Set List critique
-
I thought I would join in the set list debate, despite the fact that I have only seen Paul live 4 times in my entire life, all since December 2011, although I have been a fan since 1963. I have seen Paul accused of not changing the set list too often. I'm not sure if 3 and a half years between my first and most recent gigs, qualifies for a representative sample for a true set list comparison? However, a quick look shows that from the first time I saw him to the most recent, he has "lost" 17 songs, added 16 "new" ones, and 21 songs make up the "core set list", and there a couple of additonal öne off's", such as "Wonderful Christmastime" No matter what, there's always going to be something on the set list of any band or artist, that someone doesn 't like. They will always play some tracks off their most recent album - they're trying to plug sales, so why wouldn't they? If Paul played all the songs I would like him to, he would probably have to take a lunch break mid set! I am sad that he has lost "All my loving", "Jet", "Day Tripper" and "The night before". I was excited that he added "Eight days a week", "Listen to what the man said", "Queenie Eye", "Another Girl", "Hi hi hi" and "Can't buy me love". I wish he had included "C Moon" and "Coming Up" in the show and not just in the soundcheck. There's also a bunch of songs that I have never heard him play live yet and would love to, such as "Twist and Shout", "She loves you", "Ï wanna hold your hand", "Please please me", "Till there was you". "Tell me why", Ï'm happy just to dance with you", "Money".............etc. I had forgotten how many great songs Wings did, so it was good to hear them again. Slightly öff topic", what really annoys me a lot at gigs, is people constantly nipping in and out of the auditorium during the show! Tickets don't come cheap and to constantly have my view disrupted by selfish people nipping off to the loo or to buy more drinks, is really frustrating! Why pay a fortune for a gig ticket and spend the night going to the bar? You could've stayed at home and listened to a CD or watched a DVD and not disrupted someone elses evening! I also think it's disrespectful to the artist, to nip off during their set. Maybe I am in a minority? But I like to actually see the gig I have bought the ticket for, more so when it's a very expensive one! Rant over I do hope I get to see Paul again in the future

Funny, I woke up today with a frantic need to write a "set list" for Paul's upcoming concerts of songs I'd love to hear, saw myself (in the dream) intently, sort of desperately writing down song possibilities--as if he would actually honor these, go by this list and perform each one (laughs)! Have posted such wish lists here before. It's a fairly arduous task as he's got so many in his catalog. Seems kind of daunting, though I've done it before It might be fun to get in on this, again

Luckily for both London shows L2T and me had no such issue of people constantly leaving there area, but I did see a bit of it ahead of me and it's appalling selfishness in my opinion! I think if you want to keep drinking F off to the bars and stay there! A friend of mine stood up at Saturday's London show and was berated for doing so, at 25 he wanted to enjoy himself, what's the point going if you can't let go a little! I know it can be tough if you're older at a show and don't want to stand much, but as I said before what's the point being there if you can't have fun?
-
I LOVED that he played Hi Hi Hi. Really missed Jet, though. Going to see him for the first time in Hyde Park and for him to start bursting onto the stage with Jet was incredibly special. With you on wanting more solo material. We were hoping for 'Off the Ground' or a track from Flaming Pie. Definitely agree he could lose 'Something' - I've heard that exact tribute three times now, while it's sweet there's plenty of fantastic George songs to choose from! LOVED it when he played Mull of Kintyre in Liverpool (it was right before Christmas) - complete with bagpipes and students from LIPA

I have absolutely no problem with people standing up to dance/arm wave, etc. For me, that's part of going to a show, although I do have to sit down and take a rest from time to time! I am not as fit as Mr McCartney, and he's got a few years on me. It people constantly disturbing you to go to the bar/loo. That really bugs me

I don't care what other people do at a concert. I just care about me enjoying the show.

Magnificent show it was. I was at Liverpool again last week and it beats me why Paul didn't play Penny Lane this time (having soundchecked it). Obviously THE perfect place to play it, and similarly, a bit strange Mull Of Kintyre wasn't played this time around.

It happens to me all the time. Another reason I hate seated concerts.
-
I stood up the whole time in Birmingham and Liverpool and nobody complained. A bunch of people kept leaving for the bathroom or to get a beer, so what I did was to stand up close to the seat in front of me for the whole shows, so when those people left they had to walk behind me. I'm not letting anyone spoil my concerts, after traveling all the way to Europe.

Why? Liverpool isn't in Scotland - it was only played in Liverpool that time because it was close to Christmas. Although it isn't a Christmas song - it was a Christmas number 1 here and gets some airtime over the festive period, even now.
-
Mull was a smash hit in the UK. Not sure why it is not a regular in his set list when he plays there. Arguing that it was a "Christmas hit" is just ridiculous. YES, it climbed the charts in that time period, but it is not a holiday song, per say, like Wonderful Christmas Time. I can see not playing it in the US, since it was not a major hit here. Kind of a weird tune if it can only be played where there are local bagpipe players!!

It didnt climb the charts at the time period - it topped the charts!! I am not arguing that it should only be played at Christmas time - I am saying that apart from when in Scotland or Canada he only plays it elsewhere in the UK at Christmas time, that is a fact not an opinion. Hence my bewilderment at expecting him to play it. He has shown no reason to think that he would play it. A song about a place in Scotland that was recorded with bagpipe players - not weird but perfectly normal that he would only play it when there are bagpipe players available to play.

Coz in general nobody likes it at any time of the year other than Christmas! It's not a Christmas song in the way Wonderful Christmastime is in that it is not exclusively associated with Christmas, but to try and argue against an association with Christmas that is now so marked the song has effectively become a Christmas song is frankly ludicrous. Anyway, I heard Paul co-wrote it with Santa.

I mentioned Mull because it's unlike him not to wheel out something special for Liverpool. He's also played Mull in Australia.

Maybe this is a UK vs. US thing, but I'd never for a millisecond thought of Mull as being associated with Christmas.

Cool. No Mull for you.
