P.S. I agree he should take his wife to see Paul, but isn’t it too late to get 2 decent seats anywhere?
There is always the secondary market if you have money to burn (lol) or as "oobu24" mentioned, they release additional seats.
What's the "secondary market"? Scalpers? I thought that's illegal.

No, like TicketsNow or StubHub. All quite legal, but prices will be higher.

. To hear the same Beatle and Wings' songs time and time again is not the reason we are passionate fans. To do only 3 ES songs (and 2 of the 3 are not the best ones in my opinion) is a disgrace to the true fans who are always buying his products. I would rather hear 6 to 8 ES songs than to pay money to hear so many of the same songs that he has been playing over the last 8 years. Yes, he has to play the real "signature songs" but so many that he constantly plays are not.
I should not anticipate what Paul actually does regarding 2019 Setlist until they occur, but like you, I just have a bad feeling. Here's hoping that we're both wrong.
I just checked out his set list from the London show on Dec 16 and the only thing I could see him cutting in favor of a song from "Egypt Station" is "Queenie Eye" and "Dance Tonight". There are a bunch of songs we both think he could get rid of (exp My Valentine, Let Me Roll It ) but know he would never do it.

Peachy w/ me if he'd cut "Queenie" as I don't especially like that song. "Dance Tonight" is a fave. By "The Freshen Up Tour" he must have meant adding a horns section...maybe he'll show us that's not all he meant by that title. That means the first leg of the new tour missed out, though. Pity.

I like "Dance Tonight, cute and bouncy song but he has done it for awhile so the world would not end if he replaced it.

I wish he'd drop some of the worn out 50 year old songs that he won't drop the key on. They should be replaced with songs from the last 20 years.

I agree, do first timers or anybody else really care if he did not play "In Spite Of All Danger" and "Benefit of Mr. Kite". Would love to have those two replaced with anything in the last 20 years that he has not played live.

Agreed, although I do kind of have a soft spot in my heart for ISOATD. Why he chose Mr. Kite, though, is beyond me! Do In My Life if you have to do a John song!

Why do a John song at all? That is what gets me and others on this board. He has no problem doing some fairly obscure Beatle song because it is "the Beatles" (lol) but will not do a solo song that was top 20 hit for him like "Take It Away". Geez, the man had the number #1 album in the country and can't do more than 3 songs from it.

We might as well give up trying to figure out why Paul does what he does. He is a mystery wrapped in an enigma!
-
Paul Mc. doesn't like to be pressured, and will always do what he wants, what he likes, don't you get that impression. He's used to having his way. He'll play what he wants to play. And moves in mysterious ways (wink, wink).

IMO he is not hard to figure out in regards to set list. He wants to please the first timers and play Beatle heavy set list that allows him to charge high price for tickets. At this point, he has no desire to work on really mixing up his set list. He is also a man who does not like to hear criticism and it takes a very strong personality (ex. Nigel Godrich) to tell him a song may suck and he needs to do better. As for his selection of songs to keep on an album or selecting singles, that is one area I can't figure him out especially because he makes the wrong decision IMO so many times.

Just looked at the setlist for one of the last shows (12/14/18) in Glasgow. I think it is quite easy if Paul is motivated to provide a much truer "freshen up"show while giving the 1st timers (and mainly Beatle crowd) what they have paid lots of money to see, and give the "true" hard core fans what they want...namely new songs they haven't heard in concert before. If I was Paul, here's what I would do or consider:
1. Starting with the signature songs he has to play for the 1st timers and mainly Beatle crowd. Here is my list of true "signature" songs including a couple of 70's Post Beatle big hits he has to play:
*Blackbird, Eleanor Rigby, Band on the Run, Back in the USSR (the last 2 songs go great back to back), Let It Be, Live and Let Die, Hey Jude and maybe Ob La Di (before Band on the Run because everyone knows it and it gets the crowd really going)
2, A few earlier Beatle songs to take advantage of the Beatlemainia and Mid period Beatle phase that many in the audience love and know (first timers especially) including the first two that he has fairly rercently added:
*Love Me Do, From Me to You, and a few others that he has played in the past like...All My Loving, Can't Buy Me Love, We Can Work It Out, I've Just Seen a Face
3. Opening song
* I still like Hard Day's Night and have no problem with it especially for the 1st timers and Beatle lovers
4. Emotional songs for John and George
*Again I don't mind Here Today and Something (the latter again is great for the 1st timers and the huge Beatle crowd)
5. Songs to tie into Paul's new "Horn section"...this ties into the Freshen Up theme especially for the harder core fans.
* Got to Get You Into My Life, Letting Go, Let 'em In, Lady Madonna
_____________________________________________________
If you keep the large majority of the songs above in the setlist, you have plenty of room to shake the concert up a lot but still have the first timers and Beatle crowd very happy. Here's a few suggestions:
6. Instead of Maybe I'm Amazed replace it with "I Don't know"another piano number but brand new that Paul can sing much better. He had been playing it in a few of the 2018 Soundchecks
7. Instead of My Valentine for Nancy, play Happy With You from Egypt Station. This is a perfect song for Nancy.
8. Instead of 1985, play Dominoes from Egypt Station another great new song.
9. Continue playing Who Cares from Egypt Station and maybe "Come On To Me" since both are rocking numbers and you can use the new "Horn players" with the latter.
10. Personally I would love a "World peace, unity" type of theme during the latter part of the show and "People Want Peace" from Egypt Station would be a great addition. It would be new and fresh and the Beatles' were always about Peack and Love.
There are a couple of other Egypt songs I would love to see added like the closing track...Hunt You Down, Naked etc, Confidante (would love to see if Paul could do a better vocal) and Hand in Hand as a new love song.
I agree with Yankeefan and others that there are other current songs that can be eliminated to "Freshen Up" the show like Let Me Roll It To You, 1985, My Valentine, I've Got a Feeling, In Spite of all the Danger etc, but it takes motivation from Paul to do it. As I said before, he can stay with the same setlist and still sell out practically all the show with littler work. I'm hoping that Paul is starting to think about his legacy and play new songs that he hadn't played before.

Sorry for the typos. I was in a rush to run an errand.
As far as the last paragraph, I'm basically saying that I think Paul is happy with the setlist because his shows keep "selling out" at record prices with little or no problem. Why should he go to the trouble and hard work of really changing up the setlist when the model he is doing is working so well. He once recently said in a Japanese press conference about why he doesn't mix up his setlist. Paul's reply was something to the effect...I'm not against making changes but what would I take out. As a big time fan, I wonder if Paul is delusional thinking that his entire setlist including the songs listed above for possible removal (plus For the Benefit of Mr. Kite?) are "signature"songs.
Hopefully, he will get angry with the Grammy's considering Egypt Station garnered no nominations for this year's Grammy Awards. Hopefully this will motivate him to sing 8-10 songs from ES. Maybe he needs to get angry like he did in the mid 70's and did a tour as adventurous as Wings Over America.

It is his signature song for Linda and it will never go away even though he has not sung it well for many years. "I Don't Know" would have to replace another song to be added to set list.
-
I agree, perfect way to add song from "Egypt Station" and it is for Nancy. I like it much better than "My Valentine" which I have heard does not go over well live . I guess it is up to Nancy -lol.
-
1985 is great Wings song and crowd reacts to it, not going anywhere IMO. I like "Dominoes" but it would have to replace another song IMO.
-
I agree and think they will both stay in set list.
-
I like the song but not sure how well it would go over live. Songs the crowd don't know have to be uptempo and catchy and this one might be bathroom break for the first timers.
My overall opinion is I would be happy if he just added songs from Egypt Station from 3 to 6 and not that fussy which ones he would add. If he adds 6 news songs than the title of his tour is at least a bit more valid. As for his legacy, sadly I think in McCartney's opinion it starts with "The Beatles" and ends with "Wings".

That was absolutely shocking to me. Album got excellent critical reviews and hit the charts at #1. Heck, they even nominate more albums for the best album award and it still did not make it. Let's face it, this was probably his last shot at a Grammy award and a perfect time to honor one of the all time great songwriters and rock icon of all time. In addition, it is not like they would have nominated him as a career achievement award, this is excellent album.

Paul better not even think of dropping "1985"!!! In every concert I have attended since that magical moment in Phoenix in 2014 (maybe 8 to 10 shows) when he sang this amazing song for the first time, it goes over like a sledge hammer. Hey, I love, love, love "Dominoes" (probably my favorite song on Egypt Station), but not too sure it would go over live. But to a diehard Wings fan, "1985" is my Hey Jude.
-

This is exactly why he needs a "John Lennon" or "Nigel Godrich" type in his camp. He needs somebody who will speak the truth to him and that he might actually listen to them. I am guessing his team (including the band) and family are basically yes man and everything he does they tell him it is great. How could he possibly think that first timers would really care if he did not play "Benefit For Mr. Kite". We all know the important songs that most fans want to hear which you listed and I just can't imagine somebody going to see McCartney for the first or second time saying that they really hope he does "Benefit For Mr. Kite" - lmao !!! The other thing is McCartney seems to think any obscure Beatle song is much better than his solo songs which is unfortunate.

Totally agree about 1985. And he can still sing that song.
