Target stores phasing out CDs?

I asked the store clerk where more were, and was told Target was phasing out selling CDs and DVDs because more people are getting music and movies from streaming and download services.
Wanted to ask if anyone has noticed this at their local Target stores, and if this is the beginning of a new trend?
I only buy CDs and DVDs from Amazon. Haven't been to Target in ages.

Yeah, didn't Best Buy get rid of them too? (haven't been in there in a year and a half!)

Here in the UK the supermarket chain Sainsburys stopped selling cds/dvds/vinyl earlier this year and I suspect other supermarkets will follow suit if they haven't already done so. Locally we only have the HMV store left for buying new media related product.

I rarely go to Target (or most stores if I don't have to) , but when or if I did - and I looked around - I would see the entertainment area - look through CDs (the selection that they did have and try and find a low priced one - which usually was not a "just released" one).
This reminds me of when the record stores at the time stopped selling vinyl or cut way back. I went there to get a new Paul record - just released (usually they would have a large stack of them displayed) ... I saw a store poster of the Album, but nothing there. I asked and they said they may have seen one - if not they would order one. I asked how many do they order and they said only one, unless I wanted more. That was a shock at the time. Most of those type of record stores don't exist today.
it has been a long time since I went into a store to buy a record, cassette. CD, electronic noise ... usually I do get them Online or as gifts.

it's not just Target, Best Buy as well is very limited in CD's. Barnes And Noble still has a decent selection of CD's. I also get CDs & DVDs from Amazon - prices are usually better & free shipping with Amazon Prime.

Except that most people resorted to Amazon because Best Buy, WalMart and Target and any and all other retail stores stopped carrying CDs. Borders used to exist and they had a huge selection of CDs...then they went out of business in the Washignton D.C. area, so.....

I'm so sad that my Target and my Walmart has been phasing out CD's. Don't prefer buying online and returns are costly. Covid must have had something to do with it too.

I don't think I've ever returned a CD I purchased online. One time a Ringo one came damaged and they asked for photos of it and replaced it. Didn't have to return it to Amazon!

The last music store I set foot in a few years ago had very few cd's; perhaps more vinyl & are focused on merchandise like tee's, posters, music books etc. My most recent instore purchase was vinyl McCartney 3 to complement my original 1 & 2. As we all know cd's /dvd's days are numbered. My last online cd purchase was the most recent (seems ages ago) was the latest Macca Archive. I've never had to return a cd/dvd but Amazon is good at returns & pay for the shipping on a few items we've purchased.

I hope CDs and DVDs are around longer. I like to have the physical product (of The Beatles and their solo stuff) plus their movies and certain other franchises like Star Trek, Outlander etc.

This was my favorite go to store to get all of Paul's new CD's as well as lots of The BeaTles CD's . When Paul had a new CD out, there was always something Paul recorded that would play on a tape loop, along with the other artists with new CD's. Always enjoy hearing what Paul had to say.
