I would ( almost) be happy to pay that for the Beatles "live" but Ringo? Noooo!!
-
@wandy You guys are nuts! Front & center plus merch for $324 is CHEAP! (compared to what you’d have to pay for Paul - over $2000!)
If the Beatles could travel to the present in a time machine and play concerts all over, I’d pay $10,000 minimum for front & center for that! -

If the Beatles could travel to the present in a time machine and play concerts all over, I’d pay $10,000 minimum for front & center for that! When I saw Wings Over Wembley in London, in 1976 ticket cost me £3.50p Probably around 7 dollars. Mind you I was earning around £25 a week, probably about 50 dollars a week in US money. So it was still fairly expensive. As for paying 10 thousand dollars to see the Beatles? My heart says "YES"!! My bank account says, "you EFFING DARE!!!".
-
@wandy I can’t remember what I paid for Wings in 1976, but I know it wasn’t more than $12.50 per ticket. George Harrison was $8.50 in 1974.
My heart would win over my head any day if I could see the Beatles as they were in the ‘60s! -
@njr Nah. I would not pay $2000 for Paul. Ticket prices are ridiculous....beyond ridiculous! Artists are taking advantage, same as athletes are. The only way to get them to ever ease up is not support them.
-
I went to the 2022 US Open (Tennis) last year and my ticket with fees cost $125. My seat in the main stadium (Ashe Stadium) was pretty close to the court and I got to see 2 matches ( lasted a little over 4 hours). After they were over, I was allowed to go to any other court and sit in a general admission seat. I got there at 10am and did not leave until after 7pm and saw parts of 5 tennis matches. Not bad value for $125.
In a couple of weeks, I will be going to Chicago Cubs baseball game in Chicago. My seat is in the 2nd row directly behind home plate and in 2nd level. The cost of the ticket was $58 without ticket fees, don't remember exactly how much ticket fees were but it was not bad at all.
My point is you can't compare crazy ticket prices of concerts to any sporting event. Try getting a seat to see Taylor Swift or Bruce Springsteen for $58 even if you are in the last row of the arena/stadium.

I never said I’d pay $2000 for Paul today! The most I paid was $1600 for the Hot Sound Package (soundcheck, merchandise, dinner and 3rd row front & center seat) in 2017.
I was talking about a fantasy situation where I could see the Beatles as they were in the ‘60s! For a front row center seat to that I’d pay $10,000 or more! -
@wandy Just curious, but what were you doing in 1976 that you only made £25 a week? I was a personnel clerk then and I know I was making at least $125 a week. My rent was $185/mo. including water for a nice 1 bedroom apt.

I don't live in America I live in London. I was working in a supermarket, I was earning the average wage for that job at that time. BTW. Any brits reading this, it's Paul McCartney night tonight on BBC4.

Yeah, I know you live in London! Was the cost of living less then too? For example, in 1973 during my senior year in high school, I work as a clerk in a major department store. The minimum wage was $1.65/hour, so depending on how many hours I worked (was part-time after school) I might net $60 or more in a 2-week pay period. I thought I was rich!

It's too long ago to remember the cost of living, to be honest. But £25 a week was average for that time. Our house. 3 bedrooms, cost around £4,350 in 1969. Now it's worth around £500.0000. I left school in 1972 to work full time in the Supermarket. I took home, after tax and National insurance, £10.50p a week. A year earlier I worked full time in the Supermarket through the school summer holidays. I was taking home £12 a week. In todays money that's easily £250 a week. An average weeks wage. And because I was still a schoolboy my mum said I didn't have to pay her housekeeping money. So, there I am earning the equivalent of £250 a week, over the 6 weeks summer break. In todays money. MAN!! I had so much money I didn't know what to do with it all!! I bought Levi jeans, all the fashion back then. A leather jacket. Fashionable shoes. I haven't even mentioned my albums. Wings. All the solo Beatles albums. Pink Floyd. Deep Purple. ELO. I went to concerts. Wings. ELO. Deep Purple ( not Pink Floyd) Then the following year I left school, and crashed into reality. Started paying tax. My mum took nearly half my wages for housekeeping money. But, you know what? I would have those days back again in a heartbeat. Yessireebob!!!

@wandy From what you said about the cost of the house, your cost of living WAS less. In the U.S. in 1969, a house like that would probably be double what you quoted.
In 1956 my parents paid $12,000 for a 2-bedroom, 1 bath house with basement and 1-car detached garage. I lived there from age 10 months to 18 years when I went down to Atlanta for school and liked it so much here, I stayed. In 2014 I sold the house for my dad (who I had brought down to assisted living near me) for about $48,000. The guy who bought it added central air conditioning and totally renovated the inside. He then rented it out. The realtor I used lives next door and she got the renters to let me in to see it in 2018 - what a difference! -

They had to borrow £50 from my mums mum to put down as a deposit. It had no bathroom and no inside toilet. And only 2 bedrooms. A kitchen and a dining room. That house now has to be worth at least£350,000 I go past it quite a lot when I ĝo out. How young ppl today buy a house ( especially in London) beats the hell out of me.

I know you didn't....I believe your comment was something about paying $324 for Ringo was cheap compared to what you'd (anybody) have to pay for Paul....over $2,000. I was just making an observation that I would not pay that amount for Paul...not saying or suggesting that you said you would.

Okay, sorry! My mistake.

My heart would win over my head any day if I could see the Beatles as they were in the ‘60s!I saw the Wings Over America tour in San Diego -- L.A. sold out too fast -- and had to pay a scalper agency the seemingly outrageous price of $25 a pop for nosebleed seats. I forget the face value, but it was way less than that.
