ago" would be great inclusion, leave it to MPL to not release it as a single in the US. Never really listened to songs from "Pepperland" so maybe I will try to find them in near future.
OT - when do you leave for Alaska? I forgot the exact date. I head to NYC for a couple of days on Aug 30th.

Thanks Yankeefan
Yes, "very good" live versions in many cases are great to hear and as you said, are better in many cases than their studo or original album versions. That's why I included many on them on this "proposed "Leftovers and Rarities" Package. Just looking at my 2 CD tracklist (a few posts above on this page) I have included bunch.. The live versions from Run Devil Run on my list above are a good example. These are from special "live" Shows that Paul did at the Cavern Club in LIverpool and a little later at the special "Peta" show in Los Angeles to promote Run Devil Run. I think they are great and at a time when Paul's vocals were top notch. I did the same thing on the "Live" versions I picked from Flowers in the Dirt and Off the Ground. I think they are better than what is on the original albums.
The Return to Pepperland "scratched" album and songs can be found on YouTube. Some of them are pretty good to Ok but a few of them are terrific in my opinion.
Have a great time in NYC. I am leaving for Alaska on September 5th. I'll send you an email in a couple of days.
Thanks again.

Another thing that would be perfect for your compilation would be songs Paul gave to other artists over the years. You included his demo of "On The Wings Of A Nightengale" but I have listed a couple of others that would be nice additions. The songs I listed below I think Paul could sing them even with his voice today and do his own version. If not, have the version of these songs done by the artist they were written for with notation they were written by Paul.
Come and Get It - Badfinger
Goodbye - Mary Hopkins
If I Take You Home Tonight - Diana Krall
World Without Love - Peter & Gordon
Woman - Peter & Gordon
Mine For Me - Rod Stewart
