Set List critique
-
So, once a new tour starts, what do you think will realistically happen to the setlist? Do you think the new show (probably 2016) will feature a 8-10 song change like Out There did? Or maybe 5-6 songs.
-
Temporary Secretary sounded great at the 02 show. A fantastic addition. Really miss Jet as the second song though. And do not understand why Save Us is still in the set - a lame weak tune not up to par with Paul's better rockers - not even close. Wish oh wish that No Values would find its way onto the set list - along with Silly Love Songs and No More Lonely Nights. Now that would be something! Really would be something

I'd much rather have "Jet" than hear "Save Us" for a third time. And I know it's not the cool macca-board opinion...but I'd much rather have "Coming Up" than "Temporary Secretary". "No Values" is probably even more obscure than "Temporary Secretary"...but who knows! I think "Silly Love Songs" and "No More Lonely Nights" are out of his range these days...

I was also thinking about this, with Temporary Secretary being played Paul has so many options he can realisticly include in a new show. So atm my guess is that the out there tour will conclude on 31st July.

So now I have your attention (maybe)..... I was at the Birmingham gig on the 27th....my 5th in 25 years. I have NEVER sat down at a concert by Macca . It was a brilliant concert as usual. But now I must have a moan. WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING PUTTING TEMPORARY SECRETARY ON THE SET LIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was truly awful....i sat down!! The audience went flat... there was muted applause afterwards... the Macca stepped up to the mike, held his hand out as if acknowledging how bad it was and said "I hear ya". Please PLEASE don't play it live again... it was awful when it was first released and is awful now ...sorry everyone but it has to be said. Sarah

I almost agree but it's nice to have a song that allows you time to nip to the toilet it used to be rough ride and later my loving flame . Also it's kind of nice for the younger folk in the crowd as this is played a lot in today's clubs. It's not a song I like either. paul acknowledged last night that most people will turn there phones off when it's played. I missed Jet from the setlist

I certainly dispute that it's played a lot in clubs - I've certainly never heard any DJ play it!! I actually found it surprisingly enjoyable in Liverpool last night and I'm not a fan of the song. Hope for the Future was the low point of the show, he lost the entire audience for 4 minutes!

not sure about losing the entire audience last night I think more people darted during I'm looking through you. I thought temporary sec sounded ok last night for an average song.

Interestingly, and supported by other posts from those in the audience, Paul has actually sung Maybe I'm Amazed quite well the past week or so. Amazing what his voice still has when he's really warmed up and psyched in the moment! I still believe he could pull off Silly Love Songs or No More Lonely Nights on a good night. Wish oh wish!!

his voice held out in Liverpool some people have said they held back on the screensduring maybe I'm amazed because he may have some help but I can't say I noticed. I did want jet back for Liverpool though it would have been a nice treat

I have to agree with Sarah here.

On the one hand, it is promising that TS is being played, ie Paul can and will play solo songs. On the other hand, there are so many cooler tunes he can play live, like Girls School, or Soily, or On The Way.

I never liked the song, actually it is one of his worst IMO. For the people that went crazy when he played it for the first time, to each their own. I would much rather hear solo songs like "Take It Away", "That Was Me'. "House of Wax", "I Can Bet", "Promise to You Girl", "Dance Til We're High" etc.

yes of course there are endless other songs I would prefer too!!! But on the other side TS is the first addition of a song after wings beyond the corresponding "new album songs" since 2002. Further exceptions were "Flaming Pie" and "Calico Skies" 2004-2010 and "Coming Up" 2002-03. IMO we shouldn't (always) complain about setlist changes which goes into the right direction. A few seems to miss "Jet". "Save us" isn't "Jet"... but instead of listen "Jet" a further time I'm happy to get "Save us" for the first time next sunday in amsterdam! Much more questionable is the fact that "Something" is still in the setlist or why songs like "All Together Now" or "Mr. Kite" are more important for Paul : : than all the great wings/solo songs yankeefan7, sarah1471 etc. called.

"yes of course there are endless other songs I would prefer too!!! But on the other side TS is the first addition of a song after wings beyond the corresponding "new album songs" since 2002." Understood and I gave Mr. McCartney credit for doing that even though I did not like the song in the O2 concert thread. "Much more questionable is the fact that "Something" is still in the setlist or why songs like "All Together Now" or "Mr. Kite" are more important for Paul " I agree (Something) and have suggested "All Things Must Pass" in other threads for his Mr. Harrison tribute. He has done the song a few times and sings it very well plus it is time for a change. I don't get "All Together Now" or "Benefit Of Mr. Kite" either, they are the last things Beatlewise I would want to hear from Mr. McCartney.

since hundreds responses I know we have mostly the same opinion . The ultimative key for our desire is Paul and his motivation for further ventures .

I have to disagree with you on this one! Temporary Secretary was ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT !!! People around me, who were familiar with the song, went wild also!! It is one of my top 10 songs and I never thought I would get to hear it live!! As far as I'm concerned, the two London shows were the best EVER shows that I've seen Paul play!! Hope For The Future was absolutely brilliant as well. My friends were ecstatic as well!! I know of quite a few people who are waiting until he comes to their town, just so they can hear these new additions! I understand that there are those people who know only his hit songs, however, Paul has an amazing catalogue and I don't understand why some people begrudge him for straying to some lesser known songs, that happen to also be Brilliant!! It seems diminishing of his true talent. Sit down if you must, or go to the bathroom, but please don't try to deny those of us who truly love the full range of Paul's musical genius, to hear some NEW songs

Temp Sec isn't a song I particularly love, but including it in the shows I saw in London didn't dampen the crowd too much at all! I would have preferred a song I love more, but it worked for me, far more disconcerting was the rush for the loo or drinks during Hope For The Future which I thought sounded great both nights. Apart from Queenie Eye most of the NEW songs were met with polite applause. It's a bit depressing that so few "fans" buy or listen to Paul's newer material these days, they're missing out on so much good to great stuff!
