Set List critique

Some predictions for this evenings show in Spokane:
* Opener- I wanna hold your hand/ Get Back/One after 909.
* My guess is that the Egypt Station songs will be cut and replaced with Mccartney 3 songs.
* Either Can't buy me Love or All my Loving and We can work it out or I've Just seen a Face.
* would guess that the rest of the show follows similar pattern to Paul's last tour though would say he will prob drop Back in the Ussr (for obvious reasons) and could replace with Penny Lane or Good Day Sunshine.
* Encore: I saw her standing there or Birthday, Helter Skelter and Golden Slumbers to finish off

Based on this screen capture that I made from the rehearsal footage I'm hopeful that With A Little Luck he'll sing a song from the London Town album:

I would love to hear "With a Little Luck", but I don't think he is going to shake things that much at this point.
-
Wondering how With A Little Luck will sound tonight. Hoping Paul can still do that upper register rock & roll belting towards the end!

What if he did the song "London Town"?

Very disappointing opener and setlist is notihng to get excited about IMO. The only good thing I will say it is not dominated by Beatle songs but I am sure that will be later. Still has "Let Me Roll It' that he has played to death. Not thrilled he did "Come On To Me" again. Shocked that he has not done "Find My Way" yet but did "Women And Wives from "McCartney III". "Getting Better is decent addition, has not done that in many years. Always love "1985" so glad that is being played.
-
While I had higher hopes for the setlist, there's currently six songs on it that I've never heard and I'll be blessed to see Paul for the 15th time and finally in my hometown, this June. I'm excited and lucky that there's anything new in the show for me at all! I'm also glad to see three songs that have been in EVERY show I've seen, finally get a break: Eleanor Rigby, Back in the USSR, and Yesterday.
That being said, I hope he can concoct a more thrilling opener. "Can't Buy Me Love" is also a tough start, vocally. It's completely exposed 100% vocals to start the show. Not really much of an "opener". As I mentioned elsewhere, I'd love to finally hear "Hello, Goodbye", a much more fitting number...and would particularly love some more material from McCartney III. I'm shocked that just one random track (that strikes me as a drag for a STADIUM concert) is in the set. "Find My Way" or "Seize The Day" would make more sense.
Anyway, Cheers! I'll come back May 2nd and see if any shuffling occurs!

There's 4 songs in last night's show that I've never heard Esp addition of 'Getting Better '. Would be tempted to see Paul in concert again should he announce Uk/Europe tour dates. So from last tour it look as though the following were dropped: let em in, From me to you, Eleanor Rigby, Back in the Ussr, who cares, all my loving and juniors farm.

Well, we KNOW he will do Get Back even though he can't do it justice anymore.
I agree with you guys about the removals and swapping out he should do. Instead of Something, why couldn't he blow our minds and do While My Guitar Gently Weeps? Abe could help with the high notes! And ANYTHING but Mr. Kite for John! In My Life would be fantastic, but again, there's those pesky high notes. (he could falsetto the end)
For someone who is a known perfectionist, he sure is lazy about re-learning songs!!
Get Back sounds pretty good in the youtube clip to me !

Where can I find the set list for Spokane ?

I haven't seen the full setlist for the Spokane Show either. Disappointed that he dropped "Who Cares"and he didn't add Dominoes or I Don't Know. Am really disappointed that he did only 1 song from McCartney 3. How do you not add "Find My Way", "Seize the Day" or "Slidin". So glad I didn't go to the "Spokane" show. Will be interesting if he adds anything to the Seattle or Oakland shows.

I followed the concert for awhile last night on twitter feed (thanks Nancy) and then gave up. I am beyond disappointed which I said last night and will give full rundown here. See below.
-
Big anticipation on this tour was the song he would play for an opener, many were hoping for the classic "I Want To Hold Your Hand" or maybe "Get Back" due to the documentary and give the tour some buzz. "Can't Buy Me Love" is good uptempo Beatle song but has been done on several tours and does not give the show a "wow" factor in the beginning. Think of the youtube hits if he did "I Want To Hold Your Hand".
-
Paul only does one song from his Grammy nominated album and the one he does is "Women And Wives" - WTF. Newflash to Paul, "Find My Way" was nominated by Grammy voters as "Best Rock Song" and was your lead single from the album. In addition, there were other excellent songs like "Slidin" or "Seize The Day" off "McCartney III".
-
"In Spite Of Danger" and "Benefit Of Mr. Kite" are not top tier Beatle songs associated with Paul and he plays them again on this tour, really. Can't imagine first timers going last night saying before the show that they hope he plays either one of these songs. - lol.
-
Once again, he plays the same songs from "Egypt Station" when he had other excellent songs from that album he could have played. He plays "Come On To You" which is incredibly repetiitve at the end with Paul repeating the chorus over and over again for about a minute. Just my opinion but a man almost 80 singing song about coming on to a woman looks like a old fool. Then he chooses "Fuh You" which is known for the sounding like he is saying the F* word.
-
I will give him some credit for at least playing some solo songs for a couple of tours but "Queenie Eye" needs to go. Myself and Nancy mentioned last night why not "I Can Bet" from "New". The same thing goes for "Dance Tonight", fun song but included on tour since MAF came out. Why not play "That Was Me" from MAF which is a better song.
-
Once again, he plays "My Valentine" for his wife Nancy. I get he wants to dedicate song to his wife but it is "bathroom break" song and he could play something like "Happy With You" that BJ suggested as song for her to change things up.
-
He seemed to tell same stories again, believe it was mentioned by a few board members on the "Spokane" thread.
-
Hard to give real accurate account of his voice from twitter feed but it seemed his voice on slow numbers like "Blackbird" was shaky. To me he did not sound horrible but he was so much better even 5 years ago.
-
Finally, Paul sends twitter message asking people what they wanted to hear while he was rehearsing. Outside of his standard Beatle songs, can't imagine he got any requests that he played last night.
10) The one highlight to me was having screen of Lennon singing on "I've Got A Feeling", very cool idea.

I listed the songs in a post after yours. I have posted a couple of times about being disappointed. Not a show I would be interested in shelling out well over $100 a ticket to see. That being said, it was a good show for the first timers and people who could care less about his 40 year solo career. I will check out the next show to see if there are changes but really doubt there will be any significant change - oh well. Time to check out the Spokane newspaper reviews, will be interesting to read. Usually these reviews are done by fan boys/girls and they are fairly clueless to anything past his days with Wings.

Thanks for the setlist rundown Yankeefan for the opening show (Spokane). I'm glad I didn't stay up!
Like you, I'm extremely disappointed. Thank God I didn't pay the money for this show. No wonder they didn't need much rehearsing.
Biggest disappointment... Only 1 song from McCartney 3. How about "Seize the Day", "Find My Way" or Slidin at the very least.
He does "Can't Buy Me Love" as the opener? "Find My Way" would be just as easy for him to sing as "Can't Buy Me Love". Show some nerve at least. I could have said some other words but I chose not.
And he does the 2 weakest songs from Egypt Station? Are you kidding me! He did those same 2 songs on the last tour. How about "I Don't Know" which he did several time in rehearsal on the last tour. How about Dominoes, Happy With You or Even"People Want Peace" which would had been a good choice for the people in Ukraine. The man can't be more creative than this considering it was 3 years sonce the last tour.
I love the man and my only explanation is that he currently has little confidence with his voice.
Now more than ever I want a Leftovers/Rarities type of CD from Macca. At least we would get a great "new" CD when Macca could really sing. Something like what I listed in another thread would at least be for the hard core fans.
Maybe he will get a lot of negative feedback on this setlist and throw in more "additons" at the Seattle and/or Oakland Shows which are coming next.
Did I say that I was disappointed?

"Biggest disappointment... Only 1 song from McCartney 3. How about "Seize the Day", "Find My Way" or Slidin at the very least. "
Of all the songs he picks, it is "Women And Wives", unbelievable -lol.
"He does "Can't Buy Me Love" as the opener? "Find My Way" would be just as easy for him to sing as "Can't Buy Me Love". Show some nerve at least. I could have said some other words but I chose not."
Exactly. Even if you don't want to open with solo song at least pick a Beatle song you have not done live.
"And he does the 2 weakest songs from Egypt Station? Are you kidding me! He did those same 2 songs on the last tour. How about "I Don't Know" which he did several time in rehearsal on the last tour. He keeps those two songs but drops "Who Care", freaking wow. Like you mentioned, plenty of other good songs from that album that he could have done.
"I love the man and my only explanation is that he currently has little confidence with his voice."
I believe that is true but the songs we want him to do were recorded when he was in his late 70's so it is not like we are compaing his voice now to songs done when he was young man.
"Maybe he will get a lot of negative feedback on this setlist and throw in more "additons" at the Seattle and/or Oakland Shows which are coming next."
He did get a little negative feedback on this board for his opener and some of his other selections but the media will just fawn all over him. Read the Spokane "review", it is a joke.
"Did I say that I was disappointed?"
You and me and maybe a few others but you know the majority will come on here and say it was awesome.

Funny all of the MPL Twitter requests before the show about "what would you like Paul to play on your dream set list." Lazy Dynamite? How about Lazy Setlist?

Excellent point. Why bother asking if you are going to ignore it?
