'Hi Hi Hi', 'Listen To What The Man Said', 'Junior's Farm', 'Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five', 'Another Day' and 'Hope Of Deliverance' in one setlist. That's reading like some unrealistic 2009 wishlist of a fan. _O_
That's funny you mention it like that. I can remember folks on here ALWAYS wishing for 1985 and Junior's Farm...they were always at the top of the wishlists, and now we've got em!
That is how I KNOW Paul's people much check out what we write on here from time to time, Lovely Rita was another that was asked for from time to time. i think he keeps feelers out.

Yeah, that was very obvious opening night of the Up and Coming Tour. Venus and Mars was asked for a lot too...although the result wasn't quite as satisfying.

An interesting point was raised...think he'll alternate the opener? I wonder if it would be another "brand new beatles song" if he does? Since virtually anything seems fair game now, I'd say go for "I Feel Fine"!
Alternating openers is never a bad thing.
I think it keeps the excitement no matter what, even if you know what both openers are...you dont know which one you're gonna get!
Exactly. That's been one of my favorite elements of the concert - guessing which opener you're gonna get! Before, it could be "Hello, Goodbye" one night and "Magical Mystery Tour" the next. "I Feel Fine" would make a good one. I would love to get to hear "Got To Get You Into My Life" as an opener, which of course has been done a lot over the years, but it is one of my top 5 favorite Beatles songs. "Can't Buy Me Love" could be a fun one, too. If the opener didn't have to be a Beatles song, my vote would go to "Junior's Farm" or "Coming Up".
-
Got to Get You Into My Life would be spectacular! And it really hasn't been used as opener in a LONG time...
-
What a great, great set list!! Whoa. Obscure Beatle tunes (Mother Should Know, Mr. Kite, Lovely Rita, 8 Days a Week, All Together) and Wings tunes galore (Juniors Farm, Listen To What The Man Said, Let Me Roll It, 1985, Maybe I'm Amazed, Another Day (close enough!), Mrs. V, BOTR, HI HI HI, and Live and Let Die). Hope of Deliverance was truly beautiful, with all five band members on guitars; Abe nailed it!! See ya all in Tulsa!!

I don't think that "Got To Get You Into My Life" has been ever been an opener at all. In 1989/90 he opened with "Figure Of 8", in 1993 with "Drive My Car" and from 2002 onwards with "Hello Goodbye", "Magical Mystery Tour", "Jet", "Venus & Mars / Rockshow", "Eight Days A Week". I could be wrong, though. As for the set list, I have followed all the topics and yesterday I was very emotional about experencing the concert with all of you guys in real time. Something that had not happened to me in such a special way since Phoenix 28 March 2010, when he performed V&M, Lettin' Go, 1985, etc. for the first time with "My Band". I would like to express my opinion. I am very happy with the new additions, and the set lists topic is a very complex thing, because in the old days, when there was no internet, you didn't care if Paul was around the world playing the same thing over an over. You just cared about the concert that you would attend and that's it, enjoyed it and didn't give a d*** about what he played elsewhere. Now we follow his activity in a daily basis and we get "bored" (?) when he doesn't bring us a surprise, but honestly, most of us attends one of his concerts once each couple of years, if we are lucky enough. So, think if you didn't know at all what is he playing elsewhere, no YouTube, no forums, nothing. Would you really mind listening to Let It Be, Hey Jude, Yesterday or Back In The USSR at each of the once-per-couple-of-years shows? I don't think so. You'd just be happy to see the man himself. I'd bet you that there's no chance that you could get bored. I admit that -and here comes that part where I'm sure, many of you will disagree- even if as a Paul's concertography obsessed person, I *am* happy with the set list changes, I would have liked it to be a bit different. I am just one regular of 100.000.000+ Paul fans worldwide, but since this is a discussion forum, I think that I am entitled to express my opinion: 1) I am happy with the "new" Beatles inclusions in the set list. As for myself, I would have probably chosen other songs for him to do: Martha My Dear, Honey Pie, When I'm 64, Oh! Darling (in a lower key), the full "You Never Give Me Your Money" version, to name a few. I am happy with "Eight Days A Week" as a new opener, "Lovely Rita" and "Mr Kite" is indeed a surprise. "Your Mother Should Know" and"All Together Now" are probably in the bottom of my list. 2) I know that probably I'll never experience such shock like the one I had with "Cosmically Conscious" (with Ringo!) back in 2009, and considering that he might tour with this set list (more or less) for another 2/3 years, I am honestly I am not sure if we'll ever get again such a "new" set list revolution like yesterday (one day we'll do get "bored" of yesterday's new entries). But, I can't understand how badly Paul has been ignoring his post 1976 period. If my memory serves me, only "Here Today" (1982), "HoD" (1992 -single- / 1993 -album-) and "My Valentine" (2012) have been played. Just count how many albums/singles/songs have been recorded/released since 1977 onwards. Why can't he please the late 70's / 80's / 90's / 00's fans a little more? I'd be happy with just *two* inclusions from this period. No More Lonely Nights, With A Little Luck, My Brave Face/This One/Figure of 8 (not played since 1990), C'Mon People (not played since 1993), Pipes Of Peace, Beautiful Night, Souvenir, Stranglehold, Dance Tonight (just kidding ;-)), Wanderlust, Only Love Remains, Once Opon A Long Ago, etc. There are such never-ever-performed beautiful songs from this period that it makes me sad to think that at this point they will never make it to the concerts. I'd wish he toured in 1982/86. Many of these would have been performed, but I can understand why he didn't do it until 1989. There are many reasons. 3) Long & Winding Road, Let Me Roll It, Get Back, Back In The USSR. Isn't it time to give them a rest? During the 70's he hadn't even performed Hey Jude, and Let It Be didn't make it until 1979. I am sure that fans will survive if some or all of these are not being played. Clapton hasn't performed "Tears In Heaven" since 2004, Phil Collins hasn't played "I'd Wish It Would Rain Down" more than five times, Elton John hasn't performed "Healin' Hands" since 1990. I mean, Paul is so big that he is beyond these songs. My points might sound like a contradiction with my prologue, but these are merely about a set list change appreciation, while the prologue is a relfexion on how this all has changed since the internet / social network days. Anyway, Paul is Paul and I am just a regular guy. He can do what he wants and I have no right to judge him. Whatever he does, I'll be there. He's been my all-time hero since I was a little kid and now that I am a daddy, he still is and will always be so. I am just a fan expressing my opinion. Sorry for the long post, but I am one of those who likes to say everything at once and then get back (no pun intended) to the shadows and keep being just a watcher. Just my opinion.

Suggestions: ONLY MOMMA KNOWS FINE LINE FLAMING PIE MY BRAVE FACE THIS ONE If Paul would just incorporate these songs into the set list, even rotate them he would give his more recent output some stage time. This is not a complaint, just a suggestion!

GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE was the opener in 1979.

Great choices!! I love all of those too!! Like you said, not complaining.....I love the new set list, but there are only 3 or 4 songs from the last 30 years out of a catalog of awesome options.

Clapton hasn't performed "Tears In Heaven" since 2004
He actually played Tears on his recent tour and the concert was awesome! (even brought Sunshine Of Your Love back into his set list too.)

You are right, "Tears In Heaven" has been now brought back into the set list after 10 years. I didn't know it. I have seen Clapton twice (2001 & 2011) but I am far from following his concertography.

Ooops, I forgot about the 1979 tour!

I wouldn't care what song he chooses , but it would be nice to play at least one from the last 31 years that hasn't been done before. Just one.

I would have reminded you but someone beat me to it. It was a great opener! But by now it's been part of the set for so long, it's nice to have a completely new song as the opener.

I'm for that! I like the setlist changes, but there's surely room for something more recent. It'd be interesting to hear anything live from the '80s. Maybe if "Broad Street" ever gets a remaster treatment, perhaps on Blu-Ray or CD, we can get a song or two. Same thing for Tug of War and Pipes of Peace. It would probably have to be a promo thing. I'd surely welcome "No More Lonely Nights", and I think the band would be able to play a solid "Not Such a Bad Boy" or "Ballroom Dancing". Heck, there's probably a better chance of that than Press to Play material being done live. Best bet would likely be from Flowers in the Dirt. So many awesome live renditions from '89-'90. As for the '90s, Great to see "Hope of Deliverance" back. Anything off of Flowers In The Dirt and Off The Ground would be nice to hear again, as they are among my favorites. "Calico Skies" seems to be the last piece of "Flaming Pie" going around. "The World Tonight" could be given a stellar live treatment, as could "Beautiful Night". And the list just keeps on going. As much as we may love it, the general, concert-going public probably loves the Beatles more...
