Finally got to watch the Grammys last night ! Helter Skelter was great !!! The showed loads of shots of Brian playing But it was only highlights of the show ...and they didn't show Paul at the end singing Yesterday !!...... don't know how they could have left that out of the highlights ? !!!!!!
It was fantastic, wasn't it!!! HS was just amazing.

My mom calls this a.m., says "Did you watch that music thing on TV last night?" I said no, that after watching an equine thing on Animal Planet, I had to race out and run some last-second errands. She says "Well, Dusty was on it. I just happened to turn it on when Paul McCartney was on with Dusty and that blond guy. I taped it for you. They always show more of the blonde than Dusty, but the blonde is much better looking." I was 16 when I first started seeing Rusty's band Eulogy. I am 44. She has the CD (she had to have one since my name is on the credits, LOL), and to this day she still calls him Dusty. I have given up trying to get her to call "the blonde" by his name.
Thanks....I look forward to seeing Dusty and "the blond" when the Grammys prpgramme is shown over here tonight. I have a feeling we are only getting a highlights programme and not the whole thing...so fingers crossed that they'll show both My Band songs .

Did anyone here go to Brian's show in Santa Barbara ???? So....How did it go ????
I DID!! I DID!!! How did it go??? How about OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!! Doesn't matter where Brian plays..........the show is always FANTASTIC!!!!!! He looked and sounded GREAT!!! The band was awesome too. There were several people I recognized from previous shows, although I didn't know everyone's names. Not the same as a "home" crowd, but the response was wonderful. Afterwards, Brian made his way through the crowd, speaking to everyone and signing a few autographs. Always the inimitable Mr. Ray! Biggest surprise of the evening?? WIX! He came onstage with his accordion and played "All I Know" for a new twist on that ballad. That was really good! The crowd recognized Wix as well, and he got a great reception. That was the only ballad that Brian played, but he did include "Tears of a Clown" and the crowd went wild! Great night, great venue! Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs were terrific as well. Thanks again, Brian, for another fantastic evening!!
Wow - that sounds like a great night. Thank you. I think it's amazing what a difference Wix on his accordion can make. I loved Here, There And Everywhere on the '02/'03 Tours.

Can anyone remember if, on Soft Machine, any of Brian's band sang what would be Etta's part or was Brian singing it as a solo? I can't remember from I heard him play it last year.
Well..... to be honest Caroline ... i was so busy listening to the song , that i didn't really notice , but it's my favourite song !!!! and it sounded great !!! But wouldn't it be amazing if one day Etta played that song with Brian live .... i would just love to see that !!!!!
Yes - it would!!!! Thanks, Dawn. Maybe I'll be able to hear it for myself again one day!!!

The party itself was a huge success. The Mint was crowded with people and it looked like they had brought in extra tables and chairs. There were tons of people standing as well. Brian did all the songs from MM as well as Tears of a Clown. He sounded fantastic!!! His voice and playing were perfect and his band, Black Unicorn, sounded better than ever. It was a lovely surprise to see Wix and Rusty come onstage to perform All I Know with him. I had spotted Wix earlier, but was so caught up with Brian?s performance that it didn?t occur to me that he might actually be playing! My favourite song of the evening was If You?re Leaving Me. It started off with just Brian on acoustic guitar, and then Peter came in on the second verse with a haunting electric guitar piece [it sounded very different to the album version, but I love them both]. Soft Machine was fantabulous as always and I Liked You Better got a great response from the crowd.
Thanks for the report. IYLM is the one I would really like to hear live. Can anyone remember if, on Soft Machine, any of Brian's band sang what would be Etta's part or was Brian singing it as a solo? I can't remember from I heard him play it last year. Thanks for sharing the photos, Dollie - looks like you had a wonderful time....and a great view.

It WAS an amazing show, wasn't it??? I loved "All I Know" with the added instruments of Rusty and Wix! It sounded even better than the cd! Longer guitar solos, Caro, and more improvisation, I thought. You'll have to get someone else to tell you about the guitars. You know I'm hopeless at paying attention to those details!!! Made some "new" "old" friends and managed to actually order and EAT dinner before Brian took the stage. That was quite the accomplishment! Food was wonderful, as usual. The crowd was great! Not just in the size, but in the attitude as well. Jake Labotz and the Mojo Monkeys put on great shows as well. All in all, I think the night was just about perfect! Sure hope Brian feels the same way!!!
I'm sure he does!!!! Sounds like a great evening....oh I wish I could have been there!! I was trying to imagine how All I Know would sound with a accordian. Can you remember if Brian played an acoustic at all?

So...how was the show?? Did Brian play the whole of MM? Was there any improvisation/variation compared to the album versions? Which guitars was he using? Did you all have a fantastic time???? Did anybody actually eat anything this time!!!

not sure if you guys have seen this yet, you probably have! but i just read about it on another thread...Amazon.com has a video of the guys rehearsing "Please Please Me" in Miami before the tour, and there's a group shot of the band out in front of the theater , very casual, and there's Brian looking cute... and Rusty with his "70s porno star" mustache... it's a funny video, not as overly produced as the commercial DVDs are - you hear them playing and sounding like a normal band...not a made-for-TV concert with all the off-key parts edited out... you can see it if you do a search on Amazon for "High in the Clouds" and scroll down...
I saw the video, thanks. It's great that you can hear Brian on the backing vocals and there are more shots of him that we usually get. I LOVED that song when I saw them perform it.

Well, if you go to the website and click 'Audio', you can hear two of the songs. They are amazing.

Woohoo! I've been remembered!! Heeey Caroline! I haven't managed to get hold of MM yet ops: ops: ops: ops: You have no idea how ashamed I feel about this. One of those things you keep saying 'I'll have to get that soon' and never do. I haven't even managed to buy Chaos and Creation yet...... I'm a terrible terrible person I'm off to go join Brian's message board! Feels great letting him back into my life
I saw you'd joined!!! Great!! You will love MM.....if you haven't got it yet, then you have a real treat in store.

Hey guys! I've been off this board for about a year or so (due to suddenly realising the university had to take priority in my life....damn...) and when I tried to sign back in as my old username, I was informed that it had become inactive I used to post *loads* on this thread as 'Miss McCartney'....anyone remember me? Real name Kirstyn - we used to chat loads on MRC or something like that? Back when we were 'Brian's Cherries' or something like that...Fair enough if you don't remember, but I decided that this year I'd make an effort to begin talking on here again as I had a lot of good times. I can't believe how much things with Brian have changed - he seems to be doing really well for himself and I'm so happy for him! Anyway, I hope I'm still welcome on here after so ruthlessly abandoning it for so long. ops:
WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Welcome back, Kirstyn!!!! Course we remember you!!!! This is fab!! How have you been? Oh, those old chats used to be a real hoot!!! Yes, Brian is doing so well, isn't he.....have you listened to MM yet? Brian also has a message board of his own now. Come and join us!!

Caroline , it's been ages since i've seen that photo !!!
I know!!!! It ranks up there with the classics!!!! I was looking for Bill Bernstein's picture of Brian and Paul with the cake [I know it was technically Paul's cake but who cares when it's a great pic???]. I searched through my photobucket and couldn't find it [the picture, not the cake] . It was posted on here ages ago....hmmmm....someone must have it.....
