Set List critique

Let's be honest, Paul can continue to offer concerts thanks to the second voice of the great ABE LABORIEL JR.
I've seen more than 20 Paul concerts since 1989 and I know what I'm talking about, the vocal change since then is brutal ... well, he's 76 years old ... what more can we ask of him! Let no one think of big changes to the songs set list.
Agreed. I have stated many times, Paul should shorten the show, ditch the extended soundchecks, and lower the keys to his songs to accomodate his vocal range.
Abe is doing most of the lead singing(dare i say), and Paul is more of a guide vocal at this stage. When Paul has to do solo singing without Abe, you can hear how "wobbily" it is. Just listen to Let It Be from the other night. Not good.

Where are BJ, Yankeefan, Bruce M and others complaining about him singing the same songs at all his concerts? It wouldn't be fair to the first leg of the new tour if they missed out on a bunch of new offerings, would it. Looks like they're not missing out.

BJ has posted recently, but not since the Chile concert, Yankeefan told me he’s taking a break from the board, and Bruce just put his 2 cents in yesterday.

I'm warming to the idea of Paul ( & Band ) going on stage and miming to the studio recordings. So long as Paul is there in person and all the backing films, lighting fx and fireworks are in place, would anyone be that bothered?

I've actually commented in the threads about recent S. America shows. But given how rarely he sounds good live these days, I mostly just hope he retires from touring soon.

At least it would sound great! Paul would rather die than do that though. (I know you were probably jk!)

Bruce I respect your opinion, and your entitled to it, but my opinion is why stop when he makes so many fans enjoy a great concert, he's making fans happy!! All the people who sell out his shows over and over and over again including myself, who really enjoy the concerts which sell out arenas and concert halls all over the world all the time would be disappointed. If you enjoy his concerts like I do go..., if not don't go. I think he will stop when he's ready or stops selling out over and over again. Just an opinion from a guy who love MACCA concerts!

Because I don't want to see Paul embarrass himself, and he's coming close lately. The comparison that comes to mind -- which I've mentioned before -- is Muhammad Ali's last fights, which were just sad. I don't ever want to see Paul like that. Better to go out on a high note.

Well in the last four McCartney shows I have attended (Austin 2018, Des Moines 2017, Omaha 2017, and Wichita 2017), Paul sounded just great. I wasn't embarassed at all, and pretty sure McCartney wasn't either. And the legions of screaming fans seem to enjoy themselves too. And watching You Tube videos and then making a decision on Paul's voice is well, weak. They absolutely do not recreate the actual sound at the shows. Counting down the days to McCartney shows in Moline and Arlington!!

You can't really judge much in a baseball stadium with nonexistent acoustics and 40,000 cheering fans. The videos are actually a much better representation. Of course the recording quality isn't great, but you can tell the difference between poor recording and weak singing, and it's obvious he's struggling at times -- just as he has on a number of TV appearances, where you can't blame poor cell phone quality. Until about the last 10 years there were zero recordings of Paul live that were painful to listen to, and now they're fairly common. I take no joy in saying this, but prefer not to ignore reality.

100% correct. Its not that we are being harsh, its just being honest. To say he sounded great is ridiculous. You do not need the ears of Dumbo to hear the obvious strain in nearly every tune. Abe is carrying the load, and should he find a new gig Paul will be left scrambling.
I'm sitting this tour out, as the setlist is stale, and I do not wish to hear him like this. This is the start of the tour, and his voice is struggling already. Can only imagine what it will sound like in June. If you have tickets to one of his back to back gigs IE vegas#2 it could be painful

The three McCartney shows I attended in 2017 WERE NOT in baseball stadiums with 40,000 fans. They were in enclosed arenas with 15,000 fans. Check the facts Bruce. Austin 2018 was outdoors, yes, but the acoustics were very good and yes, Paul sounded great. IMO, reality is ACTUALLY attending a concert in person and making a sound decision, instead of listening to a cell phone recording from the 50th row. Yes, his voice is weaker, duh, but the shows are still incredible; exciting, thoughtful, loud, and thrilling.

It's your perogative whether you go or not, as for me I'll join the fans at his mostly sold out shows and enjoy him while he's still playing. I think the last 3 concerts had over 100,000 fans.

Pyro failure!

I don’t think it was a failure. Maybe they weren’t allowed to use it at that venue.

Everyone was saying that Paul was looking around like something was wrong. Hard to tell from that video. Did you see his ending note on the piano?

Yes, what about it? *confused* I guess we might find out in the next What You’re Doing if he reveals there was a failure.

^ He just banged on the piano for the last note. It took the place of the explosion that is usually there.

No, the sound is not better in a basketball arena, fer god's sake. They're not designed for acoustics. The echo and crowd noise cover a multitude of sins. But if you prefer imaginary Paul to real Paul, go and enjoy. I prefer to treasure the memories of when he sounded decent.
