Considering the setlist was the same old, same old, I wonder if t's really wise for an 80-year-old to do a two hour show (including voice-killing "Helter Skelter") 24 hours before his headlining, nationally televised gig at Glasto.
No it was not wise IMO for 80 year old singer to do a two hour show before doing major show in front of nationally televised audience the next day. His voice is not that great anymore to begin with and he probably should have been resting it so he does not sound hoarse. If he wanted to prepare a little bit the day before than cut your show to an hour and don't do any full out rockers. For his sake, I hope the appearance goes over well.

Chris Whitten & Robbie McIntosh were in the audience.

OOBU24 - Thanks for posting that picture, very cool they were at the show. Chris has aged a lot better than Robbie from that picture -lol. I always wondered why Wix was the only band member from the 1989 and 1993 tours that continued to play with Paul. Chris only played the one tour with Paul, was replaced in the 1993 tour. Does anybody know if Paul asked Robbie or Hamish to play again with him when he decided to tour again years later? I thought I read Paul was looking for guitar players when he was recording DR. Wonder if they were at the show as "guests" of Paul or Wix or they actually bought tickets - ha ha. Would have been awesome if there was a picture of Paul with the three of them.

There was a pic with Abe but not Paul. That would have been nice.

In that case he could also have done Please Cheese Me and Penny Grain.

B J, agree with everything you said. Sadly, Paul continues to "phone" it in (which is the expression, but with Paul we could start a new one: he's "snail mailing it in!")

Add me to the list of fans frustrated with the same ol' setlist. From Me to You has been done in soundchecks recently - so wasn't that much of a stretch to drop it in. He could have mixed in some other soundcheck songs very easily and made it at least a tad different from the regular concert setlist. One could even say he could give the "cheap seats" folks a taste of the setlist he reserves only for the people with the expensive soundcheck packages.
I'm really bummed we haven't heard McCartney III songs live, other than the short lived inclusion of Women and Wives. It's not like we're asking him to do a vocally challenging song from when he was in his 30s. He JUST recorded these songs 2 years ago. Sigh.
Also, You Never Give Me Your Money is not new! As he's been saying. He did it in 2002. Granted it was a different arrangement on piano not followed by She Came in Through the Bathroom Window, and mashed up with Carry That Weight. I distinctly remember him poking fun at not knowing the words and "I don't think I'm even going to bother to try and learn them before the end of the tour", so I guess he finally learned them. lol

Hi it’s been a long time since I’ve been here!
I live 15 mins from this venue and drove like Lewis Hamilton to get there on Thursday afternoon and missed tickets by about 30mins ️. I stood in a “reserve” queue which we were told could get us tickets if people buying did not have photographic ID. 3 hours later I drove home. Undeterred I turned up on Friday afternoon at 4pm to hear ( vaguely) Wicks singing at the sound check. A few hundred in the carpark, all fans without tickets. The venue holds 800 but because of the stage and kit only 400 tickets were sold. On top of that 100 tickets were reserved for MPL guests. The “100” went in a side door. They seemed pretty much like people who were there for the occasion, ( the people who couldn’t even name a solo album if their lives depended on it).
Macca arrived and waved out of the car window. He started performing and then it started raining . Hundreds left for home. About 100 people stood along a footpath to the side of the venue. We could just make out the songs. It became a “name that tune” competition ( I won )!! I had no coat or umbrella and got soaked through. Friendship’s were made . What annoyed us was seeing ticket holders standing outside talking DURING Maccas performance!!! I mean COME ON! Who does that!! Real fans waiting hours, standing in the rain and people who have the tickets are OUTSIDE!
Anyway. I wandered back to my car, dripping wet, which was parked by the exit of the small carpark. As I’m stood by the drivers door a black limo pulls up beside me, the driver pausing before pulling out onto a little side road. It’s just me, the limo and 3 feet in between the rear seat passengers. Their window is down and HE is there beside me! The moment I have waited 43 years for and im stood hair and clothes stuck to me from 2 hours in the rain, and all I can think of to say is “I STOOD IN THE RAIN SINGING!” . So Macca thumbs up and says “thank you”. And it was to ME, no one else was there ….. just me…. My jaw dropped to the floor and I could have cried I was so happy. I drove home literally on cloud nine . A 57 year old crazy blonde acting like a teenager .
My family and old friends were emotional for me…… after all the years of banging on about Macca and the concerts, posters in bedrooms, t-shirts etc etc etc they were just glad to hear the end of it! Although I will dine out on my story for the rest of my life.
Im still smiling just thinking of it weeks later 🥹 -
