Set List critique

RMartinez:
There are about fifteen Beatle songs written by or co written by Paul (From Me To You, I Want To Hold Your Hand, She Loves You) that he has yet to do in concert. From Wings and his solo career, there are probably almost as many gems he could put together. That would make a great new set list for 2016!
In other words: Another oldies set. Why not just book Paul McCartney on one of those PBS concert-specials and call it a day?

Always thought 'With a little luck' would be great to hear live. As for the early Beatles no's he co wrote with John, it's now or never!
No way in hell he could sing that today.

I Want To Hold Your Hand would be a head rush in the encores! And yes...It's possible to see between 10 and 15 new setlist additions, especially with no album to flog (presumably.) Whether or not we get heaps of new songs will be an indication of how lazy or not Paul has become. ...and a gauge as to whether or not I jump on a plane this year.

He could if he sang it in a key JD Sumner would be comfortable with.

Well, yeah. Do you REALLY think he is going to dig up old "gems" from Driving Rain and Chaos at this point? He isn't going to load the set with songs from the 80s. That was a low period for him in every sense of the word. I think the oldies set is set in concrete. May well enjoy what you can.

Thy speaketh the truth ↑ As much as everyone would like more of their own era, wholesale 80's, 90's and beyond just ain't gonna happen. Realistic wholesale changes are Beatles and pleasingly, Wings. And to be blunt, the emotional wallop that a live I Want To Hold Your Hand can deliver won't be felt by a live The Pound Is Sinking: and McCartney knows it. At his age, it's all legacy for whatever time he has left, but with changes and surprises to mix it up a bit. Although he doesn't mix up the setlist as much as we'd LIKE - his tours since 02 show he does mix it up more than we THINK!
-
His idea of a new tour is simply giving the same old tour a new name. Minimal changes to the set list. He should just do an Elton and set up shop in Vegas. He could surround himself with 10 backup singers, put on a dance show, break out the mirror ball and peddle his hokey Beatle schtick till the cows come home. That way, no-one could complain about his setlist or his voice. He can call it "The Magic Piano".

Hey, The Million Dollar Piano is a fantastic concert! And Elton still tours around the world also. Paul will also make some changes to his setlist for his upcoming tour, Out There Pt. II or whatever he chooses to call it. And the people will flock to see him, whatever and wherever he decides to play!

Sadly, I fear you're right.

It would have been great...in the twentieth century.

"Although he doesn't mix up the setlist as much as we'd LIKE - his tours since 02 show he does mix it up more than we THINK!" Yes, he has made changes it is just the changes he has made IMO. He will add Beatle song like "Benfit Of Mr. Kite" instead of doing something like "Take It Away".

If it is in fact a newly named tour, I would anticipate 8 to 12 brand-new or very seldom played songs to be added in. However, these would most likely replace 8 to 12 other recently added tunes that were new and now will never see the light of day again...thinking along the lines of "The Night Before" "I'm Down" "Listen To What The Man Said" "Junior's Farm"....

Don't know where else to put it so people would actually see it, but I popped in some random band t-shirt shop in Melbourne yesterday and they had quite a few leftover McCartney tour shirts in all kinds of sizes. One large 'Flaming Pie' promo shirt which I personally have never seen before, didn't look like a counterfeit. And then mainly two type of shirts from On The Run and Up & Coming: New York + Las Vegas, both 2011. Just a tip for those in the area, I believe there were 25 AUD. It was ehh... somewhere at Chapel St. Will try to dig up the address.

Chapel Street!.... Just down the road from me!.... alas, I fear the years of drinking beer, excess bicep curls and tricep push-ups... eh, and eating a lot of pizza.... but did I mention the bicep curls?.... might relegate most of those t-shirts ... "too small for toris!"

Probably Greville Records or Chapel St Bazaar...

Chapel St 168, next to Lord Of The Fries. I think it's a pop-up store, was open at 8pm with no other customers there, weird.

New tour-name will be around 10 changes indeed, but knowing from past experience mostly ones in the category of 'fairly new additions out, Beatles songs not played for one tour/leg in again'. Doesn't cut it for me any more, I'm afraid.

Do you guys think that the very positive responses to "Temporary Secretary" might inspire Macca to dig deeper into his solo catalog? I can live with Beatles and Wings, but it's about time that we get more solo gems.
