I'm hearing mine now, WOW! Please correct me if I'm wrong but THE ENDLESS RIVER is definitely the son of THE DIVISION BELL only better. Listening to certain segments of the songs/music on THE ENDLESS RIVER album makes me feel like I'm listening to THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, WISH YOU WERE HERE and THE WALL all rolled up into one. What do you think?
Is amazingly sweet and is an excellent tribute to the great Rick Wright. I'm totally surprised with this work, specially with the song "Anisina"... in my opinion, the best track of the album. It really makes me cry!!
Hi WingsOfMacca! How are you? Listening to "Anisina" makes me feel like I'm listening to "Us And Them!" It has a feel to it, very emotional. Take care.
Exactly!! is like Us And Them, but without Waters's influence. I never understood why PF didn't make more albums in the 80's and 90's. I know Gilmour is not a prolific songwriter, but one or two more LP's could been posible!!

Big surprise. I'm enjoying it too... Look what PF can do when Waters is not trying to create this "obscure" atmosphere. PF can sound sweet and beautiful.

RE: Defense Case 2- Off the Ground
Is the sweetest album that Paul has made?

I've heard the "singles" and it seems... regular to me. Anyway, I don't expect something great.

"Rock Show" shows his real potential in WOA, the same for "Magneto and titanium man", "Letting Go"... Venus & Mars has seven or eight great songs but when I listen WOA I can't avoid the idea of why did Paul made V&M so... soft (referring about the sound, not the quality)
I completely agree about this. I've always felt that the transition into Rock Show from the Venus and Mars intro should have been so much harder. The guitars sound weak and muddy going into the song. As a result, I prefer the just released Old Version, and certainly the WOA version.
I agree. Besides, Paul's voice sounds behind the instrumentation and I really can't understand why. In WOA his voice rules the whole song, and that's the reason of why I love the live version. The main "problem" is in the drums. It sounds a little "saturated".
I never liked Paul's production of 'Venus and Mars'. Overly dense and muddled. I wonder what difference Paul' s albums in the 70s (except for Back to the Egg) would have sounded like if he had a different producer.
Back To The Egg has the best sound production of any Wings's album. BOTR has a "primitive" production but it sounds great, is the sound the album needed. V&M... agree with you. ATSOS... good sound but too pop. LT has a good keyboards work but drums doesn't exist, extremely soft. Definitely, the sound in Wings was the only thing it wasn't perfect. Ideal sound for Wings = Little River Band's sound, IMO.

I have always considered the title of SOS to be "Wings at the Speed of Sound", but in the new deluxe version it is called "At the Speed of Sound" throughout the book. I guess its the latter or somebody made a big mistake in the production of the book. Thoughts?
I guess it was Paul's intention, and I don't like it at all. As I said before, I think SOS was a mistake (Paul gave a lot of space to his band, and the result is a lot of not-great songs), but is a Wings album and it deserves to be called as 'Wings At...', IMO.

RE: Paul's Bass Playing
My favorite bass player, by far. Second place for Chris Squire, and finally, John Deacon. Come Together's bass line is the 70% of the song. Think in that song without his amazing bass... it becomes a regular song. Is curious, most of his best bass lines are from songs written by another artists... I mean Come Together, Something, Hey Bulldog, Time To Hide, Don't Let Me Down, Medicine Jar, Spirits of Ancient Egypt, and course a lot of his own songs... Silly Love Songs, Mrs. Vanderbilt, Let Me Roll It..

I've heard V&M reedition. I think is great, with a better sound than the original record. Specially Rock Show... A wonderful version of Let's Love, great work on Soily... definitely, V&M looks more attractive now!!
I've only listened to the remastered V&M once, but I agree. I think the sound is probably as good as it can get, though the backing vocals still sound a little muddy in places to my ears. I like Let's Love a lot -- never much cared for the Peggy Lee version, so I wish Paul had made a proper record of it.
Let's Love sounds like a demo, in the middle of way of become in an "official" track, but it sound beautiful. Paul and his voice makes wonderful any balad.

Can't afford both, most likely I'll get Wings at The Speed of Sound..
I heard SOS reedition too and is not brilliant. It has interesting things, like Beware My Love with Bonham in drums, an "emotive" version of Silly Love Songs and Paul's version of Must Do Something About it, but nothing compares with V&M reedition... is the best reedition I've ever heard.

When it comes to Paul and live vs studio versions, it's almost without fail that the live version has much more bite than the studio counterpart - the only real exceptions seems to be when the band leaves Paul for the acoustic part of the show (those songs seem to be as tender as the original studio versions)
Exactly. Maybe because we think that Paul could made a harder rock in the mid seventies, and WOA is the proof that it was possible. This is why I can understand the direction that Paul gave to At The Speed Of Sound.

RE: Did Paul's Voice Really Change?
Paul was in Argentina in 2010. Last time he was here. His voice was a little...rough, didn't sound nice. I think Paul learnt to control his limitations. He can't sing "Jet" as he used to sing it in the 70's, but he sang it in that way when he was here. He has a great band and the sound is so good that you can forget his voice for a while, but when he tries to reach the higher tones of his best songs... here comes the problem. His band is actually more relevant in the voice part. When he plays Helter Skelter, the band sing louder than Paul. That's conscience.

My five favorites: 1. Somebody who cares 2. One of these days 3. Coming Up (although studio version is not my favorite) 4. Distractions 5. Figure of eight 6. Footprints 7. Wanderlust 8. No more lonely nights 9. We got married 10. Only love remains
Have to say your choice would mirror mine almost completely. Somebody who cares does not get anywhere near the plays that it should.
Somebody who cares is one of the first songs I heard from him and now, despite i know all his discography, i still believe is one of his best songs. Maybe the lyrics are ridiculous, but the melody and specially the way he sings really delights me. By the way, i said "my five favorites" and i made a list of ten. Paul is so big for a five songs list

I'm really enjoying Flaming Pie
Everybody does it I love many albums Paul made, but FP is different, it has another meaning to me. I can perceive pain in his music, I see a man who's trying to find the courage and strength to walk his new way, a way without Linda. Those kind of things are reflected in Somedays and Heaven On A Sunday
the title track and Calico Skies are both classics for starters.
And what about "The world tonight"? the lyric I go back so far, I'm in front of me is so clear!! the man feels nostalgic!! And we have, in Flaming Pie, the lyric I'm the man of the flaming pie?... he's feeling a Beatle again!! sadness (for Linda) and happiness (for recover his best performance) in equal parts!
