While Inspite of all the Danger is obscure (and believe me I'd rather he play something else) at least he can introduce it as a song that he wrote with George Harrison. That's probably how he justifies it and can get away with it. There are certain solo songs he could add, like Hope Of Deliverance (at least in Europe and South America), Tug Of War, This One and My Brave Face, but stuff like Smile Away, Big Barn Bed, The Mess and Getting Closer? Nope. Nobody knows those except us harcore fans. I would love to see him perform more solo material (I'm a bigger fan of his solo career than the Beatles) but it's simply never going to happen. Most of his fans wouldn't care to see a show like that and Paul wouldn't risk it.
When did it become a risk for McCartney to play McCartney songs at a McCartney concert? What, exactly, is at risk? Is he afraid concert goers will leave saying " I can't believe he played a bunch of McCartney songs"?

I loved the entire experience. I've never had a special seat or package ticket of any type. I'm completely happy. I posted pictures of the stuff they gave us because one of the message board people asked, but if it works you can find it here http://s392.photobucket.com/user/cltaylor12/slideshow/ I brought a disposable Kodak camera for lack of anything else and I'll have a picture disc in a week so if any of the pictures happen to come out I'll try to post them. No 'snoozing' on my part - I stood for the entire show (sound check and show) in 4" heels and happy to have done so in his honor. I've never been to a McCartney show where people actually sat down, that part was also a first, LOL. I do miss having "All Together Now" and "Helter Skelter" no longer part of the regular set nor encore, respectively. Set list(s) Sound-Check: 1. Matchbox (awesome) 2. Honey Don't (warm) 3. Coming Up (I love this song) 4. Drive My Car (have this in the CD player in the car) 5. C Moon (surprised to hear this) 6. Let 'Em In (always love hearing this one) 7. I've Just Seen a Face (also in the CD player) 8. Every Night (surprised by this one) 9. It's So Easy (Buddy Holly) (not a Holly fan but I get it) 10. Every Night (wow) 11. Instrumental jam checking levels (I just wrang my hands together anxiously here) 12. Brief Ukulele snippet "Grandma" (very cute) 13. Bluebird (made me miss Linda) 14. Lady Madonna (of course) Show with Encore(s) A Hard Day's Night (completely unexpected) Save Us (okay with this) Can't Buy Me Love (surprised) Letting Go (to die for) Temporary Secretary (I LOVE THIS SONG) Let Me Roll It / Foxy Lady (also to die for, Foxy Lady I'm okay with, I get it) I've Got a Feeling (sure, nice) My Valentine (would like to not see Johnny Depp but I get it) Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five (love this song) Here There and Everywhere (very nicely done indeed, unexpected) Maybe I'm Amazed (THIS SONG RIPS ME UP TO THE CORE) We Can Work It Out (recovery from previous song) In Spite Of All The Danger (well played) You Won't See Me!!!! (completely unexpected, very very cool) Love Me Do!! (nice of course) And I Love Her (beautiful) Blackbird (sure, yes) Here Today (absolutely - and after this song I'm pretty sure I made eye contact and got pointed out because the people next to me who were standing confirmed it) Queenie Eye (great, well done, loved it) New (I'm fine with it) The Fool on the Hill (nicely done) Lady Madonna (of course) FourFiveSeconds (awesomeness) Eleanor Rigby (of course, Abe nailed it) Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite (I love the walking bass-line and noticed Paul finally did not look at his fingers during this; he has in the past, it's very cute). Something (beautiful as always) Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da (I didn't quite get the candy graphics in the background, *giggle) Band on the Run (sure, yes) Back in the USSR (of course) Let it Be (yep) Live and Let Die (GEEZ I didn't know we were close enough to have the heat off of the exploding things blow in our faces and move our hair, OMG) Hey Jude (The lady who was on the Fresno news station put "na na" 8-1/2 x 11 sheeets on the chairs of the first three rows for people to hold up, and some did so, nice touch). Yesterday (sure) Hi Hi Hi (I LOVE THIS SONG but it is just so filthy! I never understood why my mom didn't like the song until I got older and really paid attention to the lyrics, LOL) Birthday (my husband and I and a couple of friends get together and play this live when a party calls for it, so we're happy to hear it) Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weigh/The End (I really wanted to watch the graphics for this one but had to force myself not to and watch the guitars knowing it was the last song; it would be nice if there was 'video' like a youtube video of just the graphics that got shown so we can do a 'where's waldo" sort of thing in it but "where are the beatles" ) Happy. Lucky. Grateful. 2-1/2 hours two and 2-1/2 hours back. Did anyone get a survey from the venue? I did, they wanted to know how 'parking' was, LOL. Leaving was hard but I wasn't in a hurry so no big deal. I am a bit sad that we were in the Rec Center chilling when Paul arrived rather than being outside. It never occurred to me to go stand outside for a while, nor did it occur to me that he would just pull up to the front of the venue. I gave it no thought until I saw a youtube video about 31 seconds long of him arriving in a black SUV. Yep. Very happy. I wish more people had stood for the entire show like they usually do, but no big deal. If he can stand for the entire thing the least thing I can do is reciprocate the effort, and the people behind me apparently could see just fine, there was a nice space between the chairs, plenty of room really, elbow to elbow but still enough room to dance. Christine

You think it's cool he opened with a Lennon tune? If he would replace AHDN, Here Today, Mr. Kite, and Something with Hope Of Deliverance, Take It Away, Helen Wheels, and My Brave Face, it would change the tone of his show completely. Get over your Lennon complex!!

My understanding from interviews is that he simply plays songs that he enjoys playing, and he mixes it up when he feels like doing so. I think it's really that simple; no reason to over think it really. And IMHO any Paul McCartney fan is a hard core fan at this point; ditto if you're going to see Shatner in May in NoCal. These men don't have to tour, they want to because they enjoy it. Just having played the first recorded song during the little mini-center-stage-set was AMAZING. That's pretty obscure; the husband aka " he of encyclopedic knowledge" sang the first line while Paul was explaining what they were going to play. Pretty awesomely obscure and hard core. c-

Let?s saying that is difficult to measure who?s macca?s bigger fan but i?m pretty sure i?m one of the biggest! But with the new tour i think is the second time that macca let me down!I was expecting so much more!.......UUUAAAOOO so sad i?m feeling so sad why he doesn?t continue with the OUT THERE tour and goes to Australia.Argentina,Spain....he change the tour name for what? Everything is still the same!!!!!But macca, why you keeps a Lennon song(Mr Kite!!!!!) why open with a Lennon song!!!!wait a minute....the tour is a Lennon tribute?A tribute to a man who half of the time says bad, ugly things about you and his wife take his entire life saying bad things about you!!!!!!!!Please macca WAKE UP your solo output is going to dissapear compleatly make something for all your beautiful solo songs!!!!!!!!
-
The one on one tour begin....What an awful experience for being a macca fan since my 8 years old!But as much as i like Paul work, man and i like almost all of his solo work like i said here many times....Paul never ever had a good taste in promoting and choose his material NEVER except for the most part of the musical videos.See just the band on the run example! what if the Capitol guy don?t say to put out Jet as a single!!!????and let ringo choose the first single from Driving Rain From a lover to a friend what a wrong choice! and not put Mull of Kintyre in london Town or not put Goodnight tonight in Back to the Egg.....and with such a great rocker like The world tonight why put out a cheap video!!Dance tonight get a million times better video!!!!!!and make such a beautiful video with the 4th song from Flaming pie! too late right or a zillion times better video with little willow that not came out as a single!!!!Too much great work...too bad promoting!
-
Yep.
-
An example, how can`t he put Hope of deliverance in the set!!!!!You know Germany is a powerful nation, the motor of European union!and there his biggest solo hit was "Hope for deliverance" in fact in all continental Europe and in latin America !If you have half of the world(yes because in Canada was a hit too!)liking a song from you very very much how you don?t put that song in your live set!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I remember seeing the German fans saying the last time that he play in the country that if he don?t play that song better not come!!!it?s true!!!!and when i see macca in Portugal the people in the tv news only asking for one song guess what!!!!!??????i even see a mother says that the song that she sings to his son and the only one that he knows from macca is "Hope..."!!!!!Explain me how you put out that song i don?t understand?!
-
I'm not going to this tour so it doesn't really matter, but all it would take to make me happy would be for him to swap out 4 songs to throw a bone to the hardcore fans while keeping plenty for the masses. My suggestions: Let Me Roll It --> That Was Me I've Got a Feeling --> My Brave Face Here There and Everywhere --> Wanderlust Blackbird --> Put It There I know it won't happen, but I don't think this is too much to ask, really. My fantasy set would be much heavier on post-1990 material, but I've pretty much given up on that .

I would go back to the soundcheck songs, they could easily be brought in to the main show, why not try; Coming Up for Save us Let em in for Maybe Im amazed Every Night for Eleanor Rigby Just on another point when it comes to Beatle's songs, i would say people may not associate them as separate compositions i.e a John or Paul song, but Beatles as a whole restrospective of who wrote them. I for one when first getting into their music thought the whole catalogue were 50/50 Lennon/Mccartney tunes , I only discovered later on that this wasnt the case. Because Pauls singing AHDN as the opener it goes down a storm as its well known and by the fab four.
A very good point. Although, I'd argue that Let Em In really wouldn't be that "new", but it sure would sound better than Maybe I'm Amazed. And he'd probably be more likely to through in Every Night (and why not Bluebird too!) into the acoustic band set than replace "Eleanor Rigby". While I don't find it necessary to play every single show, it's clear that it is not going anywhere.
Imagine if he would do "Little Willow" or "Early Days" in the acoustic set, I would be a happy man.
I don't think he could do vocal justice to either of them live, even though I would like to hear them...it's not gonna work night after night.

Maybe not "Little Willow" but I think he could handle "Early Days" since his vocal on the record was not that strong. Plus, could he sound any worse on either of these than he does on "Maybe I'm Amazed" - just saying.

He could introduce "Little Willow" as a tribute song to Maureen Starkey who died of cancer and the song was effort to comfort Ringo's children. It is a beautiful song and would be wonderful in acoustic set. I could not imagine people not loving this song.
That would be nice, but I doubt 90% of his audience know who Maureen is. Heck, as sad as it is, I wonder how many fans under 30-35 even have a connection to Linda at this point, considering she passed away 18 years ago.
OK, you may have a point. He could introduce it by saying this was written for Ringo's children when they lost their mother to cancer. I think crowd would know Ringo - lol.
