Set List critique

Bobbyb98:
Absolutely loved the setlist from last night... Wow. Great to see "Here, There and Everywhere" back in the mix, along with "Fool on the Hill" and "You Won't See Me." A nice surprise is also "In Spite of All the Danger." Hope he keeps a similar setlist at MetLife Stadium...
I saw him do Fool On The Hill in 1989 on a piano platform that went around in circles! I saw him do Here There and Everywhere in 1993 during his acoustic set! You Won't See Me and In Spite Of All The Danger were performed during the 2004 tour, I believe. If he isn't going to do any never been played before songs, mining what has been done in the past is the next best option.

I'm pretty happy with the set list. Stoked if I get to hear You Won't See Me live and Here There & Everywhere on piano. Also very happy that he's keeping some of my Wings favourites. I'll be bringing my son and daughter with me (daughter will be a first timer, she's 31). I guess I'm not considered a "super fan" if I only go once a tour? LOL

I would prefer You Won't See Me the way they did it in 2004. But anything at this point is better than nothing.

Just an observation, but the boardies with the fewest amount of posts seem to like the setlist, as-is. And those with higher post counts are less enthused.

My guess as to why is the people with lower counts are more likely "Beatle Paul" fans and the ones with higher counts have enjoyed and supported his solo career.

I understand some choices like Lady Madonna etc., but you can see - zero Paul solo songs as well. some Beatles, but not the best ones ;D Maybe the real, marvelous setlist is in preparation
I admire your never flinching optimism!
And representing the other end of the spectrum: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=91528 Ouch.

Not necessarily. There are some that haven't been in years and berate the setlist. Nothing can compare to being there, if you don't experience it you have no right to say it was bad!

I left Bonnaroo 2013 early. 'Nuff said?

maybe that's right in several cases. But there are people with lower counts like me and there are surely numerous guests here with the same opinion. I also often read here without login... I don't want repeat myself too much but the bad german ticket sale could be a parallel to our setlist discussion from tour to tour. I remember that the reviews from the last concerts not only here in germany (autria, and netherlands too) did discuss the setlist structure too. By the way I don't believe that after 15 years touring in us/europe most of the audience are first timers... At the end it's simply a question of the price-performance ratio. I don't know how serious the uncut interview from october 2015 was. At the end of the article was written: "He talks enthusiastically about his desire to perform a show where he is unshackled from playing "Hey Jude" and the big hits, and can instead focus on the lesser-known tracks from his catalogue." Today we can finally recognize that this will only happen in a mirrow universe.

Now that I've had some time, I'm looking back at the first dates of each tour since his return in '09...and as far as new additions when compared to the prior tour..."One on One" has quantity on its side. We got more freshness out of this than we did "Up and Coming" or "On The Run". I think the two reasons that we aren't perceiving it as that much of a surprise/success is... 1. Quality: A Hard Days Night was the only total shocker. All of the other tours in the past few years had at least three songs that hadn't EVER been played. Not even close to being the case here. 2. The "Out There" tour launch was pretty powerful, I think anyway. We had ten new songs in the set, half of which had NEVER been played live in any capacity, and the other five were equally untouchable in recent years. That's my analysis now that the heat of the moment has passed from last night for me!

I went to 5 Out There Shows, so I'd like to say that I know the problems of the set list. I would love to hear some solo songs that he has no chance of playing: Take It Away, Beautiful Night, House of Wax, Alligator - to name a few. But, if I had been in the audience last night, I would have been THRILLED to have been greeted with AHDN. I also would have left the arena hearing 8 new songs, so that's not too bad at all. And yes, more than 8 would have suited me just fine. However, I'm not going to change my arguments for bashing the set list to allow me to always complain. For example: "Play solo songs!!! Those casual 'Beatle Paul' fans, who don't own a single solo album can get over themselves." Becomes "Why is he playing THAT" when he adds Temporary Secretary, Hope for the Future, 4/5 Seconds... all of which fit the the previous demand. "Don't open with Eight Days or MMT please god" becomes "Why is he playing THAT" when he surprises everyone with AHDN. "Play something different" becomes "Well, he played that one 10 years ago"

Very, very true. As our guy says......it's a fine line...

I remember myself at the stadium in Belo Horizonte in May 2013... My first time at a tour opening! I was thrilled, excited, couldn't believe I was hearing Lovely Rita, Hi Hi Hi, Listen to what the man said, Your Mother should know, Mr. Kite, All Together now and others! Now I followed last night's show on Periscope and was pretty let down by it all. As I said on the Fresno thread, same doll, different hat. I understand that yesterday, Hey Jude, Let it be and the classics have to be in the setlist but why keep Mr. Kite which wasn't sung by him in the first place. If you saw Paul at least once from 1993 to 2015 you've probably heard enough Let me roll it. In the end, I think it all comes down to laziness. Paul just doesn't want to rehearse new songs he never played live. Because he could have easily replaced Mr. Kite with Martha My Dear and people wouldn't have gone to the toilet during the song. He could have replaced Let Me Roll it for a dozen other solo songs as well known. Rant over, in a bad mood today because Crowdsurge didn't fix their f*ck up yet. Love to all, Javi

Lol. You should see the field day Bruce fans are having on the message boards with his current tour. Complaints about the static setlists, no tour premieres....
What's the link? I fancy a good laugh compared to here, where we peak at tour premieres three shows in.
