Lewisohn's Book
-
SusyLuvsPaul:
The massive Bob Spitz Beatles book was highly enjoyable, I still maintain. I didn't notice a lot of errors.
Then you must not have read it carefully. Even the picture captions are cocked up. The amount of new little tidbits of info I've learned so far in the Lewisohn book is incredible...he definitely did his detective work and then some!

thanks for posting that clip, ladygamer. It's great how he has every Beatle book you can find on his bookshelf behind him!

I'm at the point now where I can barely put it down...since Monday I've mowed down another ~250 pages, halfway through it now. I hope to have my review done and published in another week or so

Thanks for the kind words, and glad you liked my review. I'm sure you and everyone else will love this book, it was one of those "can't-put-it-down" books. I wish the wait for volumes 2 and 3 wasn't so long!

You are a good writer. I enjoyed your style very much. I just read You Never Give Me Your Money and enjoyed it. Am looking forward to reading this book even more. Thank you for the review!

Glad you liked YNGMYM. That's a book I've read several times and plan on writing up a review as well, to me it's an essential book for any Beatles fan. And thanks for the kind words about my Lewisohn review! My next book to review is the upcoming Beatles: BBC Archives book by Kevin Howlett, followed by Man On the Run and then the new George Harrison biography, Behind That Locked Door. Lots of Beatles book stuff to come on my site

what an interesting and engaging review. From what I've read from your review and heard from Lewisohn himself is that this book paints the Beatles lives in a human way and make you feel as through your a fly on a wall in a way. at least that is what I am hoping that it does. I can't wait to read this book for sure. Even through I am sure it wont be any jaw dropping revelations, but at least its told in an engaging manner that isn't boring. Nice review

What will really be great is finally having THE Biography written by the pre-eminent Beatles historian, instead of just another writer looking to make a buck and rushing out a book full of errors, as we have seen over and over. When the 3 volumes of around 3000 pages are completed, it will make this book and The Anthology the only two Beatles bios any fan will need.

Along with "Many Years From Now"

Along with "Many Years From Now"
Well...yes. But that is primarily a bio of Paul. I was referring to The Beatles specifically.
-
I still think Hunter Davies' authorized bio from '68 is still essential. But Philip Norman and his "Shout!" can go jump off a cliff.
-
The essentials: Love Me Do (Michael Braun) The Beatles {Authorised Biography} (Hunter Davies) ...anything by Mark Lewisohn... The rest can be trashed.
-
There's an excellent book focused on Paul's song "Yesterday" that made me cry when I read it...but this thread concentrates on books about the Beatles. Yes, Paul stated most of the Beatle books and books about him are "trash"--but not all are, he shouldn't think that.
