Set List critique

I would also put Letting Go back in the setlist. IMO one of the best live renditions of any song by Paul in the last 10 years at least. Saw him perform Letting Go live in Miami in 2010 and it was a knockout - he was completely there vocally as well - on that one song at least he sounded like '76 Paul - really amazing. I would also put Jet back in the set - really miss that one. Don't care for "Save Us" at all - sounds like a generic /weak /uninspired tune - no grit or punch vocally or melodically - a throwaway filler track at best. I would also add She's A Woman as he performed it in '04 - he sang it really great then
-
I think "Blackbird" is going to be there forever. My suggestion would be to up the set to forty songs and delete a few. Added songs Young Boy Jet Silly Love Songs Dropped songs and songs added in place My Valentine ----> No More Lonely Nights Eleanor Rigby ----> On My Way To Work Here Today ----> Early Days Couple other things we could have is rotation of songs... One night he could play "Day Tripper" and the next night "Birthday". Same thing as the "Get Back"/"I Saw Her Standing There" rotation we usually see. Another suggestion is to drop "I've Just Seen a Face" for "Things We Said Today" as for TWST hasn't ever been in the main set since '89/'90. So here's what we've got Solo Songs - 10 Wings - 8 Beatles - 22 Not the best improvement but it's much better than the old stats ---- Eight Days a Week Save Us All My Loving Listen to What the Man Said Jet Let Me Roll It / Foxy Lady Paperback Writer No More Lonely Nights Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five The Long and Winding Road Maybe I?m Amazed I?ve Just Seen a Face We Can Work It Out Another Day And I Love Her Blackbird Early Days New Queenie Eye Lady Madonna All Together Now Lovely Rita Everybody Out There On My Way To Work Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! Something Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da Band On the Run Back in the U.S.S.R. Let It Be Live and Let Die Hey Jude Encore: Day Tripper Hi, Hi, Hi Silly Love Songs Get Back Encore 2: Yesterday Young Boy Helter Skelter Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End

I agree. "Save Us" is pretty weak live. It doesn't exactly have the punch that "Letting Go" has or "Junior's Farm" or "Jet" at that matter.

Whaaaaat?!? Save Us ROCKED! Not as much rocking as Jet, but I think I prefer it to Letting Go and Junior's Farm for sure.

I think he's touring Out There with the strongest set list since the US Tour in 2005. [..]
Oh, the irony . /bittereuropean
-
I bet he will change the name of the tour next year, which is when there will be significant changes to the setlist.
-
These alternate setlits have some great inclusions -- but the biggest problem amongst all of them are the encore sets. It is time to shake that up, too.
-
I think the set list is fine maybe a few songs can be changed like I'd love to hear ones from his older solo albums too like Off the Ground and a few more from Flaming Pie. But songs like Live and Let Die, and a few other Wings and Beatles songs should remain on the set list. I'd love to hear him play "Freedom" again that was a good one. Friends to Go would be another nice one to play too. But other than that Paul's shows are just fantastic even if he still plays the same songs. Live and Let Die though is like the best out of the bunch because of the firework display and the fast lighting!

Some ancedotal evidence can be seen in the Fargo, ND (concert) thread, which seems to be dying a fairly quick death...which I presume can be attributed to a lack of change in the set list...how often can we describe/discuss the same set list over and over again?

yep...I said that in another thread. The albany was the most exciting because we were all doing setlist watch too & discussing it as he sang them. Of course it also depends how many people are members here too...but I think you brought up a good point Rich.

That's my big thing. I've really been okay with the first half of the show from year to year. I think that changes a reasonable amount, even if it isn't a balanced within his full catalog, at least it is pretty different. It's the final half of the show that needs help and I get it, he is NEVER dropping Let it Be, Hey Jude, Yesterday etc. and I don't think she should! But many fans not only know that he is playing them, but they know WHEN he is playing them, which can easily be changed.

I was at Fargo. I give whoever gets on here during the live show and posts live so much credit. It gets too overwhelming for me. I sometimes can hardly record cause I get so into the show and get overwhelmed. I couldn't come on here and talk about it. I was soo surprised at the crowd at Fargo. They were so into the concert. They shocked me. I was expecting quietness from them and sitting down a lot. I underestimated them. They hardly sat down. Even during the NEW songs they were up and into it. I wasn't at Albany, Chicago, or Pittsburgh, but this crowd rocked!! They were really really one of my best concert experience crowds. Everybody was polite and nobody have anybody crap. It was a packed house! Some people were even in the aisles dancing toward the end.
-
I'm glad the tickets picked up their pace as showtime neared. But judging by how long it took him to get to Fargo, I'm guessing he won't be back again.

I friggin' hope not :'). The loss of 'Your Mother Should Know' is bad enough. Another US 2005 tour trauma. 2,5 years and counting...

The old showbiz adage: Great audiences make great shows. Glad they dug the NEW songs.

FARGO crowd did rock.
-
Paul's 1st show back after his...illness.

Glad to hear the crowd in Fargo ND gave Paul a great reception. I think it is cool that Macca is visiting some of the remote areas around the US. As I said in a previous post, I do think it is an absolute shame that Paul isn't into throwing out a total surprise song based on where he is performing. And in this case and as others have mentioned, the obvious song (a Beatles song I might add) was Rocky Raccoon. In this day of technology, it would give instant national publicity to the tour. It would have been the talk of the Fargo show. With 38 songs, it seems easy to perform one surprise somewhere in the Set. Nothing fancy but in this case, a little acoustic rendition of Rocky Boy would do. You know far in advance that you are playing in Fargo ND so just have Rusty brush up on the song in advance of the tour. Paul just has to sing. Even if he messes up a bit on the lyric, the audience would still love it. Even from a sales point of view, you would think that Paul would want to start developing a collection of rare tour songs for a CD at some point. Not trying to be critical but I just wished Paul and company would show a little creativity in advance of the shows. As far as hyping the tour, there wouldn't be a better way than coming up with a little, one song surprise to many shows as possible. You can only go so far with a fan or two coming up on stage.
