It's my 'Macca-versary'!!
Good morning from the UK! I hope you don't mind me sharing with you that today is exactly my 30th 'Macca-versary'; that's to say it's the day I discovered Paul as an artist. I'd known about him since Mull of Kintyre and had liked a few of his singles but wouldn't have called myself a fan. 4th August 1987, I was 19 years old and alone on a touring holiday of Scotland. I was in Oban and it was raining. I only had a few tapes for my Walkman but I was bored with them so walked into Woolworths to escape the rain and have a look at the music. The cover of Wings Greatest caught my eye and as it was reduced I bought it. WOW! I had never heard anything like it, especially Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey and Band on the Run (which I knew of but had never really listened to). Listening to that tape changed my life. That autumn I bought all of Paul's back catalogue which I got to know over the following year. The next autumn I bought all of the Beatles and did the same over that year. I'm a bit of a loner and love the outdoors and the wilderness of Scotland. Over the years Paul's music has been my companion during those times; he came with me for three years at university in South Wales and on my travels all over the world. He is my succour, my saviour and the one constant. As my sister calls it, his music is my 'safe place'. Thankfully my husband understands this and has accompanied me in the UK and in Europe to see the man perform and supports my passion for him. Soo there you go. If you read this, thank you for indulging me. I'm wondering how best I can celebrate this day but I think I will try annoy the family and neighbours by playing Maybe I'm Amazed at full blast when I get home from work later. Oh and may be raise a glass to the great man later on.

I've always thought that "Beautiful Night" was one of Paul's best songs.

So no Europe/UK rumors?
It seems not! It really frustrates me that he doesn't play in his home country!!

Just to clarify, is it 9am BST that the tickets go on pre-sale? TY.
Wouldn't really be fair to New Yorkers to put tickets on sale at 4am for their home town show!!
. Having put more thought to it I suppose not! But when I got the email here in the UK I assumed the time was our time as it didn't specify whether it was BST or EDT. I can't be sure now but I thought the times given for tickets for the European gigs going on sale last year were given in BST. Although mainland Europe is only one hour ahead of the U.K. So it didn't give it much thought but yes it would absurd to sell at 4am! It would be great if he did some dates in his home country for once.

RE: What is Paul's Best Music Video?
Coming Up is really cool. I'm enjoying watching the Ebony and Ivory one (which has similarities to the Coming Up vid) as it's playing out at the moment on old Top of the Pops from 1982 on BBC4 in the UK. The video which has had the biggest affect on me though is the one of Linda's slides for Maybe I'm Amazed. They capture the time that the song was written about and recorded in. It shows an intimate and affectionate portrait of the the early days of their marriage and i think it is beautiful.

'Ram' is consistently ranked as a Top 3 Beatles solo album by music critics and fans alike. 'Uncle Albert' is also recognized as a creative pastiche of Beatles-influenced pop. Yet, Paul still feels like much of his solo-work is below-par. It's time for Paul to start promoting his best solo work more than his Beatles-work - in concert, interviews, and print.
I'm not convinced that Paul does believe it's below par. I've read recently that he wished his post Beatles stuff was better received in concert, but he knows most people are there for the Beatles stuff. Not Me! I would dearly love to see a Beatles free Paul gig.
As Aerosmith sings "Dream On!"
A girl can dream, sigh....

RE: crying during Pauls concerts
I've started crying during and after Maybe I'm Amazed. And no, it's nothing to do with the vocal! It started in Liverpool last year and it's a totally involuntary thing. The song has become really important to me and it brings out such an emotional response when I sing it live with Paul.

RE: McCartney's Best "Meaningful Lyric" Songs
Another Paul song which has been important to me has been Don't Let it Bring You Down from London Town. I've always liked the folksy feel with the recorders but the lyrics have been an inspiration to me when i have had some dark days. I listened to it a lot after being ditched by a boyfriend in 1993!

Easy; most of the lyrics to Golden Earth Girl resonate with me because they ARE about me! "Golden earth girl, female animal sings to the wind, resting at sunset" "Good clear water friend of wilderness sees in the pool, her own reflection" "Nature's lover climbs the Primrose Hill, Smiles at the sky, watching the sunset" These lyrics are deeply, deeply personal to me. Although I know it's about Linda, when I first heard it I really wondered who told him about me because they ARE so me! Nobody or nothing has 'got' me like this before or since. I have a deep affinity with the Highlands of Scotland (even though I'm a southern lass) and the song describes my love for, and relationship with, the land and nature there. I really do smile at the sunsets and sing out in the wind there (when nobody else is about!), and I walk through glens and climb hills where the wilderness is my friend. I always smile to myself when I sing the line 'smiles at the sky, watching the sunset'. I don't know why really; maybe it brings back many memories of smiling at sunsets but that particular line just makes me damn happy! On my many trips to the area, Paul's music has usually been my only companion which is how i have wanted it. It does mean though I do connect with his music on a very personal level and which is why a Macca gig, for me, is such an intense experience!
__________________________________________________________ Thanks Golden Earth Girl. Always loved the words and melody to Golden Earth Girl. One of my favorites from the Off the Ground CD. You brought up another subject and area where Paul seems to get a lot of his inspiration. I'm talking about subjects like "nature, wildlife and the ecology". Paul has so many songs about our earth and how it relates to the universe. Just think about the many songs where Paul is referencing birds, the earth, the planets etc. Here's another one that jumps out to me...Mull of Kintyre Mull of Kintyre (excerpts) Mull of Kintyre Oh mist rolling in from the sea My desire is always to be here Oh Mull of Kintyre Far have I travelled and much have I seen Dark distant mountains with valleys of green Past painted deserts, the sunset's on fire As he carries me home to the Mull of Kintyre ______________________________________________________ One of the reasons Mull never resonated in the US is because people here had no idea what the "Mull of Kintyre" was. If you remember this was pre computer age where people just couldn't "google" things off their phones, tablets or laptops. Another reason why it was such a huge mistake that Paul didn't put the song on the US album version of London Town.
I can tell you, that walking through Glen Sligachan on the Isle of Skye with Mull of Kintyre blazing through the headphones is a magical experience!

RE: living legend "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey"
SusyLuvsPaul:
The song is an excellent example of British eccentric music hall type ditties, methinks, and is so melodious I was startled that some think Paul "hates" this song. Yet I've wondered, he's done "Let 'Em In" in concert and "Uncle Albert" sort of reminds me of that one, so I've wondered why he never performed the latter.
I've never been able to fathom some of Paul's song choices in concert; Temporary Secretary, Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite and Letting Go are just a few examples.

RE: living legend "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey"
This is one of my favourite songs from Ram. It's also one of the songs that turned me on to Paul when I bought Wings Greatest in the summer of 1987. It had a huge affect on me! I'd never heard anything like it before! I have huge affection for it! It's never occurred to me that Paul might hate it. I would have thought that he'd have fond memories of Ram, given it was his and Linda's first full project together. I think the only reference I've seen him make in interviews to Ram in the past was when he said it was his nephew's favourite album. But yes, he has largely ignored it over the last 40 years ago. He did some of Ram On when I saw him in Cardiff in 2010. Interestingly, nobody who was sitting around me recognised it. It's been good though to hear this song as part of the pre concert DJ bit this year. It sounded really great! Does anyone remember the Uncle Albert segment from Only Fool and Horses about 25 years ago? That made my day at the time!!

RE: Berlin, Germany - Waldbuhne - June 14th - ARCHIVE
Thanks! Oh man, it was the best time! In addition to the shout outs for John and George, Paul mentioned George Martin which was very touching. I think that was after You Won't See Me. My head and heart are still full of these concerts. So I've been spending this afternoon listening to Pure McCartney and going through my photos, when I should be unpacking! It's the first time I've taken a camera in with me. It's only a tiny bridge camera but I'm over the moon with the pics which will go on rotation as my screensaver on the computer!
