RE: Brian Ray Archived
Anyone listening to Part 2? Brian has just played I Liked You Better as an acoustic and it sounded absolutely amazing!!! Good For Nothing was done as an unplugged as well and that was ace but ILYB was just brilliant!! Brian talked about lots of things, including a little story about his sister...nice. I think there was maybe more 'interview' this time....not sure. Anyway, the interview has given MM a good bit of exposure. I think most of the songs were played at some point. I enjoyed that!! Thanks, Brian and Paul Leslie!!

Hmm...Jorie posted this over at her Macca Report: TIME AFTER ISLAND TIME Presents... "WHOORAY!" A Two-Part Radio Special with Brian Ray HEAR IT ON THE INTERNET BRIAN RAY RETURNS TO TIME AFTER ISLAND TIME FOR PART TWO... Brian Ray's newest album "Mondo Magneto" is a Rock record from a man who has journeyed to the very heart of rock and roll and...this album is the tale he tells about it. You can't exactly stay still when you hear his guitar playing and his lyrics make you grin from ear to ear. On this second part, he plays and sings for us two such songs..just for you...the Time After Island Time listeners. This and a light-hearted talk along with recordings from his album. Plus music from other artists who fit this groove! Brian Ray's solo record is the result of a life in rock and roll. He co-wrote "One Heartbeat" for the legendary Smokey Robinson. On this episode we hear one of the Brian Ray's fun, rockin' cover of Smokey Robinson's Tears of a Clown...which you can download from iTunes. Some of you may know Brian Ray for touring with Paul McCartney and Co. On the previous episode we talked about life on the road with McCartney and on this episode, we talk about what it's like ON STAGE with Paul McCartney. Brian tells us about his musical roots, his sister Jean Ray's part in his musical evolution, and we even get to hear Brian Ray communicate what he would like to say to the world! So listen in fromse http://www.radio.jimmydreamz.com WEDNESDAY December 28 9 AM (EDT) THURSDAY December 29 4 PM (EDT) SATURDAY December 31 8 PM (EDT) http://www.maccareport.com/ Sounds like it will be great. I also found this little snippet on the radio website: Brian Ray Part II will be airing on Time After Island Time Jan 2nd but I can't find anything else about it on that site. It's probably just me but I don't find it an easy site to navigate. : http://www.jimmydreamz.com/

I listened in and thought it was a great show! The solo unplugged version of Vinyl was the highlight. It was hard to imagine how that song would sound performed acoustically as the album version is such a rocker, but it sounded really great! Brian came over really well in the interview, too. I'm looking forward to hearing part 2 next week.
Yes, I agree. I was trying to imagine which other ones would sound great unplugged. We were so amazed at how fab UU was [almost] unplugged...I wonder if Brian will ever do the same with MM. I think Anywhere But Home would sound good. We'll just have to wait and see if he does any more like that in Part 2.

RE: Brian Ray Archived
It was cool. I LOVED the little anecdotes..especially the one about Paul insisting the plane kept flying until the impromptu party was over!! There was a little section about the background to Roses...the Bush perspective on how things are going for him. Also a bit about the Dirt Brothers! Brian talked affectionately about Etta and how she came to sing on the album. The interviewer asked him about his surfing after seeing the photo on the website [ ]. He talked about Rusty and Abe and how he came to know them and work with them. I have read that before but it was nice to hear Brian actually talking about it. Throughout the interview, Brian gave indepth answers and they were really interesting. Brian always gives entertaining and thoughtful answers. I look forward to Part 2. Songs featured [if my memory serves me correctly!!!] were: If You're Leaving Me Coming Up Roses Soft Machine Catbox Beach from Rusty's Undressing Underwater [Brian plays bass on that song] And - a FANTASTIC version of Vinyl unplugged. I hope there are more unpluggeds [if there's such a word] in Part 2. I hope you all get to hear it.

Will any of you be coming to either of Brian's upcoming gigs??? Dec. 14th at The Viper Room or Jan. 21st at The Mint?? It would be lovely to see you guys again!!
Hi, Unfortunately, the dates don't work for me... As soon as there is a show that fits in with my holidays, I'll be there. Have a great time!!!!
You'll be there in spirit. I hope to try out my new digital camera that I got for my birthday last week. I don't think cameras are permitted at The Viper Room, but I know I can use it at The Mint. Maybe we can take another group photo with Brian and leave a space for you, so that we can Photoshop you in later!
Thanks....I am more than happy to be there in spirit - no photoshopping is necessary!!!! I sure hope everyone gets around to actually eating this time!!!

OH! Darling:
Dawn, I had an amazing time!!!! Both Houston and Dallas were rockin'!! In Houston, they added "Midnight Special" to the playlist (Leadbelly's song about being in jail in Houston usually performed during the sound checks). And after they played Good Day Sunshine, the Space Shuttle Discovery astronauts came out on stage!! Each one was introduced to a roar of applause. It was sooo cool!!! In Dallas, the opening music changed (won't spoil it for ya'). Paul was in rare form. A man in the front row was eating popcorn and Paul commented that he was hungry and it looked really good so the man offered it to him. Security took the popcorn bucket to Paul who started eating the popcorn and shared it with the band. Afterwards, he gave the bucket back. It was so funny!!! During Brian's introduction, he mentioned it was Syd's birthday (his guitar tech) so on the count of three, the audience yelled "Happy Birthday Syd!" Oh and btw....all that practicing paid off....Brian nailed "y'all".....
Wow!! Thanks. Have they done Midnight Special as part of the set before in that part of the world or was that totally new to TX?

Brill - thanks. After hearing how great it sounded live, I can't wait to hear the studio version.

New Blog: Ladies and Germans, How are WE doing this fine Autumn day.. Listening to the Ramones at the moment on Indy 103.1, the best LA radio station.. Day off today after a string of amazing shows with Paul and band.. Where did I leave off? hmmmm, oh yeah, the kindness of strangers in Columbus, right? YES!! How much do we love the mid west? They effin' ROCK... St. Paul was off the hook, friends were there with me, and Paul came into our band lounge and hung out with us, which was fun for all. Des Moines is outta control.. One of the best audiences so far, and I said so from the stage! We flew home after that show, first time since like, Aug.20th!! I woke up in the morning all crusty, thinking... ok, what's the layout of this hotel room?? Ahhhh, HOME!!!.. always a great moment, right up there with eating hot chocolate volcano cake with vanilla ice cream [first bite]. Then, Omaha.. you guys are nuts!! Thanks for the great time!.. It was funny, our crew came out into the security pit, just as we started Please Please Me!! All in costume.. YESSSS, the best staff and crew on the planet, ok?..and on the way home we had a crazy Halloween party on the Jet, which was decorated by some gremlin.. big spiders and rubber rats on the floor, cobwebs, caldrons and costumes for one and all. And photos to prove it ..[yes, maybe someday].. Now.. the holiday season begins. Last night in Denver my folks were there along with some friends I've known for many years.. I introduced Paul to my parents, and then, on stage when I was introduced to the crowd by Paul, I had 16,000 people say, "Hi MOM!" Ah yesssss, the majesty of rock. AND, as if that wasn't enough, my new CD, Mondo Magneto is raging, reviews are great and it's selling like big delicious hot cakes! Go to Amazon, CD Baby, my site and check it out, ok? Also, I'm in the new issue of Guitar Player magazine, along with the boss and Rusty.. Paul says nice stuff about me. p.s. oh, and you might want to check iTunes on Nov. 8th for a big surprise from me. Se ya around the campfire, Brian, the Earl of Glendale

I only just found this.....'outtakes' from Guitar Player - the bits that weren't actually published but they put onto their website. I thought they had posted the published interview onto the website- I didn't realise there were extras! : http://www.guitarplayer.com/story.asp?sectioncode=4&storycode=11442

We saw him in Des Moines last Thursday night and the crowd was the best I've seen!! Most of the audience stood for the entire show!!! We had 7th row FLOOR(!!) and we were so close that we weren't able to watch the big video screen. . . small price to pay for being so close to Paul and the boys! I took 3 signs and Paul and Brian and Abe read and acknowledged them!! I took a camera in but I was so caught up in all the excitement, that I never even took it out!!
Sounds fantastic!! Did you manage to keep the set list a surprise?
