OK. I enjoyed reading the reviews of the boardies at this thread, so I thought I'd add mine: Well, it?s a brilliant album. So many different instruments, so many different sounds. So many different emotions conveyed through the lyrics. Lyrically, it?s a wonderful piece of work. Amazing vocals ? Brian has a versatile voice. I really like the fact the lyrics are part of the packaging. I also like the pictures that go with each set of lyrics. Well, here?s what I think.. Good For Nothing ? I love this one. Good one to choose as an opener. I like the guitars in the chorus in particular. Lyrics are quite poignant. When you hear the music, it feels like it?s going to be an upbeat happy song but it isn?t?I like that contrast ? it kind of reflects the mood of the lyrics and the use of the word ?good? in a song that isn?t really about ?good?. Have to find out what an omnicord is?. Vinyl ? I like the way the intro builds up. Again ? great lyrics?I like songs with a story. I never noticed the names of all those albums when I heard it live?duh!! Great bass. I like the changes between chords in the verse. Goin? Down Swingin? ? I love the line ?you?re the strike of the match on my gasoline?...that?s a great metaphor. A song that needs to be played loud. It seems a funny thing to like, but I really love that short pause between the phrases ?people said? and ?from the jump??..I don?t know why. The quirky ?extraordinary sounds? are fun. Soft Machine ? wow!! I love the drums in that intro?the way Matt almost waits until the last moment to hit the drum. You know before the verse starts that this is going to be a great song. The voices blend perfectly. Great guitars. Just brilliant. I Liked You Better ? brilliant. The vocals in the chorus are amazing. Very witty lyrics. I like the simile comparing the old Levis at a black tie dance. It?s such a fun song and stops the album from feeling too dark, as some of the songs are a bit sad. Well placed in the running order. I also like the way the end of the verse is low and the start of the chorus is high. All I know ? I absolutely love the intro as it really sets the mood of the song. In the context of the album, it shows how versatile Brian?s voice is and how he uses it to convey the emotion of the lyric. Beautiful. I like the piece of music between ?what is wrong with me? and ?when it comes to romance??very ?Harrison-esque?. Coming Up Roses ? this will always be a ?special? one as it was the first of Brian?s songs I heard. I just love it. I didn?t realise the message behind the lyrics until it was pointed out but once I knew that, I listened with a fresh perspective. Can?t keep your feet still when this one plays!! Musically, there seems to be so many layers and so many different things to listen out for. I love the bass part. Sub Atomic ? another one that has to be LOUD. It just comes from out of nowhere ? what an intro! Go, Abe!! Rockin? guitar solo. If You?re Leaving Me ? I absolutely love this song. One of those you-just-have-to-stop-what-you?re-doing-and-listen songs. I think it is my favourite [so far]. It?s just so sad. Bless?.Brian?s voice sounds beautiful. I love the guitar ? it sounds lonely with just the strings to back it. Anywhere But Home ? very strong vocal. The intro is amazing. All the intros are amazing actually. The first line really grabs you. I can?t really explain but I like the way the vocals don?t always seems to start on the first beat of each line. A fantastic song. I love the instrumental bit. My favourite after IYLM. Well, there you go. I?m sure it?s the type of album that I will find something new in every time I hear it. Let?s hear it for MM!!!
