New Paul Compilation for 2024
-
@b-j-conlee
After a good night's sleep, here are my initial comments on a "Proposed New McCartney Compilation for 2024."Just my opinion...After analyzing Paul/MPL's last Compilation (2016's Pure McCartney), I believe Paul needs an updated Compilation by the end of 2024.
Since the Pure McCartney Compilation, Paul has released Egypt Station and McCartney 3. There's a good chance that Macca will release another "Brand New Album" in the next 12 Months.
On top of this, "Pure McCartney" poorly represented his Discography at that time. I laid out earlier in this Topic/Post just how many Paul Solo Albums were either totally absent on this Compilation or had very little representation. Besides Egypt Station and McCartney 3, there are 0 Tracks from Flowers in the Dirt, Run Devil Run and Driving Rain. There is only 1 track represented from Electric Arguments, Kisses on the Bottom, Give My Regards to Broad Street, Wildlife and Off the Ground. Additionally, there are only 2 Tracks represented from Venus and Mars, Back to the Egg, Red Rose Speedway, Pipes of Peace, Memory Almost Full and Press to Play. Essentially, the overwhelming % of Tracks on "Pure McCartney" come from 6 albums (Ram, Band on the Run, Flaming Pie, Chaos and Creation, Tug of War and the "New" Album). The other problem with "Pure McCartney" was that even some of the Tracks "Selected" were very questionable. A good example was the pick of "Bip Bop" over other far better songs on the Red Rose Speedway Album like "Single Pigeon and Little Lamb Dragonfly. There are many more examples like this I could give you.
If you analyze the Tracks on my "Proposed" Compilation for 2024, you will see that I spread out many more Paul Albums on my Proposal. I also think my Deep Cuts Selections on the whole are much better (in all modesty).

@beatles4ever-1
100% Agree with on "Bip Bop" not belonging on the "Pure McCartney" Compilation. If they wanted to include something from "wildlife"..."Tomorrow" would have been a much better choice.
There were several more selections on Pure McCartney that were strange and wrong IMO.
They were:
Girlfriend (London Town) - Many better choices
We All Stand Together - Rupert and the Frog Song Soundtrack - Many better choices
Baby's Request (Back to the Egg) - Many better choices
Temporary Secretary (McCartney 2) - Again, Many better choices
Press (Press to Play) - Again, many better choices.There were a few other selections that were questionable to me like Dance Tonight, Big Barn Red, Flaming Pie (the Song) and Wine Dark Open Sea. Not that these tracks above are necessarily bad songs but when you're doing a "compilation" they're are so many better choices.
Thanks as always "Beatles4Ever"
PS Do you think that McCartney/MPL should release a New and Updated Compilation by the End of 2024?

BJ... again we disagree.... whilst also agreeing on many things!.... I love Girlfriend. Love it!.... I know that makes me in the minority. But I also love The Man. And Tug of Peace.... And I love Wine Dark Open Sea.... Dance Tonight, average. Flaming Pie, the song, average.... Oh, and I love My Baby's Request.... Well, as they say in the classics, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum.... All good!
-
@toris And yet, one of my favorite McCartney songs of all time is "Oh Woman, Oh Why".
Different strokes for different folks.

@b-j-conlee I would love to have a compilation of songs he's left off albums, released in other countries as singles, but not in America, or were B-sides of singles. Songs such as "Once Upon a Longago", I believe that's its name, I would love on an album. It would be like a new album with new songs. I question Paul's explanation of how or why he came up with "Pure McCartney" in the first place when he released the compilation. It was something along the lines of an office worker just casually saying to him: It would be great to have CDs of many of your songs that people could just play when driving across country...or something like that which didn't seem to make any sense. Some of Paul's explanations for various things he does just don't ring true. This was one of them. I mean, if he's going to come up with some reason for a huge compilation such as "Pure McCartney",., make it plausible and....pick better songs. If he can do that, I think a new and updated compilation would be welcome. Meanwhile, I am hoping he and Ringo can come up with some compilation to be part of the new and final Beatles song featuring John's AI enhanced vocal and Paul, Ringo and George. I would welcome updating the sound quality of "Free As a Bird" (and also picking up its speed a bit) and "Real Love" using that same AI technology. I think they will not just release that one song. I'm looking forward to it, however, in whatever form. I'm especially looking forward to hearing a remixed "Rubber Soul" and their first two albums...those three badly need to be updated with the new technology available. I am assuming doing that is in the works. They wouldn't just stop with "Revolver."

@toris
I also love "O'h Woman O'h Why". That was on my Leftovers/ Flip Sides Topic a couple of months ago. My new topic is covering Compilations and why Paul needs a new one in 2024. Here we're discussing songs already on Macca's original Albums...not B-Sides, unreleased stuff etc. Paul's last official Compilation was 2016's Pure McCartney. By mid-2024 that Compilation will be 8 Years Old already!
It's not that songs like "Girlfriend", Baby's Request, Wine Dark Open Sea are bad songs. I'm focusing on the great songs that Paul left off his last Compilation "Pure McCartney".
As I have said, The main problem with "Pure McCartney" was all the "Duplications" from previous Compilations like Wingspan, All the Best, etc. They were not only the same songs but exact same versions. Why would fans that already bought his First 3 Compilations want or need to buy "Pure McCartney".
I'm going to take this Topic a different direction. I'm going to list the many great songs that were "skipped over" on 2016's Pure McCartney.
Thanks as always Toris. -

Do you mean Tug of War or Pipes of Peace?
-
@njr Nance, the Tug of Peace... I'm probably the only person on the planet who loves it! A great song. And Through Our Love, which I still think is very underrated. But, I'm somewhat a fan of that album.... And Keep Under Cover.
-
@toris
Yes, "Through Our Love" is yet another terrific ballad NOT on the "Pure McCartney" Compilation. It should have been on my list immediately above. -
@b-j-conlee I have a special love for 80's Paul... Probably cos it was the same time I was buying all those Beatles' albums.... Geez, I spent all my money from my paper round on those terrific guys!... I'm probably also one of the few that like However Absurd.... a fave song from Banarama, I recall them saying in Smash Hits Magazine.... Underrated.... And I also like Move Over Busker and Angry.... The Pound is Sinking is awesome.

And I'm listening to Ebony and Ivory.... and I don't care what anyone says.... A GREAT song.
-
Tug of War is simply a wonderful song..... he should be pushing and pulling for that to be on his set list..... that's a song worthy of the Beatles.
-
@toris The Tug of war / Pipes of Peace as a double album would've worked a treat.
-
@toris
The Album "Tug of War" had the Best Beginning of an Album, didn't it. Those 1St 3 songs were phenomenal in my opinion:Tug of War (the song)
Take It Away
Somebody Who CaresWhat did those 3 songs have in common. None of them made it onto the "Pure McCartney" Compilation. That's another reason why Paul needs an "updated" Compilation over the next couple of years.
Like you, I still like to hear "Ebony and Ivory" on the Radio. It's another one of those Paul songs that critics love to hate. Yes, I always wished the Lyrics were a little better but nevertheless it's still a great song imo. Of course, Ebony and Ivory is on "Pure McCartney" since it was a major "Hit" but how do you exclude those 1st 3 songs on the Album. I think that "Somebody Who Cares" is one of Paul's Best Deep Cuts in his entire Catalog.
-
Ballroom Dancing?... Remains one of my favorites.
-
@toris Oh, absolutely!
-
Agree 100% on Ballroom Dancing (BD for short). Funny personal story about BD. In 1982 when my Daughter was about 1 year old, I played Tug of War constantly as she was learning to walk. Think about my little Daughter's Age. She had no idea who Paul McCartney was but you couldn't help dancing/shaking to some of the songs. Of course I was dancing too. For whatever reason, BD became her absolute favorite. It was the 1st song she ever "danced to". Now she's 42. I should have done a video of it but you have to remember it was Spring of 1982. It wasn't as easy as it is today. If I had anything to do with an updated and new Paul Compilation, Ballroom Dancing would definitely be one of the Tracks.

No, no, your troubles cease when you learn to play the pipes of peace....
