@wandy No, the banter wasn't even slightly amusing and was forced. Everything about the Spector version was dreadful....especially "The Long and Winding Road!!!" All that syrup and that heavenly choir was sickening. Thank God Giles Martin came in and fixed it. Finally. Now it's the version I prefer, even though I still like "...Naked."
John had some of the funniest stuff and it certainly didn’t sound “forced” to me: “I hate (or Ain’t?) Dig A Pygmy by Charles Hawtrey and the Deaf-Aids (laughter from someone) Phase one in which Doris gets her oats!” and right before Paul does Let It Be on the piano, “And now we’d like to do ‘Hark, the Angels Come’”
Giles did do a great job on the Remaster though.LOL!! yes. Hark the angels come. Referring to Paul's "granny music". John's description, not mine. But I did like the original Let It Be album, complete with banter, more so, than LIB Naked. LN, I felt was a bit sterile by comparison. But I'm happy to listen to either.
No, he wasn’t referring to “granny music!” The reference was the fact that “Let It Be” sounded like a Christmas hymn.
Yes I know, but John hated those type of McCartney song's, he called those songs, "Paul's granny music". He could be a bit "cutting", our John.

I know! You are “preaching to the choir!” Everybody here knows what John considers as Paul’s granny songs: Honey Pie, Your Mother Should Know, When I’m 64 and Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.

@wandy Very curious how you can possibly consider Let It Be a “granny song?” It is a beautiful ballad. I’m seriously wondering here.

Lol!! You clearly haven't been paying attention to my comment. I said, John SAID, those types of McCartney song's were "granny songs". NOT ME! I think Let It Be, is a great song. I have thought LIB was a hymn like song, for well over 40 yrs. It's funny how John would say LIB is a "granny song" ( he's even making fun of it on the Let It Be, album, by saying "hark the angels come") when in 1971, he wrote his very own "granny song", "Imagine". Every bit as good (in my opinion ) as Let It Be.

(I’m going to shout here for emphasis) JOHN NEVER SAID LET IT BE WAS A GRANNY SONG AND YOU IMPLIED IN YOUR POSTS THAT YOU THOUGHT IT WAS A GRANNY SONG TOO!
You said in your post that you disagreed with me when I said LIB was not a granny song - just scroll down and look! And ffs, Imagine is not a Granny Song! 🤯
John’s list from the 2nd article:
Honey Pie
When I’m Sixty Four
Your Mother Should Know
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
Hello, Goodbye
Maxwell’s Silver Hammer
Martha My Dear
Good Day Sunshine
Lovely Rita

@wandy You have lost your ever-loving mind. This is what you posted: in 1971, he wrote his very own "granny song", "Imagine”
Why do you keep denying what you posted?
And John was “making a joke” by saying “And now we’d like to do Hark, the Angels come” because Let It Be sounds like a Christmas hymn. I already said that to you once. -

I already said that to you once.Yes, he makes fun of Let It Be, ( and whether you like it or believe it or not, does that because he thinks it a soft GRANNY SONG!!) And in THAT VEIN, HE wrote, ironically his own granny song. IMAGINE. I personally think Imagine is a geat song. Its just been done to death over many many years. In fact when I last went to liverpool in 2008, I heard it so many times, in the end I had to get away from the (Beatles) convention for the day because artists were playing it at every street concert, I went to. Driving me nuts! I spent the day in Port Sunlight. Well worth a visit

Okay wandy, that’s it. I give up.
I’ve been to Port Sunlight - that’s where Hulme Hall is, right? The first place Ringo played with the Beatles.
-
@njr CORRECT!! Nice place to visit. Strangely it reminded me of British 1960s tv series, The Prisoner.

Neither Let it Be or Imagine are anything close to "granny" songs.... "Grammy" songs... yeah... back in that day, when anyone gave a shite about winning one.... both are brilliant songs... should've won a Grammy... when it was seen as an "accolade"... unlike modern times where it is an achievement not to win one... cos the award has lost more relevance than a Kardashian... but nothing about either Let it Be or Imagine (two of the greatest songs of all time) even resemble granny music... at least, not in my view....

Totally agree. Feeding the Beatles music to today's youngsters is like feeding caviar to pigs. BUT!! I totally support today's kids for wanting their rap-crap music!! I had my music back in the 60s. Today's kids should be allowed THEIRS! Fairs fair.

Well, okay. Not exactly forced. John was funny with a good sense of humor. So....let me revise my comment/observation a bit. John's funny bits sometimes came about in a manner to try and deflate Paul's work. IMO I believe John knew he didn't come to the sessions with much in the way of good songs...or new songs period. His contribution was slight. Paul did have some good songs, he was brimming with musical idea. John was a bit jealous...again IMO....and came across that way in the comments, however humorous, that he made.

Yoko once said she felt John wished he had a tad bit of Paul's personality, and Paul had a tad bit of John's. I think so too.
