"Out There" 2013 Setlist Critique and Suggestions

My passion for Paul McCartney's newer songs is a testament of my devotion, and I think it shows him the ultimate respect. It somewhat offends me that other fans have virtually zero interest in anything he's done in the last twenty years. Still, this is a problem for a lot of longtime acts who continue to tour: "How do I keep on pleasing those who want only the staples while letting the rest of the world know that I'm still musically relevant?" I'm sure Madonna ponders this, as do U2, Sting, Prince, the Stones and all the other legends who still record and release new music.
I have seen Sting several times (due to my wife is a major fan) and songs from "The Police" are in the minority of his set list. I hate to say this but I don't think McCartneyhas much interest in his solo work after it has been recorded. He might play a few songs while they are his current release but after that they go away forever with very few exceptions.

that's an interessting importance. Following this we have to be delighted that we got hi hi hi, hope of deliverance, LTWTMS and another day back. IMO large share of it carries rusty, abem brian and wix. Surely paul still forgot a lot's jewels thru the years and mainly remembers more beatles stuff.

Yes, but wouldn't a real fan who enjoys Paul just be thankful for the songs he's playing? Lets face it guys, Paul doesn't have many touring years left. This could be the last major tour. He's obviously not going to do a full solo show, or full Fireman show, and as much as we would love to see that, it ain't gonna happen. Ever. So why don't the real fans sit back, suck it up, have some snacks, and enjoy this tour.
You know that a discussion has reached a low point when someone starts talking about "real" fans. Everyone here is a real fan. At least ... I don't think I'm imaginary.
Well judging from the recent comments, it looks like no one here is a real fan, or a fan at all. They're just complaining, again, about the Beatles. Oh and by the way Michelley, this discussion reached a low point way before my post.

Re: new songs, keith and mick. For me the worst part of any Stones show is when Keith sings his two songs. A waste of two songs, especially when they could be singing Heartbreaker.

Pauls set list, as a songwriter, I count 33 Paul McCartney songs, 2 John Lennon songs, 1 George Harrison song. I just wish he'd pick a few better Paul McCartney songs. Instead of All Together Now, lmri, paperback rider; play Backseat Of My Car, Silly Love Songs, Rinse The Raindrops, etc.

Certainly seems that way.

Funny--every year this same conversation comes up, sometimes multiple times a year. If Paul can change his setlist, can't we change some of the conversations?

I guess I'll shift my focus to the upcoming album -- which I'm sure I'm gonna love.

As long as we put in our solo stuff....

I am also going to wait for and focus on the new McCartney CD. I suspect after this tour, with dates through August, we can all talk about McCartney's new music and maybe another tour will follow. With some NEW songs in the set!

what's about the idea to show on the concerts our pleasure about new wings/solo additions. Several fans could hold up posters like "more solo and wings songs!" during hope of deliverance, another day etc. as nice transmission to get more of this stuff :
-
That might be a distraction to Paul. Might be less disruptive to hold up a sign requesting specific songs. This isn't the greatest example, but I recall somewhere on YouTube is a video of Red Hot Chili Peppers' John Frusciante goin' off on an audience member who held up a sign asking if he could play John's guitar. The fan held up the sign nonstop until Frusciante finally acknowledged it in not-so-nice terms.

This is the setlist thread though. We do have many other threads...in fact one about his fashion, his hair, his solo album.

I agree. I am really so much more interested in new album/record/CD than the tour. BTW - check out the poll I created about buying McCartney solo records. Will be interesting to see the responses.

We have plenty of different conversations during the year in all of the forums.

I agree, Does anyone think Paul might feel that the Beatles fans got a little short changed by them not touring the last four years of their existence? I think he is proud of what he did with the Beatles.

Could be. I thought I read at the end McCartney was trying to get the other Beatles to play live again and convince them that they fans would actually listen to the music instead of screaming - lol.
